[trailhead] Mr Kat is Dead Got this email during the day. I don't have time to follow up on this now but there might be someone else who wants to
"While the subject line is not technically correct it will be very soon and there is nothing I can or you do about it. The reason you have this email is because I understand that you helped a private investigator recently in locating a missing person. The case is now sadly vanishing from the public eye, history is being rewritten by the numbered.
The past may give clues to the motives your friend will need your help again. The veil is being drawn.
My time is short, people are watching me. They are in for a surprise.
The attached file is encrypted and contains the past and the beginnings of my trail.
I do not exist in a vacuum there are others working with me, you may receive more emails from this address. We are: The Group aka C.O.P.S. Another member (he is an Issac Asimov fan) came up with this acronym we decided to keep it purely because of the irony that it invokes.
Do not bother replying to this email I only use it for sending.
I wish you luck, I do not have much time. Goodbye.
Sun."
Att. is a text file with this inside:
"Title: 2.1891
"Two seconds in the past was once two seconds in the future" - Serca ye Deke
Djqs Mlqqiadt Vicsif
41 Khnty Cofqig: Woq tepq o thqt?
IwccEapQlxchm eacspwhglc: Ulp ra?
31pqfnTbolh 1922 pulouq: Brfqhuo qupq?

Good luck Might check back in a while.

Overview of Missing Wallace P.I. sequel

HI! That P.I. we had a super time helping was Wallace who's updated his blog today: http://missingwallace.blogspot.com/
He and his equally trusty and ill tempered ass'nt Louise are also reading this: http://foilheadwhy.blogspot.com/
Addn'l Resources and IG sites: Foremost is the Mr. Kat Is Dead Wiki
Original Missing Wallace site: http://www.missingwallace.net/
Louise Dram's file sharing (accn't MWLD=Am Wild ): http://www.4shared.com/dir/bkRF7U8T/sharing.html
Original Missing Wallace Wiki : http://missingwallace.wikispaces.com/
The final email in Wallace's last case explains the mentioned forgetfulness & sets the stage for this new, unrelated one:
A contact in the first case wrote:
Well it would appear that Wallace has survived the end of the world quite surprising really considering what he went through.Wallace's mistake with the transmitter not only saved your world it has also changed it again with the huge energy release. This change is at the quantum level. I do not know what effects this will cause, Oh and the energy also went into the past, who knows what damage it will do there
ETA: After the first F.P. Sun email (fpsunSPLAT hotmail.co.uk) our new ctc, Roxie Underhil , mailed that he was deceased.

Hi Zobot257, Missing Wallace P.I. was an ARG. The links I just posted are the IG sites to it's sequel just beginning. OK?

Hi ReygaPrax, this looks fresh start 'tho here's the Missing Wallace Wiki for background & b/c I'm a fangirl the Mr. Kat info
@ distilled. If the file header "2.1891" means February 1891, the Whitechapel murders (JacktheRipper) took place then.

If you use "jacktheripper" as a key in a Keyed Caesar with a shift of 0, the first line of the attached file ("Djqs Mlqqiadt Vicsif") decodes to "Last Possible Victim."
Think I'll follow this. It seems interesting. I'll have to read up on the previous ARG.

Thanks for the info :]
Well spotted on the date in the file header.
@Arveza - Great work with the Keyed Caesar. Had spent hours fiddling around with that message :]
Last Possible Victim? I was assuming that was the last possible Ripper victim but have attempted all 5 "canon" victims as well as 14 generally accepted possible victims.
Anybody having any luck?

could "Two seconds in the past was once two seconds in the future" be a decrypt clue? If it was encrypt two points one way and then two the other? I don't know anything about encryption/decryption but this strikes me as oddly important since it was the only plaintext amid a file of encrypted text...

I am inclined to agree. Although I am no cryptogram cracker, its definitely suspicious.
Gah. For better or for worse it looks like I'm in on this one.
Something to do to keep my mind alive at work, anyway. Let me go over what links have been given from the last game so I know somethig about what's going on. Is there a public rabbit hole for this one so far or should we work on decoding the rest of that message? O am good either way...

Can't find any record of the quote through a Google search but am convinced the name "Serca ye Deke" is a fabrication.
Have been playing around with various decryption methods on various lines of the text but so far to no avail. Have even gotten to the point of using the good old-fashioned method of manually trying to crack the substitutions. Did come up with something for the 4th line through that method but hestitant to share it at the moment for fear of muddying the waters.
In short I think I've gotten a little close to it. Will be back in a few hours with a fresh pair of eyes.

Basically this has already been discovered, but Serca ye Deke is an anagram: for "Keyed Caeser". Which btw is misspelled with only one "a". That's all I've got for now.

o (encrypted) = a (plaintext)
Assuming the capitalised encrypted text corresponds to capitalised plaintext (as the only 1 letter words in English are I and a).
However, last possible victim doesn't seem to be a clue to the key, as I couldn't find ANY possible victims starting with O.
Any suggestions?

I have been treating "Last Possible Victim" as the clue to the next keyword needed for the next Keyed Caesar Cipher in which case it wouldn't have to begin with O.
