Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Coming Soon to a Browser Near You...

We're still firing on all cylinders to get Space Paranoids Online... well, online. But, in the meantime, check out the teaser trailer, complete with a sneak peek of new tanks and levels!

We're still working out the final programming details, but this should tide over our rabid fanbase until we have a firm release date.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Kurt Hardington Makes the "Most Generous" List

In an independently funded exposé on the biggest philanthropists in America, Encom's own Kurt Hardington ranked #87 when it comes to charitable donations for the past fiscal year. We've always known that our CEO is a giving, nurturing person, but now the rest of the world has proof. Congratulations, Mr. Hardington – you may be #87 on their list, but you're #1 on ours!

Group 7 Updates:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
QC Hiring Freeze In Effect
Wednesday, April 14th

Until further notice, we are not bringing on any new testers for our forthcoming line of products. In fact, we might be letting go of our last crop of hires sooner than expected. If you have questions as to the protocol involved with terminating an employee, please consult your manual.

Department heads: please submit all work logs, progress reports and payroll summaries to the appropriate personnel ASAP. We need to assess this initiative from every angle before moving forward (or taking an even more drastic course of action).

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Call Center Overloaded
Wednesday, April 14th

We're almost ready to announce the official release date for "Space Paranoids Online." Everybody wants the game, and they're letting us hear about it every hour of every day - our switchboard is on fire! After all, this is of one of [sic] the most popular games of all time.

Our call center has been deluged with anxious
inquiries - "When can I play Space Paranoids?" and "Why can't I play now?" and "I'm not playing Space Paranoids... Why is that?" Our consumers are the top priority here at Encom... and they want their Recognizers.

There's been a lot of talk about "Space Paranoids Online." In fact, I've been doing a lot of that talking. I understand that folks are anxious for this release - heck, so am I. But, I'm reminded of how Kevin Flynn always used to put these things in perspective. When we were developing TRON into a video game, he would face off with investors, board members and advertisers who were chomping at the bit to rush the product to the market, just to cash in quickly. "They'll get it when it's right," he shrugged.

The same rule applies today. Flynn's vision won't be compromised - I won't allow it.

Have a great weekend,

--Alan Bradley

Subject: Breakfast Treats: A Privilege, Not a Right
Monday, April 12th, 2010, 10:02am

Every Friday for the past two months, I had been bringing donuts into the office and sharing them with my co-workers in accounting. Everyone seemed to appreciate my efforts. "Thanks, Laird," they would say. "Tasty donuts? You're the best!"

But, all that changed last week. I was having one of "those days" (car wouldn't start, neighbor's dog ate my newspaper, I'm still bald, etc.), so I really didn't feel like schlepping all the way to the bakery to buy a box of confections. Sorry, but I just didn't have time. Well, by the reaction I got, you would have thought that I had run over someone with my car. "Where are the donuts, Laird?" they accused. "No donuts? Some Friday this turned out to be!"

Y'know, it was never my job to provide breakfast for you people; I was doing it as a favor. But that era has come and gone. In conclusion: next Friday, you can get your own donuts!

Wish I could say I'll miss this place... but I won't.

And did you get a load of that article on the intranet? Hardington is generous like I'm a size 4.

See y'all on the flipside,

--Silly Jilly

EDIT:

OOooh that trailer just makes me want to play it more. Evil or Very Mad

Space Paranoids Online looks kinda cheesy, but I guess it's designed that way.

Feels like vaporware to me. Sad

Yeah, I think it's a little weird how all of the updates happen on Wednesday, regardless of the timestamp on the actual updates themselves... then again if the updates were updated in real time we'd probably be one hell of a lot more active... but that isn't necessarily bad.

Yeah, but it makes a lot more sense for a long-term game. It's also easier to catch up on things when you know exactly how many updates you missed based on the number of weeks.

So, this is very off-topic but I thought it was amusing. Some of you may know about a new show opening on broadway here in New York which is all about Enron. Well, I found out about it by the giant ads in the subway a few days ago. I wonder if you can guess what caused me to do a double-take when I saw the ads?

That building is still standing here in Houston. Even though Chevron bought them out.

And I've recently put Encom on my resume; It looks good! Very Happy

You seriously put Encom on your resume?

For a mock interview only that required a resume.

For what it's worth (or if it's already been mentioned), SPO looks exactly like the stand-up cabinet featured at the SDCC Flynn's Arcade. And while the controls of the tank controlled, well, exactly like a tank (i.e. frustratingly in tight quarters, fast pace), it was a pretty solid gaming experience.

So in that respect it does indeed exist, and I'd be quite happy if SPO was a version of the SDCC game.
