Kosmo, I have to ask the question: that picture of yourself that was altered and re-posted... Who had access to that? Was that sent directly to the "in game" character back then, or posted in a public place for others to see and retrieve? Who else knows about it?

I trust you understand the importance of that question... Think about it carefully.

-=O=-

This is exactly the question, which is running in my mind right now. First time I sent this picture to a character. But I can also recall, I told about this picture in another thread. I just cannot remind, whether I posted it there or not...

Because, one more time - I know, everybody will lynch me now for repeating it so many times Rolling Eyes - the PM of the ARG I've sent my pictures to (for a year or so) is completely trustful person. So here we have two possibilities:

1) Somebody really wants to compromise his PM identity. Which could be not so fine for the next games, especially due of anonymity of the level behind a curtain.
2) Our PM is kinda a freaked out with his charismatic characters. Which is really a little bit "jenseits von Gut und Böse", but after all only one part of the complex universe we have here.

I respect everybody, who leave this game offended, but I personally will try to continue, even if hyper cautiously. I will also avoid every contact with Seteney. Because there must be another channels to Junko.

Here we have the major difference between the games of our PM and this one: singledimensionality. Usually, it's full of characters, and if you've lost acces to one, you have access to another. Here we have only Seteney, and ehm... it isn't optimal. Smile

Or, people, we've missed some characters out there.

And after all, to see your own name in a closed forum is shocking anough, but not so shocking as a lawyer letter like actual LOST ARG Wink

UPDATE. I've sent to Seteney:

Quote:
"Dear Seteney.
I unfortunately cannot help you. My friends, who open-hearted wanted to save Junko are offended by your accusations. So actually, I am alone and I'm tied in my freedom of action. I alone cannot help you, but the community could. Since the community is now upset, and there's no ways to help you, as to join us with Junko.

You have your causes to mistrust us, we have our own causes to mistrust you.

I just hope we can help Junko and another sisters in another way.

So long
Alex"

I'm a little ashamed that the first thing that came to mind when reading that was Xenosaga... Man, I should really lay off of the video games, haha.

On the other hand, I feel pretty certain that the PM of this game meant no harm with his/her actions. They were seriously misguided, yes, but I think that he/she was just trying to immerse us more into his/her universe. The PM is trying to make this game different from the rest by bringing their alternate reality closer to our reality. This excites me a little bit, because I think that sets the stage for a great game.

In my gut I have to agree with you IronNikki... however I'm too new to this to really know the ins and outs yet... I'm going to definitly continue to watch, chime in occasionally... and let the big dogs sort it out.

If nothing else it's a good learning curve to be on... and the debate is really going to the heart of exactly what an 'ARG' is, should be or will become even... As a total N00b I don't really have any preconcieved notions... so I'm going to watch with interest!

And maybe scavenge the bodies on the battlefield afterwards... Wink

 Hypocrisy, anyone care for some?

Hello All,

I have been lurking here since about the second day. I don't normally indulge in ARGs but started following this thread after JJ friended a bunch of my classmates in my architecture grad class.

At the risk of sounding personal, some of the regulars here come off as extremely pedantic and whiny. I don't know all the conventions of the ARG community but for people embracing what is supposedly an emergent medium, some of you people seem to have an awful lot of orthodoxy to your thinking. Considering the the relative age of immersing transmedia, it's like people insisting in 1910 that films never evolve beyond the narrative of Edison's Kinetoscope—in short ludicrous.

Furthermore, I see a huge amount of hypocrisy being exhibited by those most critical towards the PM in this forum. All this complaining by a few about OOG and IG; claims how you as players extend "courtesy" and "respect" by never looking behind the curtain.

Well, it seems to me that the people complaining here were actually the first to make things OOG and personal by reacting to a particular character's demeanor by attacking the PM. And very interesting how certain miscreants didn't start contributing to the conversation until there was something to show animosity about.

Comments like this hardly seem in the spirit of preserving the roleplay:

I admit I'm new here, and am only trying to see if I can assist after hearing others' involvement. And what is the first thing I see when I come in? A list of DEMANDS?!?

Hate to say, sparky, but you don't tell me or anyone else around here what to do like that. We're trying to help, so get your head out of clouds, treat us like human beings offering a hand, and let's work towards a common goal.

"State my compliance?" How 'bout... NO. STATE YOUR COMPREHENSION?

So people don't play along with the artifice the PM is setting up and then you blame them when they call you out on it personally, thereby upping the ante to maintain the story? (Btw, for the two of you whom I checked, you names seem very easily obtainable by a single google search of your handles so you're not trying too hard to preserve separation between your Walter Mitty lives and your fantasy RP ones.) Laughing

I see this as the worst kind of critique: pedestrian and close-minded persons who themselves never make creative works lambasting an author at the beginning of theirs. And I can now see why a game author would avoid playing to the "nerdcore".

Many of you save a few genuinely curious and intellectual people like kosmopol need to retire from the field now and save the rest of us a whole lot of headache. In addition to your cranky behavior, the range of your cultural reference is a bit myopic for my taste. This thread was much more interesting a read before you came along with your passive aggressiveness and childlike confusion regarding one of the main purposes of fiction and art—i.e. to PROVOKE.

As an earlier poster commented, I don't see much potential for "alternate reality" in a model that has rigid boundaries and procedures. On the contrary predictability and fixed parameters are the domain of board games. Maybe that is what you belong playing?

Feel free to dig into me after this post as your limp egos will no doubt demand. You'll get no reaction in terms of a response. I just had to finally speak up because your childish whining at reached an unbearable crescendo. The idea that any creator NEEDS your limited few as an audience is just priceless.

There, I have said my piece. You may proceed to lynch me instead of Kosmopol. A mob is really what this group has devolved into.

Nachspiel... You seem to be new here, so perhaps you don't know me too well yet.

Although I am personally upset at the PM and his actions (he knows about UF and the rules here, but breaks them anyway), the post you so thoughtfully quoted was not me attacking the PM... I'm attacking the character.

What you quoted from me *is* roleplay. The character called ME a "coward". I didn't start screaming "Hey, PM! I'm dong playing your game! Screw you!" ... I retaliated at the character, which is well within the bounds of the "game", no?

Like I said: in every game we all pick our roles and how we want to play. I have chosen (or someone chose me as such) to be the enemy.

Game on.

I actually started reading "Beyond Good and Evil" a few months ago, but unfortunately didn't make it very far. I've been meaning to pick it back up, but I keep getting distracted, haha.

Exactly! If the PM is interested in his ARG (and I'm sure, he is), he will find another way for it.

If it's impostor story, it's unfortunately not so rare phenomenon. I've experienced similiar situation in one German wannabie-ARG. Somebody anonymous (at least for me) copied a very prominent ARG Makers in very blatant way, they made kind of "ARG", and offended many regular players, then they sent a fax to many bloggers with the header of this ARG makers, so they compromised the image of the whole company. It wasn't fine. And as we tried to contact them, they just disappeared...

Anyway,

I really like your contributions and various opinions in this thread. Even if the story seems to lost momentum for a ehm... momentum, the discussions here are really interesting. I think, sometimes an ARG crisis can mean great OOG discussion. I just hope, we can also continue to play one day.

Because I'm actually want to save Junko from dirty paws of benefactors...

Or perhaps we need to contact the benefactors, because the sisters are actually a danger for the world?.. Who knows...

I agree totally. I'm here to learn... I think I can get really into this 'stuff'... and in the far future might be interested in PM'ing... This just happened to be the ARG with the fewest pages on the 'news & rumors' when I signed up and I hopped in. I've been enjoying it and now I feel like I've just enrolled in ARG 101... which is awesome!

Ok, I call bullcrap on the PM! I had to double check & it turns out I'm right. These particular quotes from Nachspiel's flame post:

were written at our "other forum"... I'm pretty sure that no one posted the link for it, so that means Nachspiel is either one of us (who registered at the other forum) & is too coward to post with his/her true uF handle or it's clearly the PM breaking uF's TOS by posting here...

PaperbckWriter9, thanks for pointing that out. I was wondering how they got the post from the other forum as well.
