Wild Goose Chases

Now that I've had time to cool off a bit, in retrospect, last night was kind of funny.

My mind was dead set on us having to provide the exact location of the missing money... a physical location.

Ok, so there I am at exactly 9:00 p.m. with paper and pen ready to take down that clue. Good thing I was recording it because Derek was talking so darn fast at first I thought it was some undiscovered language he was using and that would be the Ultimate Solve.

Anyways, after rewinding and playing the tape three times to actually get the clue, I rush back to the computer and try to make sense of it -- now remember, I'm sitting there trying to make a word or words out of all the clues that would conclude where the money was, but try as I might I couldn't do it, and by the time I realized which end was up it was too late.

I found myself doing a damn good impression of Silas: "That damn monkey boy! Monkey, monkey, monkey boy!"

Yep. Real funny.

Hey Timmy D - check out the "final clue answer" thread. A couple posters have given details on how the phone number was determined.

I figured it out because I knew we needed a way to contact the show, and when I counted the letters (after changing "eye" to "i") it was the right amount for a phone #.

I was all set to go UNTIL my 2 year old started pitching a hissy and his father was nowhere to be seen(naturally), so the only time I left the room to run the child out of my hair and to the living room the darn thing played! Fortunatly I was taping it but I never realized I missed it until I was into the second quarter of the game and still no clue, so I rewound and BINGO. I was sooo torked that I spent all this time playing the game and watching everything so closely that I missed exactly what I was waiting for the past 2 months for

I thought I knew it was going to be a phone number but when I heard Derek rattling off all those numbers I lost sight of what I was doing. So, the first time I listen to it I hear 5th place - 1st, 2nd - 1st, 4th - 7th etc. Like he's telling us to rearrange the whole clue word (take the 5th clue and move it to the first position and so on and so on) After I do all that, I start writing them down in the order I thought he gave and the first two came up "Morse Code Underwear" so I was thinking they were telling me to read the "morse code, under where..." and I got so excited that I thought I was on the right track, but when I figured out it was way off, it was too late. After I calmed my butt down and listened to it again... a couple times... I figured it out, but knew deep down that I'd wasted waaaaaaaay too much time. ack.

OK, so my first time out at this ARG stuff. Fun and frustrating. A little disappointing in the end considering all the time spent analyzing every little word, number, letter, etc when, really, you didn't even have to watch the flipping show to win the mil. Oh well. I got to use my brain. A little better than, say, Blue's Clues I think.

That is hilarious ... because initially I was heading that way, too.
Until I saw something like Orange Peter Pan Underwear and then I thought You got to be kidding me and tried finding a word within all the words and then that didn't make a bit of sense, and then finally EUREKA but I knew it was way too late. Heck, after the initial screw up I knew I had blown it!
Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted

If you take the first letters of all the clues and add 3 more letters - JAP (as in James A. Prufrock) an anagram spells "LEFT W JOB GAS PUMP". Since the show started and ended at Job's (Mary left the Bible there, right?) I was sure that the final clue was going to be the initials J.A.P. I thought they'd use the IRS number they'd already given us repeatedly.

Personally I think this is more clever than their phone number since it actually answers the "where's the money" question.

Yes, after I realized it was a phone number I wanted to hit myself ... with a brick or s'thing.

My mistake was being narrow-minded, because I had convinced myself that we needed to name the location of the money, and I let my guard down.

I had thought that we would use Jim's number because of the password opening up -what a day before? And even after screwing around with those letters after the final clue was given I still didn't want to let go of the location idea. Yep, I'm a bit tenacious at times.

Lesson learned!
