Just been down to try and find the SF drop - 826 Valencia, which I know well as Dave Eggers' Pirate Shop. But no joy, they were clueless. Tried other shops nearby too (including http://www.paxtongate.com/ next door, very cool) but nada. Did it actually go or not is the question...?

My friend just picked up the first MIA drop! We are now 2 for 2!
Pics to follow soon folks...
EDIT: Promised pic. You guys have already seen this capsule, just proof my friend really did snag it so no other MIA guys go looking for it. Pretty sweet, his jar was 1 of 11! There will be one left for those of you in MIA who want one, it goes live Monday, keep your eyes open!

Someone needs to go get those two in ATL. It's only 2 hours away and I'll be there this Saturday. If they are still there I'll go pick them up myself. I know a couple of people around here who would like them.
I'm about an hour from the Atlanta ones, which is just a bit too far, especially since it looks like they are both in antique stores which aren't open that late. I'll be in the city on Tuesday if they are still around I can grab one. I'm hoping one of the 7/20 ones will be Atlanta and I can get that one. I love shark week and it would be cool to have.

The 7/20 drop will definitely be in ATL. All 3 drops are happening in the same set of cities, just with different contents in each of the 3 capsules. Go get the thing Tuesday man!
EDIT: Both ATL drops are gone. Heard from a bird on Twitter.

Went back and got the SF capsule (the one that was there, then gone, then not gone - I can confirm it's definitely gone now) from Dave Eggers' pirate shop, 826 Valencia in the Mission.
Have written up the details on my blog and documented the contents on Flickr too. I don't think there's anything especially different from the other Coral Sea ones; different girlfriend and this is 3 of 11. Will compare text of cards and the like to others that are around tomorrow. Would love to see whether we can identify what type of shark it was from the teeth - that should be possible shouldn't it?

So this isn't really an ARG, right? I mean, there's no there there. You guys got the drops and shared them and that's great, and the facebook thing is cool on the webpage, but beyond that there's no real mystery to solve or fictional people to help, right?

There's a slight mystery in the sense of "why are these particular shark attacks being publicized" and there's a slight possibility Monday will change things, but you're right: this is less ARGish and more viral PR stunt.
Which doesn't detract from the experience. Just means there's less to uncover beyond the mason jars themselves.

I spent a bunch of time trying to find Jake in casualty lists for the battle at Coral Sea, but no luck. It doesn't help that a particular plane model of the time period is referred to as a "jake." Sigh.
If anyone else can bring better Google Fu to the table, have at it. I did searches for all iterations and fractions I could think of for Jake/Jacob Skydowe/Shydowe/Snydowe-Hewes and/or his family and/or his address along with other keywords regarding the Coral Sea incident.
So, I guess what I am saying is, I am not sure if he's real or not.

Man, I really wish I would have found this sooner. I'm near the Chicago drop location. I'll just have to see if another one will be here.

I'm pretty sure that the tooth in the Coral Sea set is from an Oceanic Whitetip (and from what I see of the Asbury one I reckon it's the same). Responsible for more human fatalities than all other shark species combined...apt! Though also on the red list of endangered species as vulnerable , feeling a little guilty about the tooth now.
What's the significance of the urls attached to the teeth? They just seem to direct to the main Frenzied Waters site, is it a way for them to confirm which capsules have been found?

I am thinking they must be, but I sorta wish there had been a confirmation that I actually 'checked in' with my URL or something. It was sort of a quick redirect, and then I was back at the top level.

All 11 drops have the same URL. First person to go to the URL unlocks the corresponding video that then goes live on www.frenziedwaters.com. Kinda' like the motivation to be the first to find a new drop.
The Coral Sea vid wasn't unlocked until someone entered that URL. Same was true with Asbury Park and same will be true with whatever goes live tomorrow.
See, being first does pay off...

Thanks.

Yeah, a couple of reporters got jars with their own obits in them. Got to admit, that would have freaked me out a bit.
