Awesome! Very Happy Well, you pretty much have your pick of ones that need doing. Just find an Entry article that doesn't have anything/doesn't have much in the "Main Theories and Observations" section, find that entry's thread in the handy Forum Index, and run through it for the theories put forth. Usually they require some editing, but that tends to be at your discretion -- the important thing is to try and not edit based on the theories you think are right or wrong... just what has, like, some actual evidence behind it.

I see you guys are running the wiki on wikidot.com.

Would you like me to buy a domain and possibly some hosting so you guys' can run a self-hosted wiki? I can help out doing all the server-side stuff (I'm kinda' really experienced in web development and server management, Razz).

Let me know if you're interested!

That's really generous, colby, thank you! I think right now wikidot is doing alright for our needs, though.

You're welcome!

And alright! I suppose it would be kinda' hard to move a whole wiki over, and why fix something that isn't broken, Razz.

The wiki hasn't been updated in AGES.

^ Agreed, somewhat.

There are updates, but they are sort of orphaned and the content isn't very well fleshed out.

Was anyone in command of the wiki before? Do we need a "to do" list on this? I know the entries page doesn't have several entries listed, and few of the last handful of entries do not have transcriptions.

Myself and another couple of people --ZetaKai, Zaden, Dav, mostly people you don't see around here much -- were the main ones who tried to keep order in the wiki. I've had to step back because of real life getting in the way, and it doesn't look like anyone's picked up the slack. There are haphazard new pages for new entries, but no one puts anything up except for their own personal theories... which kind of drives me batty, but right now I just plain don't have the time to do any more theory compiling. :/ It takes ages to comb through a thread properly, and right now moderatorship and real life take precedence.

There wasn't a to-do list as such -- or, there was for a short while, but it was never updated and most of the people who agreed to help out never came through, so I was just going through entry by entry and sprucing up the pages sequentially.

If someone else wanted to take up the wiki mantle, make a to-do list and go at the sucker themselves or with a small team, I would be thrilled, and would be willing to help out with what time I have free or pass on my methods or whatever.

Awesome! Generally what needs doing goes:
1. Make entry page. This includes everything in the usual template: basic info, video link, quick description, long transcript, section for theories.
2. Gather theories. Go through the thread for the entry in question and gather theories that have enough evidence or fan support to include. This is generally where it falls apart, as people who edit the wiki tend to skip this step and only include the theories either they're privy to, or they're partial to.
3. Maintain existing pages. When new information comes to light that might have something to do with an already-existing page, add it to that page.

That thar's the gist of it. Are you up for it?

You guys are the best. /dramatic tear

Okay, since the unforums don't seem to allow for multiple recipients of PMs, I think we should just do this here. Do you guys want to dibs entry pages to do, or just dive in and have at? Either way'll work!

Good Examples!
- http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-21 -- Related Tweets are listed, and a link to the Twitterwatch wiki page is there.
- http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-22 --Main Theories and Observations section is very large, and therefore broken up into different categorical sections.
- http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/inquiry-video -- It is okay to sometimes credit discoveries posted on the forums when it's a very clean-cut example of who did it, like in the example here where Feiticera was the first to think of making a spectrograph of the entry and came up with something HUGE.
There are a number of other good ones, but these above make good templates to work from. If you don't know how something was formatted, go into these via "edit" and check out the coding! The syntax is not too rough. Here's a link to the wikidot syntax page, for the curious.

Need Work

Partial Page/Polishing
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/signal-video (transcript formatting; nothing dire)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-23 (transcript formatting)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-25 (ditto; thread links)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-26
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-27 (so much transcript formatting)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-28 (ditto)

http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-30 (dittdurrr)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-31 (it's nice that they did them but durr)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-32 (moar)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-34 (likewise)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/fragments-video (needs a transcript in whole)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/sidetone-video (just formatting again)

http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-41
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-43 (total transcript)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/inquiry-video (just a liiittle bit of transcript polish)

Refer to the MH Forum Index to find the specific threads for each of these videos!

http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/signal-video
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-18

http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-38 (may need sprucing up)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-39 (somebody misunderstood and put their own personal -- and since disproven -- theory in the Main Theories section)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/forecast-video (same here)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-40
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/intermission-video (arrrgh more of it)

http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/memories-video (derp)
http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/entry-43
-- dibsed by onetruepurple
Note -- I didn't read any of the above transcripts, just looked to see if they were there/properly formatted. They might be full of derp, I don't know.

The general guidelines are to treat it like Wikipedia: be as impartial as possible. You'll notice that in the "Speculation and Analysis" section, people have signed their names after theories. We don't want this. I've made it a personal policy, as a matter of courtesy, not to delete people's signatures but I have relegated them to the "Speculation" subheading. This is partially because signing one's name implies that the theory is only one person's and therefore not the whole community's, which is a bit counter to what the wiki tries to be.

The idea of "Main Theories and Observations" is to list all the pertinent theories in regards to an entry, in as unbiased a manner as possible (for example, Blasky would be listed as "a figure in a pale hoodie and a mask" rather than "a guy in a yellow hoodie"), and to respect player controversy (for example, the hooded person in Entry #45 would not be automatically assumed to be the same as the hooded person in Entry #41 given that viewers can't 100% agree). This should include the things that the people below have speculated, as long as they're not like... "and the operator is totally an alien" level of durrr. This is also a place where observations about the entry that casual viewers might not catch go, ie hidden frames, distortion types, building similarities.

Transcripts should be done the same way. Things should be reported in as much detail as possible, with as few assumptions as possible. If there's a logical conclusion, it can be suggested ("drops of water appear to be falling on the surface of the puddle; it may be raining"), but character assumptions in particular should be avoided (though everyone knows it's Tim that screams at the end of Entry #35, it would still be listed in the transcript as "a yell can be heard from off-camera" rather than "Tim yells").

Some totheark videos don't lend themselves well to transcripts. If you decide to do one that will be like 80% "black screen for 5 seconds", "static in vague shapes", feel free to write a paragraph-style summary rather than a transcript, as long as salient details are all included.

There should also be some thought given to the idea of immersion. If you can avoid mentioning out-of-game facts, do. It's not the end of the world if some slip in there, but I know there are people out there who appreciate being able to hold onto the illusion!

I encourage everyone who wants to work on the wiki to read through the existing wiki entries that have been done to see how it goes, and to catch any errors that might be in 'em! It also seems to help to do one whole entry yourself, from transcript to theories, rather than jumping around and, say, doing all of the transcripts and then all of the theories etc... Additionally, if you take on an entry, it wouldn't hurt to read through the whole page with an eye for what's already there and edit any grammar/content/readability issues. The more the merrier!

If anyone can think of better, more relevant names for "Main Theories and Observations" and "Further Speculation and Analysis", please put them forth. XD They're kind of lame and undescriptive, but I've been pulling blanks every time I try to come up with something new for them.

I swear this is not as dire an undertaking as it sounds, hur hur. I actually had a lot of fun while I was working on the wiki, and I think having a good number of you guys havin' at the darn thing will alleviate the stress of feeling like it's all on your shoulders.

Any questions?

I guess splitting it up would be the best way to do it, so two people don't work on the same thing at the same time or something. we can each take a couple small chunks, then come back and announce what we're gonna do next.

i'll start with operator video through entry 15. yay team Very Happy

Argh. A bit of a bump in the road here....

So, to edit the Marble Hornets wiki, if you can't already, you need to either join up with the wiki specifically (not just wikidot; the MH wiki itself) or be invited. It's been changed since I joined, so I'm a little lost on how you do that.

BUT. That said, I think Dav, as admin of the wiki, can invite you. If you toss me a PM with your wikidot username, I will send them en masse to Dav... and maybe in the meantime get the ability to invite you guys myself.

This is silly. XD Sorry for the wait. High-five, shoeler, for staking out your claim already!
