For the record, the Sidetone Video has been added to the wiki. Enjoy.

Hey guys, I just wanted to bring something up about how the Wiki is being edited lately and check in with other editors to see if I'm the only one bugged by it (not that I'm getting time to edit stuff much lately, hurr durr).

It's in regards to the 'signing' that's going on in the wiki. In the Spec and Analysis section of each entry, it's fine to sign your name after something you've written -- that's what that section is supposed to be for. But on pages like the Operator page, the whole point of a wiki is that it's non-proprietary; we're supposed to be able to go in and edit each others' work, making something greater than any of us could write on our own. Signing your name as the person who wrote or came up with the idea may act as a deterrent to that.

Also, signing your name after something implies that you came up with the idea and in many cases where I see this happening, most of them are theories I've seen posited or floating around the forum for some time!

It's not a huge deal or a world-ending faux pas, but I do think that it is a style issue that needs addressing. Does this bug anybody else? Would anyone have a problem with me going through pages like the Operator page and removing the sign-offs?

*ETA*
As for changing the names of the confusing "Observations and Theories" and "Speculation and Analysis" sections, how about:

"Observations and Theories" for things pulled from the forum
"Wiki Dialogue" for speculation directly inserted into the wiki?

Or alternately, simply "Further Speculation" for the latter?

*Son of ETA*
Hey Spacechicken, awesome job on the entry transcripts you've gone through so far! Very Happy

enttry #37 now has a wiki page.

http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/enttry-37

Edit: Added a transcript I wrote up. If anything is disputed, please feel free to alter it.

Quote:
[0:00] Blue screen

[0:01] VHS-style "PLAY" shows up in right-top corner

[0:03] Black screen, tracking static appears at bottom of screen and persists through the rest of the video

[0:05] Date/Time stamp reads "APR 4 1991, 4:41 PM" A young Alex Kralie opens presents while his mother and several children huddle around him. Audio is removed and replaced with tone that changes pitch, persists until 0:27

[0:12-0:13] Video skips frames, visual tear

[0:23] Alex's mother looks off-screen and waves away someone

[0:24] An Operator symbol appears over Alex's face for a split second

[0:27] Black screen

[0:28] Video returns, Date/Time stamp reads "APR 4 1991, 6:03 PM" Alex's mother walks into a room holding a birthday cake. Voices sing Happy Birthday, one voice noticeably lower in pitch than the others.

[0:36] Alex's mother places cake in front of Alex, now in different attire.

[0:43] Camera tilts down to focus on Alex

[0:51] Alex blows out candles, screen goes dark

[0:52-0:53] Silhouette of The Operator appears over top of Alex and severe color distortion occurs. Date/Time stamps change several times to the following:
"JUN 3 1900, 8:23 PM"
"JULY 10 1999, 6:03 AM"
"AUG 30 1891, 1:00 PM"
"MAY 17 1988, 9:00 AM"
"SEP 4 1991, 10:48 AM"
"JAN 1 1992, 12:00 AM"
"FEB 29 1996, 4:44 AM"
"DEC 31 1999, 11:58 PM"
"MAR 3 1981, 9:42 AM"
"NOV 12 1993, 12:34 AM"
"JUN 6 1944, 9:99 AM"
"APR 4 1991, 6:03 PM."
Audio is high-pitched tone that persists until 0:56

[0:54] Audio: Children and deep-toned voice cheer

[0:55] Audio, Alex: "All at once!" (Disputable)

[0:58] Audio, Alex's mother: "All at once. Very nice, Alex."

[1:00] Blue screen, VHS-style "STOP" shows up in right-top corner. Audio cuts out entirely.

[1:03] "STOP" disappears

"The Operator" page is extremely disorganized. Nearly everything is posted under the large "Speculation & Analysis" header, even concrete information. The theories based on overly-detailed conjecture are mixed in randomly with solid In-Game facts.

Would anyone be opposed to rewriting it? Zeta Kai put a lot of work into compiling the info, but I really think it needs reformatting.

EDIT: I also find some information objectionable, such as The Operator not being able to speak.

Not at all adverse to someone giving it a do-over for organization's sake! If you'd like to, please, go ahead.

Did a bit of work on it. Removed the 'Speculation and Analysis' header all together and moved as much of what I saw as speculation into a sub-header in each section.

in regards to the chronology:

entry 2 definitely was before 13. i'd argue that it was before 12 as well. also, 38 definitely came after 39, but before 29.

I agree that 2 comes before 13 and 12 - Alex doesn't yet recognize the Operator as something inhuman.

I also suggest that 12 comes before 13 for the same reason. Alex again thinks it's just a tall guy in 12, but immediately runs away from him in 13.

Sorry guys!

There's no real excuse, I'm a total flake. Slenderman did not visit.

Man, there's still stuff to do on the wiki. Smile If you still wanted to pitch in, there are entry transcripts still to do, or the slightly longer task of theory compilations for recent entries. Both of which would be super helpful!

I don't have working Internet on my computer right now but that should change in a few days. I'll let you guys know because I definitely want to help c:

Just let me know what I need to do~

EDIT: actually I would love to do the theory compilations. I've missed the antics of this forum..

I see you guys are running the wiki on wikidot.com.

Would you like me to buy a domain and possibly some hosting so you guys' can run a self-hosted wiki? I can help out doing all the server-side stuff (I'm kinda' really experienced in web development and server management, Razz).

Let me know if you're interested!

P.S: It might be best to PM me so I get it in my email, as I'm not always able to check this forum, and only have time to check my email sometimes. Such is the life of being a student, Sad.
