Hey guys just kinda of caught up on this and was reading Rand's and Ben's posts. Its an interesting story and is all the more interesting how blog leads to the next.
(The first clue lead to Norene's blog,
where we found Rand and DP and their "problem",
and then Rand found Ben's knife and we got his blog).

Now one of Ben's post has the BSAI Website up and while most of it is just review what sticks me odd is the countdown "Clock". The one set to end in 2012 Shocked . Sites right here http://smythinstitute.com/.

I'm gona look more into the website and see what I can find. I also need to finish Ben's blog. I have to say this is starting to become a pretty expansive ARG.

edit: I just got done finishing Ben's blog. Pretty creepy. Look At the similarities of Rand's and Ben's posts after May 21st.

So as anyone can see Im not a big poster but I do lurk a lot.Not nearly on a par with some of the brilliant minds around here so no help with puzzles but I really enjoy the stories and how much I have learned from the games. Wanted to make sure everyone knew about the societies expanded version of the Cognomi Theory of the Antarctic Interior that is now online. Im really looking forward to tommorrows installment and was wondering what you alls thoughts were about "The Tragedy of the Vessel Scopritore ". Also its been a long time since we've heard from Rand. Do you think someone should maybe ask Dr. Emeroy about him? Ben seems to be MIA as well , wish I knew more about his families foundation. Simplify page and DP leave me totally puzzled as to how they fit in. Sorry I'm such a Troll. Embarassed Thanks

snowhite I really don't know why you are calling yourself a troll!? I wasn't aware of the installment until I read your post. Thank you! The last time I checked the site it wasn't there. Embarassed Thanks to google I found Fritz Sutherland's Twitter account. He made some tweets about reading Norene's notebook, meeting the Society and helping Lyman Emery.

Tomorrow's installment will be about Guiseppe Cognomi. Hopefully we'll get some further hints about what to look for?

I really don't know about Rand and Ben. I mailed both of them a while ago (after they vanished) but they haven't replied. I contacted Lyman Emery during Rand's first absence and he only replied that he hasn't heard of him lately.

I'm having the same problem, plus I'd like to know what DP's real name is but I've no idea where to look for him.

I mean troll as in one who skulks about (not that this is a bridge or anything) but seriously I really do lurk a LOT.
Glad I could point out the added content on the Societies site. It is so nice to actually contribute something. Very Happy
I hadnt found Fritz Sutherland's Twitter account. It gives me a couple of new things to ponder. Thank you.

When I go back and look at bens blog the final post has always seemed a little off , like Im missing his point. Am now getting the idea that it could possibly be a hint to look at his Google Earth bookmarks more closely. He has two very interesting lists linked from his posts that tell us quite a bit more about his families foundation. I only just really checked them out but now its made me want to look at the other links from there more closely.

I know we're not talking about the hairy sort that carries a club.Laughing But I think there's a great difference between lurking and trolling.

Here are Ben's place marks in relation to South Georgia, the place where Cognomi shipwrecked. What's remarkable is that South Georgia and Sturge Island are about 6.300 km apart and that the Antarctic continent lies between them. The orange markers are from "Ben's Antarctic Years", the yellow ones are place marks from his "Antarctica to Greenland" voyage.

And there's a new tweet from Fritz Sutherland:

I sent Mr. Cooper another email about the research assistant postition...

Dear Mr. Cooper,

I know it's only been a couple of weeks since posting about the Research Assistant position on the Linian Society Facebook account, but I'm curious if you are any closer to making a decision on filling the position. Please let me know if there is anything more you need from me, to help make your decision easier. I look forward to hearing from you.

Ms. Olsen,
Our Los Angeles exhibit comes down next Sunday, August 16th. The following Monday, I will be sending the trial assignment.

For the time being, I would recommend getting acquainted with the information on our website, particularly the online exhibits. A new feature on Candrian color mnemonics will be posted tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience during this process.

There's also been several more tweets from Fritz about a new discovery up in Vancouver BC.

Hi, The sites for this are beautifully produced, just out of interest they seem to have been registered nearly 12 months apart?

Am assuming the Linian thing is a creation for the game as the only Google results are for the sites mentioned already, but does a museum exhibit seem like a massive investment for a grass roots game? If so does this point to somthing bigger, maybe the upcoming 2012 film?

Apologies if this post would have been better placed elsewhere, still new to posting...........

Linina Society's website has been updated with a comment about the discovery and aquisiton of two NZB notebooks.

Quote:
8.09.09 - Norene Z. Byrnes notebooks uncovered
The Society is pleased to announce the discovery of 2 previously unexamined notebooks by the late Norene Z. Byrnes, the preeminent Linian Scholar of the 20th century. The notebooks were found at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where Norene spent some time near the end of her life. As of yet, it is difficult to predict how this exciting discovery may impact the field, but as we examine the notebooks, we'll be sure to keep you informed.

The exhibits link has been updated with a slideshow about Candrian Mnemonics.

Hi benjamin!
I totally agree. I don't now much about web-design, flash-programming, etc. but to me it looks as if much effort and great care for details went into this; not only the sites but the whole story-line, the blogs and the exhibit, too. I feel sorry for the PMs that there are so few of us playing along. :-/

But then again, this ARG has just begun and maybe someone looking for a new ARG will read this and join us... Wink

As for speculation about the 'purpose' of this ARG: I've been wondering about that, too, but without much success. Maybe it's more of an art-piece than a full-blown ARG? It would be interesting to learn what the rest of you think about it.

RE the clue: Since we still don't know what the solution is, I asked Fritz about footnotes in Norene's notes, but he his reply was noncommittal:

Somthing else that remains unexplored as yet is the fact that Lyman Emery is supposed to give a lecture at the exhibition, would anybody be available to attend? Sorry i'm in the UK Sad Am guessing there maybe a Q & A at the end? Although not sure what the call to action is on this?

Also this exhibit has been running for nearly 6 months, seems strange that if it is an ARG they haven't been more aggressive in trying to capture an audience, I think the "art piece" description is more fitting, looking at the other type of things that are on show at the Panorama.

Anyhoo i applied for the Remote research assistant role, hoping this will turn into somthing truly great!!

I haven't seen that. When is it scheduled? The one I know of was on April 11th as announced on Facebook

Good luck with the application!

Oh my god,

there is SOOOO much going on here..... Reading Rands blog he mentions:

- A Merkabah which appears to be some kind of "teleportation" device (his friend DP has one too)

- A. G. Pym. Who has left an inscription in the place that Rand is. This appears to be reference to an Edgar Allan Poe story abut a stow away on an ocean voyage who's story ends as the character heads towards the South Pole: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Narrative_of_Arthur_Gordon_Pym_of_Nantucket

- M A Reynolds - This (i think) confirms the above reference as a J N Reynolds (is the mistake intentional?) is a real person believed to be the inspiration for the above character and someone who was interested in / lectured on the theory of a hollow earth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremiah_N._Reynolds

- O.Liedenbrock 1863 - A reference to the Jules Verne novel "journey to the centre of the earth" (think i spot a theme here!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Journey_to_the_Center_of_the_Earth

- E D Malone - possibly a reference to "The Lost World" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle apparently who's protagonist ED MALONE was inspired by a man called E. D. Morel (is interesting to note in almost all the cases the correct names are altered slightly - intentional?)

There is more but my brain is hurting......

back soon

Daniel Cooper sent an email with a brief explanation about the selection of a new research assistant and when the process will begin.
Daniel Cooper wrote:
Applicants,
Thank you all for your interest in the position, and thank you for your patience. I have received many inquiries as to the status of the process, so I thought I'd address them all here.
This Sunday, August 16, marks the end of our Los Angeles exhibit. This endeavor, as you might imagine, has consumed much of our resources for the past several months. With its close we will see a shift in focus to other neglected areas of our work, including the selection of a remote research assistant.

Your first assignment will be sent on Tuesday, August 18, and will concern some recently discovered notebooks of the late Norene Z. Byrnes.

Also yesterday, I wrote to Daniel after he posted the exhibit about Candrian Color Mnemonics. I asked about the number of colors used and if there was a set number of connector tube lengths. I also asked if they had determined a way to orient the devices for reading.

Daniel's reply:
Daniel Cooper wrote:
Ms. Olsen,
Thank you for your inquiry. You have asked some very insightful questions.

We have identified over 1,000 color variations in Candrian Mnemonics. There seems to be no limited color palette, which is rather daunting. However, the colors all fall under 8 basic categories: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white. It may be that the slight variations between these categories is negligible.

As for the connection lengths, these are also infinitely mutable, and seem to be more about proportion than specific lengths.

The orientation of the devices has been one of the most perplexing problems in mnemonic studies. It is still unclear how one finds their bottom or top, though Cognomi seems to have intuitively understood this.

Again, thank you for your questions. I noticed that you also applied for the research assistant position. This kind of inquiry certainly won't hurt your chances.

No problem. Smile If you're interested, there are some pictures of the lecture on SfLSs facebook album. I'd love to know what kind of people attended the event and why...

I received the same e-mail as exanor concerning the application process.

How cunning! Endearing yourself to our future employer. Wink

getting geared up to stay up late-night and watch the Persiad shower tonight. Hoping sky will be clear enough in Vancouver

spending the day once more at the Uni. L & D have basically given up on this find but I still think there's something more there

L should be Lyman but who is D? Will try & ask him later.
