[TRAILHEAD] Transformers ARG?

Sorry if there's a thread going already... I didn't see one.

A link from the trailer that went up today:

http://www.therealeffingdeal.com/

This thread has pictures (where the link came from, possible code, etc...):

interesting, though it seems a little late for an ARG based on the second transformers movie, i'm definitely looking into this.

the code, as evidenced on the tfw2005.com forums, doesn't appear to be related to the login information on the site found - instead, when decoded, it is used to unlock content in the "battle for the allspark" online game.

what i'm more curious about is this site that was found - it seems like there's more that we need, possibly for the login, but if everything from the trailer has been found already, then i suppose we just wait?

it could be a squatter... it's not an anonymous registration, so it may be that someone caught the url and nabbed it right quick. Dunno

the registration info dates back to may 9th 2008, and was last updated in early march of this year, so this definitely was not a last minute thing.

also, i did some digging on the name "matthew cohan", and imdb.com lists him with some work on previous films by michael bay and was also a producer on some other of bay's films, his most recent being the 2007 transformers movie. however, imdb.com does not list him in the credits of the transformers 2 movie page.

I'd think that if the producers didn't have control of the domain in question, they'd never include it in a trailer.

The odd thing is I JUST saw a commercial for transformers 2, and was like "hmm i wonder if anything is on the internetz arg related".
Lo and behold I saw this thread. LOL.

Message I get for a bad password is this:

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

Credentials? I don't remember that. But I don't exactly go to password sites all the time, either.

Whatever. Where there's a username/password, there's always a way in.
Perhaps we'll be seeing that way in sometime in the near future.

Well - it's definitely asking for a username AND password. There are a LOT of glyphs in the trailer, but so far they all seem related to the online game. And they all seem to translate into numbers.

Anyone catch anything in the rest of the trailer?

God damn, I saw this trailer in a movie theater twice and I didn't see that.

It appears at 1:09 in the trailer on Yahoo, which is direct linked from the movie site, so it's a real thing:

Well, it has happened before - a url that no one thought to register snapped up by a squatter. Just sayin'...

The login is a standard secure login - IF it's IG, I'd assume the site isn't ready yet as typically that's what one might do - lock down the entire site with a secure login. I'm not sold the login is part of the campaign.

If it's not a studio sanctioned site, it would be really freakin' stupid of Paramount to not secure the domain and make it free game to a squatter.

Yes, Nighthawk it would... anyhow, with the connection of the registrant's name to all this, I'm less inclined to think it's a squatter. I still think it's just not ready yet though, not a password to determine

Every trailer I've found online has it, but I can't find any trailers that were "leaked" from the day prior to official release. So I'm not sure myself whether it was visible in the theater version I saw.

I'm hoping it wasn't there, 'cause if it was I couldn't live with myself for missing it.

a commenter on this blog mentioned he got a hold of matthew cohan, and here's what was said:

I sent Matthew Cohan, the regstrar of the site and a producer on the film a message on facebook. His reply stated that there would be much to come from that site soon. The way I read it was that "therealeffingdeal.com" is not entirely live yet.

(edited due to my confusion and later realization Laughing )

i was reading up on more about this site and i came across the "shoot for the edit forums" (which is the official michael bay forum, apparently) and there was a discussion going on about this site. what i found very interesting was what one poster posted:

thenaturalist wrote:
Hi, i decided to post because no one else seems to have done what i have done.
Last friday I was trying to work out the username/password for the site but no luck. seems only one guy on here has had a quick look.

I use firefox as the web browser so i decided to click on tools/pageinfo to see if i could find some hidden info on the site.
i looked at cookies and there was a link to unfiction.com.
i went there and it was about Alternate Reality Gaming. i had no idea what that was so i went to the quick start guide. anyway it was obviouse this was an ARG site.
one of the teqniques with these sort of games is to send emails to the certain characters. so thats what i did. because i couldnt figure out the login details i thought there was no harm. i knew leo spitz ran the site. he must have an email address at that site. i wont tell you what it is, you can figure it out for yourself.

here's what i got back:
"Thanks for writing to the official e-mail of Leo Ponce de Leon Spitz (TM)! If you are a dude, you rock, bro. If you are a Real Effin' Lady, please leave your digits and some pics for the Spitz. If youare the media, e-mail my agent, Sharkatron3000."

so far so good. but no login details. but i did get another address for this mysteriouse Sharkatron3000.

so i emailed him and here's what i got:
"Can't reply right now. I'm hunting down the latest on the Mission City conspiracy and/or photoshopping kittens."

sort of weird. well thats where i have gotten up to, im not to sure what to do next. ive tried searching the web for kittens and mission city etc. but nowhere seems to have any more clues.

hope you guys can help me work it out. maybe we have to wait a little longer for the login details to use these clues. not sure.

chris

-snip-

EDIT - apparently i WAS confused - leo spitz is a character from the new film (ramon rodriguez is playing him), and he's the one we see in that picture (he's wearing the jacket with the website on it, with his back to us). what eludes me, though, is that the poster at the SFTE forums doesn't really explain how he found info such as email and all that. if he did, it couldn't have come from here...

EDIT x2 - okay, i figured it out and it was so obvious (i blame lack of sleep Razz ) - the poster at SFTE used leo's name in combination with the website's address to produce the email - at least things are moving along now!
