Phone mail passwords... I've noticed that NO ONE has really mentioned breaking into the phone mail system...
I decided to try to figure out Marcus's security code... since now we have his birthday, maybe its a possibility?
Anyone have any ideas??

hehe... I have to ask, but what will you say if some dude picks up the phone on the other end and says "hello Marcus speaking..."

I'd say, GIMME YOUR PASSWORD OR MORE ACTORS FROM PREDATOR ARE GOING TO GAIN POLITICAL POWA. (Dont forget to say it with an Awnold accent)

We tried that a few days ago I'm pretty sure they are all 4-digit.
The line of thinking was "maybe he has "in-game" messages stored in his voicemail.

I was thinking, if Marcus has a REAL k7 passcode, there's an option to have your code mailed to you on the K7 website. So, if we have his Metadex login (IF... rah!), we could enter his metadex mailaddress and see if K7 mails the address to the Metadex inbox... then we could break into the voicemail system.
Probably not gonna work, but stil...

I have thought about that, and I would say it's probably not bad to try some targeted password attempts at his k7 mailbox. One huge word of caution:
k7 is a real voicemail company. They are not going to be happy about people trying to break into their system. They would also probably be in the right if they try and prosicute you for it. Be careful, and don't hurt their system too much, they are just trying to make money.
Also, I am not sure how useful it's going to be. It's probably just a bunch of our messages trying to pose as metacortechs employees .

I'd guess the hint left at Marcus's message with his "umm, ...push the # key.." is pretty straight forward: there is indeed something to gain by breaking into the mailbox system...

Unless it is the master PW we're looking for it's a 4 digit number. It cannot start with '*', '#' or '0' (see code below) and it must contain only numbers with the exception of '*'(see code below).
Quote:
if (i==0) {
if (tempStr =="*" || tempStr == "#" || tempStr == "0") {
return false
}
}
this is the line that makes sure '*', '#' and '0' isn't the first chr
if (tempStr == "0" || tempStr == "1" || tempStr == "2" || tempStr == "3"
|| tempStr == "4" || tempStr == "5" || tempStr == "6" || tempStr == "7"
|| tempStr == "8" || tempStr == "9" || tempStr == "*") {
this is the line that limits the PW to numbers and '*'
So it starts at 1000, it would be extremly easy to write a javascript script to go through the 9000 numbers.
But now we'd be hammering a non-game site, and it's probably illegal!

Zero Why could it not start with 0?

The default password for my company's vmail is 0000 before you are asked to change it.
Don't want to make it harder, but....
There has to be a hint someplace of what it is

"if (tempStr =="*" || tempStr == "#" || tempStr == "0")" always returns false if they are found in the first digit. This means that it automaticly assumes that the password is invalid if it starts with those characters. Therefore, they can not be used to start the password.

not worth the effort? K7 being a legitimate company makes me think that its not worth the effort trying to hack the characters voicemails. I signed up to K7 to see what the options are. As soon as anyone hacks the password/code whatever, they would have full access to the account, so could delete all the messages, change the message left by marcus, lol, change the password for that matter. Not a very efficient way of leaving us clues, is it? So unless we find an in game version that maybe has different levels of access (listen only or whatever) I don't think this is worth pursuing.

question for katgirl Does the real k7 prompts sound like mlo's voice mail? it seems possible that its not a 'real' k7 account.. (but mocked up to act like one)

. if it wasn' limited to numbers i'd suggest you try 'hash' as the pw, which is one of the names for #.
good luck.

Some Someone try 8897? This is his metadex password converted into numbers as per the telephone codes -- t=8, u-8, x=9, p=7
