Stephen Colbert Puzzle Trail

Last night on the Colbert Report (5/4/09), JJ Abrams was a guest star, and Stephen claimed he hid a handful of clues that might reveal where and when he'll be visiting the Persian Gulf.

The Colbert Nation is discussing the codes here.
http://forum.colbertnation.com/tcr/board/message?board.id=TCR&thread.id=7817

Who knows what it reveals (if it reveals anything at all).

A few of the posters have assumed the clues spell out KUWAIT, but I'm not 100% sold on the logic (edited to unspoil since the logic depended on six strings, and a seventh was discovered)

Update on the status of the puzzles:

There are now 7 number/letter strings (courtesy of Worley3000)
Quote:
346X (Opening credits)
361K (In the film strip, when Colbert introduces the segment Jameel)
283H (Audience member's shirt)
433U (Graphics on JJ Abrams cup)
264V in elvish script (back of Colbert's card) @DrMeowMix for the language catch
122E (highlighted on the books on the bookshelf behind JJ Abrams lvtcr)
171M (at the very end of the credits in the "Spartina" logo lvtcr)

Based on Colbert's comment "from A to T" at the end of the show, doing a ROT7 on those letters spells out "COLBERT" if you order the letters as VHEUXKM. (Going backwards, A and T are 7 letters apart)

In addition, visiting Colbert's DonorsChoose.org site has the following cipher text: AJX PVDYZ XV XMMOV QMZE CMPMIM

Hovering over the cipher reads "Email your answer to abraaaaaaaamsSPLATgmail.com"

very enticing...

to continue, the order of numbers given the "COLBERT" is a clue to the order, would be:
Code:
264 V
283 H
122 E
433 U
346 X
361 K
171 M

noted at colbertnation, 122 appears on the third line left-right, and upwards to the first line; 433 also appears on the fourth line left-right, and down. Lines 4-6 read the same mirrored across topleft/bottomright

So there seems to be something to the order of these numbers.
Only 1,2,3,4,6,7,8 appear

As for the cipher, I've tried vigenere analysis and substitution tools, but nothing pops out making any sense. Confused

Steeepheeennn!

God damn it would take Stephen Colbert to make me crack down on a puzzle trail.

They're purporting that the cipher reads "Am I at Dubai 3/3 Find out 7/1" but I think there's a flaw in the methodology (something about adding 7 arbitarily to the 1s in the code.)

The non-repeated numbers in the code are 64, 83, 171.... that makes a nice tidy 7-digit number, but I have no idea what to do with it.

On that same thimble, though, this is Colbert and he may very well be messing with you. If so, Go Stephen!

I'm just glad to have Stephen messing with my head in a way that's so...personal. <3
