Six To Start's "Smokescreen" now in beta
Go getcher invite!

Six to Start posted on their blog today regarding beta invites for their new game, "Smokescreen". The game will be starting in September, but they are currently accepting requests for beta invitations so you can get a feel for the game before launch.

So go getcher invites!

If I'm not mistaken, this is the game that is supposed to teach UK teens about the dangers of sharing too much information on social networking sites. I remember reading an article about it sometime, maybe early last week.

Ah, here it is on ARGN.

I'm apparently an old fogey, because I can't for the life of me figure out how to proceed in the game for the first stage: I've tracked the Rumor Mill down to Danny, but can't figure out what to do next. It doesn't seem to let me talk to the admins or Danny, and nothing else seems clickable.

EDIT: I'm only an old fogey in that I was using IE8. Sent in a bug report (this is the beta version after all) but the game stalls at one point unless you're using another browser like Firefox.

Hi, retarded newbie here--do you just comment to ask for an invite, or what?

You send an e-mail to supportSPLATsixtostartDOTcom

Sent mine off. Hope I get a spot. It looks kinda neat.

I'm the same, stuck after tracing the rumour mill. Nothing seems to be do-able now.

I didn't have any problems finishing it. You just pretty much have to follow what they say in the chat.

That's about my only complaint so far. It's almost too on rails for my liking. Otherwise, it's alright.

It seems really buggy--it's way too slow to load. I can't get past Danny's profile because the chat window disapears. Then again I'm playing on IE. i refuse to download a whole new browser just to play a game.

Please, for the love of everything that is good in the world, get Firefox. It's better for everything. It's more secure and quicker. Just do it.

Won't that hurt an HP, though? Anyway, I got to Danny's profile with the chat thing up and there's still nothing.

Astrofig: Seems as if you're getting the same bug as notgordian. A lot of stuff on the internet anymore doesn't like IE, and for good reason. I'd really suggest an upgrade to Firefox.

True. Urgh, I just hope downloading it doesn't ACTUALLY delete all your bookmarks and things you'd downloaded before....

Edit: Looks like you can't get it anyway without buying it. Not doing that.
Edit the Second: Disregard this; I'm retarded.

Also, it's worth noting the IE bugs will be fixed in time for the official release of the game (the 3rd, I believe). Got a message back from Six to Start, and they're aware of the problem and addressing it.

Well, I'm playing on Chrome. FF is just as buggy/slow as IE for me and always has been.

I guess it's browser related then, definitely not easy to finish here.

So, I'm guessing the beta is just the first mission? I was hoping for a full play-through. Oh well, guess I don't have to wait too long.
