sifaka-- What can i say. From ricotta cake to stealth agent in three posts?
VERY IMPRESSIVE!

To any players just cruising by, check back. Extensive back story, $$$ spent on exhibition(s) (was there one before LA?). Looks like a good long ride.
Hmmmmm. Someone partially erased the tape and put it back.
Why? No freaking clue ATM, IMS.
People with better audio equipment than mine (and i don't mean just the computers'), please have a look see if anythings hidden. Not much existed in 1986.

Leaves us with room 427R on the Rygerfjord.
Don't you usually bring a souvenir note back from a trip, rather than prepare a $2.80 one to take?

Thanks for posting the picture. I've sent a copy to Fritz so he can include it on his blog. I'm wondering if there's any hidden under all those labels. It'd be great if you could look without ruining anything.

I had already checked that. There's nothing and I also unscrewed the cassette but there wasn't anything hidden inside either.

New post from Fritz on rootsofatree.com, telling us he needs to settle down elsewhere, he'll keep us updated and will get back to us in a month. Looks like we'll have to wait some more. Confused

Arcas, I'm quite sure that the keywords and content tags are the same as in the previous version.

Hello osofine! The Old Children's Books site and the donkey book collector are indeed strange, but "The Uninvited Donkey" is also available on Amazon . So it's probably just a coincidence. BTW. The Tammen is explained further down the page, it's the name of the publisher/author of another donkey book: "A collection of sixty-four cute, curious and interesting burro pictures." Laughing

I can only think of two things.

"What has 24 wheels and flies?"

 Peter Harbeson

Yeah I'm going to have to agree with ArchDuke here. The Peter Harbeson site feels very different from everything else. I dug a little deeper and discovered that Peter Harbeson is some kind of programmer for a web browser for phones. That's why a lot of the keywords on the simplify site are phone oriented such as nokia and iphone.
If anyone wants to check it out, here's his twitter and posts from his blog.

But then why did he have the Linian Studies related keywords before? Add that to our growing list of questions.

Re: Peter Harbeson

Peter Harbeson is a real person with a real job, and some interesting hobbies, as well as a few different sites (domains, blogs, etc.).

In game, he is friends with "Rand"/"Randy"/"Randall Iriquois Podes", who sent him information while on his trip to the Antarctic.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://thisisrand.wordpress.com/2009/04/25/exploration/ leads to

Also on Peter's site is this:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://www.peterharbeson.com/byronton/index.html
There are repeated referecences to The Ship, "Striver" - I know that I have come across that name on another one of related sites, but I cannot seem to find it again... has anyone else noticed this name before??

Also, in the interest of "Simplify, Simplify",

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I have also accessed this directory
http://www.peterharbeson.com/images/ (I downloaded all of the images here in case the directory gets locked... I haven't had a chance to look though all of them yet. Most seem to be for the above "Newspaper" page", but not all...)

Peter also maintains a site:

Looking at the keywords, I found two, dated the same day:

Complex

Complexity's fun for complexity's sake;
complexity's often quite easy to fake.
Just take something nobody seems to be using,
and make it more roundabout, odd, or confusing,
then hand it right back, and what happens nex
if nobody gets the idea -- it's complex!

AND

Simple

Simple is not very simple, you see;
simple for you is not simple for me.
Win a race? Simple, you just need some "fast".
Simple is small, but connected to vast.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A clue to the way he thinks? Has anyone written to him? If not, I will compose something ASAP (RL is a bit hectic at the moment)... any input, please PM me! I think an inquiry as to his knowledge regarding Rand and DP could maybe yield some information.

Oh, and yes, I did realize after I posted that that "Donkey Book" is real, as is likely the page. Embarassed Still, it is a very odd page! I wish it were in-game! Laughing (Oh, and I did read the description of "The Tammen" further down the page, but that only made me think more that it was important... as in, something was found in that book and led to "someone" scooping up all the other donkey books they could get a hold of. Alas, I do think it is a dead end.)

I hope that this information helps those of us interested in this whole thing! I wish I had more time to devote to all of this right now, as it really is interesting! I am especially fascinated by thisisrand's blog...

Lets please keep each other in the loop! Smile

Society for Linian Studies has been updated with the Norene Z Byrnes online exhibit.

ETA* I sent an email to Lyman Emery and attached a small snipet of Norene's tape.

Mr. Emery,

I just viewed your online exhibit about Norene Z. Byrnes. I think there's something you need to hear. I've attached a short selection for your review. Maybe it will shed a new light on some of your facts.

Ms. Olsen,
I remember your name from the list of research applicants. I must admit, my first instinct was to delete your message. But I didn't. My curiosity won out.

Where did you find this? If the date is correct, this was recorded just two days before Norene's death. Is there any more? Does she make any mention of me? This is a most incredible find. The voice is indeed hers, though strained.

Please give me any information you can.

Lyman Emery
Director
The Society for Linian Studies

Any ideas what to do next? I'm a little perplexed at Fritz's departure. Why a month?

enaxor- no clue of what to do. Do you get the feeling Lyman would be sympathetic to our cause, or Daniels?

Fritz posted twice yesterday, one mentions the month lay off. Looks like he's still in touch.

Kudos for thinking of contacting Lyman, enaxor! I remember suggesting to Fritz to show what we found to Lyman but he didn't react and I simply forgot it. I can't see any harm coming from sending Norene's message to Lyman. After all she talks directly to him on the tape, so she wanted him to hear it:

... Lyman, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you more about what I've been doing. Sorry I kept you in the dark, sorry I left without saying good-bye. It was for your own safety, I assure you...

You may still get the research assistant position. Smile

I don't know about the others, but I haven't. I've never encountered a RL person in an ARG before and to me it sort of feels wrong to bother him. I'm following him on Twitter but I haven't discovered anything Linian-related, yet.

I sent another email to Lyman Emery, giving him a bit more information about our find. He replied with a cryptic message, suggesting there is a path Fritz and maybe us, can follow on their website. I'm including both emails below and bolding the cryptic part.

enaxor wrote:
Mr. Emery,

I was hoping you would identify the voice as Ms. Byrnes'. From the small snippet I sent you, I'm sure you've ascertained this tape was located using the notebooks Ms. Byrnes left in Vancouver. She left a very elaborate, cleverly hidden trail leading to this find. If it hadn't been for the astute observations of Mr. Sutherland, I'm afraid this small treasure might still be locked away.

Part of the prologue Ms. Bynes recorded, was a warning to the finder, a warning that pursuing this path could bring grave difficulties. You asked if she mentioned you, she did. She was concerned for your safety. It was her decision, to keep you in the dark about her research. She wanted to keep you safe.

Mr. Emery, I don't think Norene Byrnes killed herself. I believe there was good reason for her paranoia. I'm also afraid, that someone may have beaten us to this find. I have to stop for now, I'm running late for an appointment. Perhaps you should ask Mr. Sutherland for further details.

Lyman Emery wrote:
Ms. Olsen,

You must understand that being an institution in the public eye presents certain limitations. There are certain issues that we wish to avoid becoming involved in, particularly considering our recent legal troubles. Please recognize that it's not necessarily a matter of being disinterested, but one of self-preservation. If given the opportunity, the BSAI could easily obliterate our modest operation. In the grander scheme, certain rocks seem better left unturned, at least for now.

Perhaps now you can see why we were forced to terminate our relationship with Mr. Sutherland. However, were he to continue pursuing such paths – outside of the Society – there would be nothing we could do to stop him. And certainly there would be nothing to stop him from using the Society's ongoing, open-to-the-public research findings for his own pursuits.

I hope you have understood.

/research.html appears to bring up a screen titled 300 Multiple Choices. From what I've found it's telling me that /research.html is too common of a path name. Any ideas? Is this for us to use or just Fritz?
