There was a small icon in the middle of the page, where the mouse picture is on the other pages.

EDIT: Sorry, just realized I didn't mention that the link takes you to a page with the mouse on it. It's a dead end.

I just found this: King Solomon states in Ecclesiastes 4:12: "A three-ply cord is not easily severed."

we go this way / & this way / & this way / & this way / & this way \ & this way again / &, did you guess? this way /

(The backslash was missing.)

I googled "the man in the village with the weather balloon" and got some references to the television show "The Prisoner", which is said to be an influence for "Lost". Not sure if this is significant.

The wikipedia articles adjacent to "naegele's rule" are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naefels_GL
(about a town in switzerland)
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naegele_springsnail
(about a mollusc)

Good. A lot of the answers seem to be numerical. And I bet this one is The Prisoner, a/k/a Number 6, the character who was held captive in The Village.

And just to follow up on that, looking at the full clue, if one thing stands between the answer and #6, then the answer would be 4 or 8.

I wrote the above, but now I think we're probably supposed to be reducing Nagele's Rule to a number and using the number next door.

If Tisha HaYamim is 9 days, the answer could be 6 or 12.

So if there's one thing in our way from three, we must be 1 or 5.
