Just got this in my email:

Quote:
Hello friends!

Hope you are having a good day. I just wanted to brief you on something new that the Institute is offering. It is completely optional, per usual.

From time to time the Institute (and Matthew) may wish to send you a text message to your mobile phone. Of course, this service is free, but your standard messaging rates from your carrier and/or plan will still apply. Your number will not be shared with anyone at anytime under any circumstances.

You may quit receiving text messages at anytime by simply sending me an e-mail with the subject line "End" and I will remove you from our database.

To enable this feature, I need only two pieces of information:
(1) your ten digit cell phone number -- ex) (111)-111-1111
(2) your cell phone carrier -- ex) Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc.

If you are interested, please send me an e-mail with the subject line "Mobile", with the required information in the body of the message. I will then reply with further instructions.

This feature is only available to those in the United States. My apologies to our foreign team members.

Thanks for your time!

Technically yours,
Gabriel Lorenzen

The "(and Matthew)" was in white lettering.

And speaking of:

Quote:
nogainswoutpainThe Institute wants to stay in contact with you, as do I. Mr. Lorenzen doesn't seem to realize that he really needs to change his password.

So I guess that explains the "and Matthew" in the body of the message? Although if Lorenzen had typed and sent it, it would've had to have been intercepted between him and us for Matthew to insert that (and that's a lot of work for "and Matthew."

I guess best to assume that anything we send to Admin goes to Matthew, and that we'll be getting texts from Matthew too.

texts

Is everyone doing the text thing? I wouldn't mind it, but I don't have the unlimited texts and just don't want to get bombarded with them when I should be working or whatnot... what do you think? Will I miss out on a bunch if I don't? I assume you'd all post here, but if it's swag, it might be worth it--- I'm just contemplating and looking for suggestions. Question

I have a text plan, so I sent in my number. Got a test text message already from our buddy Gabriel. It said "This is a test of the Institute Mobile Messaging Service" They are likely sending the texts from each provider's website as it doesn't have a return phone number.

I'm doing it, but I've got unlimited text, so I'm not in the same boat as you. Don't worry though, we'll post anything we get asap, Promise.

Re: Texts

I have the 200/month plan because I'm not a teenage girl (though I feel like one inside). Since I get texts mostly from a friend in CA and my niece (who is a teenage girl), I always have some leftover.

Except that one month when I turned on Twitter feeds... Never doing that again.

Oh, and I just did a test with Our Friendly Admin, and we will not be able to reply to the texts we're sent.

Gotta write my bio...

Got my number in. Sent a text response saying it was working and an e-mail response. Got an e-mail back saying "your text response is working. thank you".

I'm with at&t and I was able to respond. Maybe the PM has at&t too?...lol

Hmmm, I have ATT too. I didn't try to reply via text though cause the number was 10101000000 something. I just assumed it couldn't be replied to. Interesting! Next time I'll try.

Update: We can respond to text messages. I'm on AT&T too. YMMV.

Gabriel just sent me an email.

Glad to see our IT guy is up to speed on text messaging. Very Happy

BTW. Did anyone say anything to Gabriel about his e-mail being hacked by matt?

Should we or shouldn't we as good researchers?

Sent in my alien abduction story last night, we'll see what they do with it. Very Happy

I'm terribly amused that the test subject bios happen to be [Name] A, [Name] B, and [Name] C. We're self-organizing, apparently! Laughing

I thought about making a mention of it, as a good little zombi- I mean test subject, but I wouldn't want to hinder Matthew's means of communication through the Institute channels.

And it does seem the A,B,C test subject link is coincidental, but it's a funny one!
