New email from Tyler

Quote:
Hi,

I'm spending some time in the hospital recovering. I was out for quite a while. Of course, my employers told the doctors that it was just a simple "lab accident". There are some of the other technicians here, too. I wasn't able to take any pics yet, but I'll try again when I get out of here.

Thanks,
Tyler

So it seems we may be out of touch with Tyler while he recovers, but soon we'll get to see som pics!

Hi,

Yes, we got beat up pretty badly. It's going to take me awhile to heal, but I'll be alright. In the meantime, I checked my cellphone and somehow it snapped a picture. I've attached it.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Tyler

I've not been able to find any stegged messages, though I'm running unfamiliar programs on linux (as camouflage is windows one) so someone else might have better luck.

I don't think there is an IG reason for a steg or anything hidden in the pic. It was taken purely by accident.

This game seems to be similar to the Transition Village games in that the players do something and the game reflects on it.

The picture could be flavor and a piece of evidence, that this beast really has a mean set of huge teeth! What I can tell, the front tooth there - to be honest, I'm not exactly sure which way is the front - looks like it broke off or worn down by use. And I am not sure what this could tell you. Confused

The only thing that made me wonder about a hidden steg was the fact that he wasn't aware that a pic was taken, meaning maybe it was placed there while he was unconsious. I also don't think we're looking at teeth, I'm leaning more toward the scaly ridges that sometimes grow on certain reptilians/amphibians...

Fair point on the latter. Smile And I guess possibility on the former.

Weird idea: This species has returned from the dead. Likely by human intervention. Not quite Jurassic Park fashion...I'm talking about reanimated fossils! Hence the broken teeth.
(I don't care if that's scientifically possible, at all.)

@Abraxas At this point in the game, we're still unable to rule out any possibilities at all. The reanimation of fossils would be an interesting take on things that I'd enjoy. Smile The only thing that makes me think possibly not, or at least that it wasn't Dynimix that reanimated it, is the fact that they are studying fossil records to see if it has ever existed and that they mentioned somewhere that it was "captured" I believe, and somethng about how it usually lives underwater. Maybe they dumped chemicals into a swamp and accidentally fused several amphibians and reptiles into one big mean creature...lol who knows? Very Happy

Iinteresting the "Reanimated fossils" spec. from Abraxas and Rev.

Some days ago I found this info: the Kryostega Collinsoni is an amphibian fossil about 15 feet (4.57 meters) long found in 1986 in Antartica!!!

Kryostega map: http://www.eurekalert.org/multimedia/pub/9826.php?from=121150

And this location is near the Lake Vida
Quote:
The lake gained widespread recognition in December 2002 when a research team announced the discovery of 2,800 year old microbes preserved in ice layer core samples drilled in 1996. The microbes reanimated upon thawing, grew and reproduced.

I like your idea Abraxas.

Thanks, Jung. Smile

Oh, wow...that is two locations which are a little too close for comfort, I have to say. Shocked
Nice find!

If you look at the ARPG thread, it seems my jokes and crackpot ideas turn into real story. recently. Cool

Let's say the microbes reanimate the fossil. Could a skin grow? Hollywood-possible? Perhaps you should send those two finds to Tyler. Maybe you change the story that way. Laughing

Hi Amandel,

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I'm a bit beat up right now, but I think I'll be alright.

I have no idea what about it shows its intelligence. I didn't write that report; Dr. Jones did. I don't know where SC-289X was captured, but I'll see if I can find out. And at this point, I don't think anyone's been able to get close enough to determine its gender yet.

Tyler is replying to my email sent on Friday afternoon asking lotsa questions about the first Youtube vid. Actually....
it's clear Tyler doesn't really know much about SC so all of the later theories here remain quite valid. Only Dynimix knows Cool

ETA: mentioning with reservations that examining DNA signatures from microbes is very recent Science News

I think I'll lurk...looks interesting

Any thoughts about the possibility of this poikilotherm being a creature from a different time? Very Happy

might be "easier" to explain than reanimated fossils? Confused

OK I emailed Tyler wishing him well and asked him if he knows how the creature was discovered... I mean it didn't just walk into a science lab did it?

The "Frozen in ice" theory is nice, I read that report when I discovered the Kryostega clue but didn't put two and two together until now, nice one Jung.

The problem with frozen ice theory is that the cell architecture would be destroyed unless the amphibian had a particularly good "anti-freeze" mechanism that would work as a cryoprotectant to minimise crystalisation. The bigger problem is DNA, RNA and protein denaturation from years of being frozen (even if there was cryoprotectant).

However, I agree that it would be Hollywood-plausible. Rolling Eyes (ie they can probably come up with a good-enough explanation)

ETA: single-cell organisms can be OK with this (mainly because not all of them have to survive). Multicellular orgs are a different story.
