"Memory Book" for Tyler

Tresbien came up with a great idea in chat yesterday - creating a "memory book" for Tyler - stories about his dad from those of us who knew him, played his games, read his books... anything that can help Tyler learn about his dad, taken from him so early in his life.

So, this is a call for submissions to the Memory Book: Photos, impressions, memories... things you would show or tell Tyler to explain to him WHO his dad was - what he meant to you, the things he said or did that impressed or moved you. Pictures of appearances or personal encounters.

Ineffabelle, who is an experienced and gifted scrapbooker, is going to compile the submissions using Scrapblog, and once finished, we'll have the book professionally printed and sent to Marianne and Tyler.

To send in submissions for inclusion in the book: Please email text file attachments and digital images (pngs, jpegs, or gifs) to theineffabelleSPLATgmail.com, with the subject "Dave Memories".

Once completed, depending on the number of pages, the cost to print the book will be about $40-50, so if you would also like to contribute to the printing fund, please PM me (celina63) here at Unfiction and I'll give you my PayPal account information. All proceeds will go to the printing of the book, and any extra will go into Tyler's college fund.

I will be there sunday night {as well as monday} so the Mask of Knowledge will be there. Should I be bringing anything else?

I don't come here as often as I used to. So it took quite a while for me to hear about Dave's illness. Some time later, he was getting better. Now ... this.
Dave's work, his stories and his puzzles were among the most memorable, exciting and inspiring experiences I had during my time down the rabbit hole.
I could have taken the time to contribute to the "Get well"-thread and tell him so. All that's left now is to post here.

Thank you, Dave, and goodbye.

I wish there was something I could contribute in terms of content, but since I can't I'll do the next best thing: once the "digital" version of the scrapbook is complete, Darklight will cover the cost of printing the hardcopy so it can be properly presented to the family.

So if you're going to make monetary contributions, send them to Tyler. We got the book covered.

Thank you Dave for the worlds you created. For the genre I love. For all the memories.

Just an update - if you're going to submit a Memory, please do so before Friday, May 8th 2009, so Ineffabelle can have time to put everything together and have it completed in a timely fashion.

Thanks so much to Nighthawk and DLI Media for this generous offer!

Dave inspired many and will continue to inspire for a long time coming. Dave, keep on chasing that wish. I know we will.

My condolences and prayers to his family.

Oh gosh. I don't know what to say or how to say it. My condolences to his family. Although I never had the chance to play his games, I greatly enjoyed the intelligence, fun, and inspiration of his appearances at ARGfest in San Francisco and on the netcast as well as his overall influence on the genre.

Whenever I experience a loss I celebrate the remarkable beauty of that person's life by climbing to the top of the nearest mountain, or sailing out into the closest ocean, and leaving a remembrance of them in a place as momentous as the impact they've left on this world.

I didn't know Dave, but I know the legacy he leaves is a thing of remarkable beauty, and part of the glue that holds together a community which means the world to me. So on behalf of that community I'll take the pages of this thread, your expressions of love, and fold them into cranes that I'll set free into the Pacific this Monday. I urge anyone else world-round to do the same. Let him sail all the skies and seas.

Perhaps copies of the book, or a variation thereof, could also be made available for order? I imagine there are others that would like to remember Dave as well, and perhaps the price could be made such that proceeds beyond the printing cost could go toward Tyler's education fund.

Also remember, you can honor Dave by helping others also suffering from leukemia:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Once we get the first run dealt with, I'll be more than happy to make arrangements for that and anyone who may be interested.
