7 Doors [SOLVED!]
Talk about the meaning of the videos here.

Alright, since we have our own forum space, I've decided to start a new thread. Time to rip apart those videos!

Sorry for the double post, but here's an update for the vids. Matt updated his blog with clues on how to decode them.
Quote:
We're counting on you to help us through. We have only one hour to rescue my brother. Examine the videos carefully now. Chris is a strong believer in yin-and-yang, and I am sure that the videos reflect that. Combined, we can stop the wrongdoings of Dr. Darrell and get justice for his actions.

ETA: All right, I think I figured out the meaning of the tones. Both videos have 4 clusters of tones. Seperately, they don't make sense, but if you put them together, they make numbers in morse code. For example, the second set of tones in the 5210 vid are

----

which isn't anything in morse code but, if you combine it with the second set of tones (or in this case tone) in the 84y vid you get

----.

which is the number 9 in morse code.

All together, I think that the numbers are either 7955 or 7975. I'm not sure whether the third set of tones in the 5210 vid are dots or dashes.

Alright, I sent an email to Matt volunteering my mobile services tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to help out!

And we definitely have to combine these videos somehow. I think you may be on to something catgirl; I'll look at some of the other parts and see if I can pull out any numbers that might make sense.

Maybe the numbers for the tic-tacs are 6713? Since there's 6 in the 5210 vid, 7 in the 84y vid and 13 all together.

ETA: Link to the picture of the coins side by side.

"Journey into Amazing Caves" Seen in the calendar part of the 84y vid is a movie.

Interesting, one of the main scientists in the movie "...studies this subterranean life in hopes it may point to new drugs or antibiotics to fight human illness"

Are we sure that we're looking for 4 digit passcodes? I don't think that Matt specified what format they'd be in. 4 digits makes sense, but I just don't want to make any assumptions.

Here's what I've got so far from the 5210 video:

10 Beeps

6 Tic-tacs (or whatever they are...)

18 light flashes; this is probably morse, but I haven't been able to transcribe it yet

$1.67 in change in the following format: 1 Dollar, 2 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 2 pennies

Clock with only 3 visible in the hour position

Calendar with the 20th

33 blinks

I'll see if I can't get the lights sorted out. Do you think that the blinks are morse as well? They all seemed to me to be like they were about the same length.

EDIT: I'm probably just aurally inept, but it sounds to me like the beeps are all the same length too. Thoughts?

It's hard to tell if the lights and blinks are morse code, they go really fast. And you're right, we don't know what the pass codes will be. It feels like today is the day to take notes for tomorrow's big test. Argh, I'm stressing out.

I think you got the money wrong though, that's not a quarter dollar, it's a fifty-cent piece.

Yeah, you're right. That is a 50 cent piece; my mistake.

Well, at least we can takes notes for this test, haha. Let's just get as many ideas as we can, write them all down, and then when Gabe tells us tomorrow what the format for each pass will be, we can match that up with whatever we have. Have you already sent Matt an email?

New Protected Post

I sent Matthew my cell number to take part in tomorrow's break in and got this:
Quote:
Thanks for helping with our fight. Gabriel's instructions are posted on the blog at http://nogainswithoutpain.wordpress.com/. Input the password luchar to view the post.

It means so much to us. Now, read the instructions and focus on the videos. It's going to be intense, because, as Benjamin Franklin said, "There are no gains without pains."

The post is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Protected: Fight

Hey guys, Gabriel here to brief you on how to control the Institute's security system using your cell phone. On your cell phone, you will only be using messaging. There will be no calling involved, as the system only understands textual commands.

At approximately 3:00pm central time tomorrow, you will be receiving an e-mail from an Institute e-mail address. Follow the directions on the screen to begin controlling the doors. This is the first message the system will send you.

You must work on the doors in order. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, then 7. Each door has a short description and tells you how many digits it contains. No door uses letters.

Whenever entering a code, you must only reply to the first message the system sent you. Your phone may not permit you to reply to the other messages, as they are automatically generated by the security system and you cannot reply to them, as the system will not receive them at that address. So, whenever entering a code, reply to the first message you received. It's a small technical glitch that occurred when I was editing the program.

If your entry is correct, you should promptly receive a message stating "access granted" with the next door description. If your entry is incorrect, nothing will happen.

Continue entering codes until all doors have been opened.

When inputting codes, do not add extra text. Input only the code in the message.

Of course, using this system is free of charge (I hacked into it, duh!), but your standard cell phone messaging fees will apply.

Best of luck to you. We must rise against Dr. Darrell and make him pay for his terrible deeds. Remember, you have only one hour to input all the codes to save Chris and bring down Darrell!

And a small word about the videos: you may want to download them from Youtube using Zamar or a similar site and edit them in case some of the things move too fast for you to see.

Jeez, this is going to be a make or break moment, we can't let Chris die! Anyone with video editing skills, please work on the possible morse code stuff. I'll be looking at the other, non-moving parts of the vids.

Edit: @ironnikki Yes, of course. Smile

ETA: I found out that "Journey into Amazing Caves" came out March 2001.

Alright, and here's what I have for the 84y video:

36 blinks

Calendar with the 30th

$1.22 in change in the following format: 4 quarters, 2 dimes, 2 pennies

Clock with only 14 visible in the minutes position

31 light flashes

7 Tic-tacs

12 beeps

I'll work on the Morse thing, but no promises. I don't have any talent with video editing, but I'll see what I can do.

EDIT:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
After watching the videos and comparing the two, it sounds like for the beeping, the 5210 video is composed of all dashes, and the 84y video is composed of all dots. This supports your earlier theory, catgirl. Assuming that 5210 is first (since it's labeled "Left," and it displays the first part of the time,) I got 7976.

EDIT2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
After working through the light switches, I turned up complete gibberish. A couple of the progressions don't mean anything in Morse, and some of them translate as letters. However, a couple of them translate into numbers, so maybe we just have to ignore everything but the numbers?

Here's what I got:

5210: -/- -/. . . . -/./. - - - -/. . . (this becomes a/?/4/e/1/s)
84y: ./- . ./-/. ./. . . . . . - ./. . . . ././. . ././././. . -/- (this becomes e/d/t/i/?/5/e/s/e/e/e/u/t)

So, if we were to just extract the numbers, we would have 415. Not sure if this is right, though.

Alright guys, I need to get some sleep. I won't have access to YouTube tomorrow, because the firewall at work blocks it, but I can still get to email, uF, etc. Hope that someone is able to sort through this mess.

Here is what I got:
Matthew Tweet:

Quote:
today is the day, the time of perfect clarity. Let us hope for the best.

So today at 3 CST it will go down. I hope you all enjoy because I will be at a meeting until 3:30. I will get back asap of course. And in Matthews blog post the yin and yang/ combined thing makes it obvious what to look for as codes or passwords... right?

The clock reads 3:14 (3: and :14)
Change combined is $2.39 ($1.22 and $1.17)
12 tic tacs (6 each)
22 tones (11 each)
73 Eye blinks (33 for 5210 and 40 for 84y)
49 Floor Flashes (18 for 5210 and 31 for 84y)
Calendar dates (20th and 30th)

whine time:
all the fun stuff happens when I can't participate. I did give my cell, but I probably wont be able to check it until I'm done. I will help if possible while at meeting Smile I hope the swag is good!

This is what I got from the vids.

84y

36 blinks
30 calendar
$1.17 (4 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 2 pennies...though I can't be sure that the nickel is a nickel from the distortion)

31 flashes
7 pills
11 beeps (3, 1, 3, 4)

5210

9 beeps (2, 4, 2, 1)
6 pills
18 flashes
$1.17 (half dollar, 2 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 2 pennies)

After rechecking, I agree with you totally on 5210, but on 84y I disagree only with the change. I would go with 2 dimes, 2 pennies and 4 quarters ($1.22). Other than that I am with you. If we combined everything then we have:
20 beeps
13 pills
49 flashes
$2.39
3:14 (I don't think it matters but I think it is AM because there is no dot indicating PM)
20th and 30th
69 eye blinks

Earlier we had discussed the possibility of the lights and/or beeps being Morse code. What do you guys think about that? I think that the blinks go too fast and are all about the same length for them to be Morse code, but the other two are feasible.

I initially assumed that the beeps, blinks, and flashes were all morse code or variations of it. I find it hard to believe that the whole puzzle was simply adding the amounts together. Seems too easy.
