Madrigal is a title, not a branch.
Ex; Fiske is Janus in blood(Has Janus genes/Talents)
but does not consider himself Janus. (If Fiske is the MiB)
The world (not to mention himself) regards him as a Madrigal.

Dan is M- type Ekat or Tomas. (Recessive genes?
Amy is a M- type Ekaterina. Why? Can you imagine any of
the other branches so... impractical-knowledge obsessive?

When two Cahills have children, their genes are randomly passed
down.

By the way, Brodrick is either Lucian or Madrigal.

I Desireth an opinion, kind ... peopleths?

I disagree on the genes issue as we're not really talking hair color, skin tone, height, and things like that - which is what genes normally control.

Instead we're really talking genealogy, which means that a child is related to who they are most directly related to - bloodlines count the most.

That's why it's so unlikely that Dan and Amy (and by extension Hope, Arthur, and Grace) are anything other than Madrigals - which is Madeleine's line.

The most intriguing idea I've seen most recently is the one say that the man in black is Gideon. If we're talking about a philosopher's stone here and Gideon completed it, it's possible that he's been keeping an eye on his progeny through the one child he had *after* his first four children proved they couldn't handle the idea of sharing the benefits of what the 39 clues brought. (I've added in a little bit of exposition there...)

The
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Serum(s) are in the Cahill's genes. (book Cool

Recessive bloodlines do exist... And when two Cahills (separate branches)
...have children... What determines what branch the kids are?

Also, I think Madeline is the founder of the Madrigal group, whose title
extends to all Cahills who join.

Again, that's more genes than genealogy. In genes two recessive traits can unite so they can manifest over the more dominant traits. In genealogy that doesn't work and would never be true for one sibling but not the other.

In genealogy it's the straightest, most dominant bloodline that wins out no matter what. As an example - each of us, four generations back, has 16 great-great-grandparents. All 16 are equal in the concept of genetic makeup, but you only bare the name of one line. It's also highly likely that four generations ago, nearly all your ancestors were still all from the same country - maybe even as specific as the same city.

From the books it looks as though Grace was a direct line Cahill, which made Hope one as well, even to the point that it was her last name the kids took - an unusual thing here in the states. Normally, if the children take their mother's last name it's either because of the father not being there or the last name is the combination of the father's and mother's last names together with a hyphen.

Your truest bloodline would be the one with the least amount of last name changes, and it never gets overruled by any of those other lines that are part of your personal genealogy.

It would appear that their own branch has been hiding (protecting?) that knowledge from them all this time.

Maybe you have to earn your place among the Madrigals rather than simply being born into it.

You right about the Madrigals.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In Book #9, Fiske tells Amy and Dan that Madrigals had to earn active status without them knowing. That's why Nellie Gomez was spying on them.

You know the funny thing? You were kind of right. Amy: Jade Necklace: Ekaterina. Dan: Bear Claw: Tomas
