I gotta say, I was disappointed. I got up this morning, and checked youtube. Behold! Entry 19 1/2! I watched it on my phone before I went to work, secure in the knowledge that after my shift I'd jokingly post on unforum about excreting building materials any time I had to go into the warehouse alone.

But alas, it was not to be. What do we get? Show and tell. Gotta be honest, the first thing I thought when he said the pills and bullet case were gone: Copout.

But then I started thinking about all the questions this raised and the possibility of Jay going back to the 'red thing' and now I feel better. PLus it was nice to watch a vid that DIDN'T scare the crap out of me.

Mobius Hornets

OK, I'm officially going to become "that guy" and post one of those comprehensive theories about the story. I normally groan at those kinds of posts, but this feeling has been eating at me. I apologize in advance if this comes across as madness.

The single biggest thing about the MH story that strikes me after watching over an hour of footage is the cyclical nature of it. My theory is that we are dealing with unreliable narrators presenting us with series of events that initially seem bizarre but are actually a strange loop: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_loop

Prior to our involvement with the MH story this happens:

Cycle 1
1. Alex is making a movie and encounters SM
2. Alex is stalked by SM
3. Alex becomes paranoid, forgetful, and films himself constantly
4. Alex becomes a recluse and manifests physical symptoms (e.g., bleeding)
5. Alex passes the tapes off to J and disappears

J involves us in his story then this happens:

Cycle 2
1. J films his investigation of Alex's tapes and encounters SM on the tapes
2. J is stalked by TTA
3. J becomes paranoid, forgetful, and films himself constantly
4. J becomes a recluse and manifests physical symptoms (e.g., coughing)
5. J is in a sense passing his tapes off to us

I theorize that when J visits the tower, the cycle will restart. In a sense, one could say we are the next subjects of the cycle because he has given us the videos.

To take it a step further, what if it isn't two distinct cycles but one unending cycle? This is known in mathematics as a Mobius strip: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%B6bius_strip

What if when J arrives at the tower, J is the SM that Alex encounters and starts the cycle over again?

We already know that Alex's house is the same one J investigates in e16 and e18, where TTA filmed him in Addition, and where SM takes him in TTA's Return. But since it's Alex house, that means its also the same place that all the earlier videos took place: the place where Alex ran around his house watching SM outside, where he sat in his room drawing, the same place he slept while SM snuck into his room.

Now J is coming to the same house in the middle of the night, banging on doors, sneaking around his rooms, stealing his stuff (which was then stolen back from J). Then Masky (whose maybe TTA) sneaks into J's room while he sleeps... we've seen this all before!

What if what we are seeing from J's POV is the same thing he saw from Alex's POV via the tapes? Remember that J is an unreliable narrator as he has not only recognized his own lack of correct memory, but we are forced to see things through his POV.

So the Mobius strip may happen like this:

1. SM stalks Alex, who becomes TTA. GOTO 2
2. TTA stalks J, who becomes SM. GOTO 1

There's something else that is a representation of a strange loop and a Mobius strip and also has connections to this story, the Oroborus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oroborus

The Oroborus, the snake eating its own tail, is an ancient concept that appears across the world. In Norse mythology, its Jormungandr, a giant serpent which encircles the Earth by biting his own tail. In Hindu mythology, its Adishesha, and forms the base for all creation to rest upon. References to both Norse and Hindu mythology have occurred in MH.

Someone earlier said something about the Operator symbol that made me think of this. They said what if the circle represented SM's face and the X represented the fact it was blank? If this is a strange loop, and using the Oroborus as a symbol for that loop, what if the X is a message to break the loop?

This has probably been covered, but it's just occured to me.

What if Slenderman can ONLY be seen through the video camera? Not by a human eye. That'd explain why everyone keeps taping themselves.

Haha, well crap. There's a few problems with it, but overall it seems like an interesting idea.

Really? I was under the impression that recent entries provided the answer that SM wipes people's memories, and so Alex was taping himself so he could keep tabs on SM. I think the implication is that Alex, when filming the movie, caught SM on it, then realized his memories were being wiped, and so started compulsively filming himself.

Perhaps that's a part of the stalking. SM wants no evidence of his existence, but the film has captured permanent proof.
