The Chorazos Cult was founded in the 16th century in the mountains of Romania, lead by a man named Chorazos. They worshiped Yog-Sothoth. They were exiled from Romania in 1594, from where they moved to England (possibly because of their unusual popularity with Queen Elizabeth) and built a temple in Finchley. The next year they were forced out of London again by their patron and moved to a house known as "The Oaks". In 1596, The Oaks was burned down by angry villagers and the few remaining survivors of the cult (including Chorazos himself) moved to Scotland. They found Scotland no more hospitable a place than England as they were once again attacked following the disapearances of several villagers. After Britain and Scotland were joined, rumors say they moved to the Colonies, though they had also established footholds in Britain's colonies, most notably India. Modern record places them in a manor in upstate New York, near Attica. It is understood that once an individual is a member of the Chorazos Cult, the only way to leave is through death.

lmao. Without going into too much detail, they haven't done that specifically, though they have been able to locate people's addresses via public record to send them packages.

Besides, Chorazos is a techno-cult--they're made up of hackers and computer scientists.

Oh my, that's just too good. My computer is named Yog-Sothoth. Seriously.

Unfortunately, I don't really follow the modern developments of the Cthulu Mythos. I'm kind of a Lovecraftian purist.

And you were wondering why I made myself from Miskatonic--so I could reference Eldritch Errors events Very Happy

do you seriously study folk legends and all that, like ye said in the opening vid

cause that has got to be a damned cool study-area >_>

Nah, I'm a biochem major with a minor in creative writing and music. No mythology for me. Though I agree--it would be a damn cool field of study.

It would be cool if the world were a movie. Unfortunately, myths are just sociological history, so it's really not that enlightening.

Dav, I don't know if you added Yggdrasil to the notebook, but that addition really killed it. Connecting other mythos to SM is a red herring when there's no actual connection other than the ones people make up now.

I have no idea what is up with this blog, but it really, really should not be under the Marble Hornets forum. It's not related, it's totally tangential, and it's really spiraled out of control. There is such thing as taking oneself too seriously. JAF has done that.

What makes MH work is that NOT A SINGLE TIME has anyone involved said that this thing is "Slender Man." Talking about "Slender Man" and "studying mythology" (as if there's anything to study on him) completely ruins it. MH plays out like an extended thriller film, and JAF plays out like a group of tittering nerds online and someone who's trying real, real hard to be creepy using a notebook full of half-assed scribbles.

If anyone involved in JAF actually reads here (and I would never be surprised to learn that any one of the people posting in response to these things are the maker): someone came up with a better idea than you, they're executing it in a more successful manner than you. People really don't get that jumping on the bandwagon to do something cool and get recognition doesn't work if you don't do it well.

Nothing in this blog makes me believe that the notebook is dangerous. Marble Hornets succeeds because I just watched a guy get attacked by a masked lunatic, and I can see a really creepy guy with no face every couple weeks. Video does wonders for believability.

The point that JAF doesn't really belong in the MH subforum or wiki is well-taken, although I think it's so well-entrenched those places it would be difficult to get people to move. However, could we please not have a My Slender Man could beat up your Slender Man argument?

BH

I've said it before, but in case you all missed it, I'm BH. I got Logan's parcel in the mail today, and will be posting a video of it soon. I'll let everyone know as soon as I do.

Just so everyone knows, from what I gather, the people who received pages torn from a notebook should be BS (II), DF (III), JA (IV), and RE (VIII). I'll show you why in my video.

Soon tonight, or soon tomorrow? I'm trying to decide whether or not to hit the hay here. Smile

(And a bit curious why you have me labeled as VIII in your list. My letter was marked IV.)

Yeah, I assumed that the initials and numbered order were identical, but I guess you're 4 and JA is 8, then. My bad.

Anyway, it won't be for a few hours--I need to shower before I put my mug on the WWW. Get some sleep and you can check it out tomorrow.

Here are the videos. Sorry it took so long, but I just got the notebook yesterday, and I'll scan each page as soon as possible.

Watched this a while ago when I noticed you'd uploaded them on YouTube. Thoughts:

* The picture of SM with the eight worlds: some of them look like clock faces. Really looking forward to a scan of this page, as well as the one that looked like a winged being (SM?) flying away with something. I have some theories developing, but they're only half-formed at the moment.

* The remaining numbers: I'm presuming you are I. VI would be Joshua I suppose, since he's the other person whose initials are listed in "Found. You." Do we wait for him to come forward with it, or do we wait to see if he does so on his own? V and VII: Players who will be identified later, or future characters? (As an aside, the back of V matches what I could make out of the impressions on the back of my letter. So now I'm less upset I couldn't make out more of that than I did.)

* A little freaked out by the "Goodbye" at the end. Logan, be less doomed. Sad

* Big infodump here, and a lot to sort out, not least of which is how much of this is "real" within the game world and how much of this is Logan having a massive break with reality?

Didn't say he was better, I'm saying that MH is more effectively executed. I wouldn't have said anything if the journal received by Dav didn't have
"Yggdrasil" added (whichever character added it). If this is an ARG, it would be less annoying if it took less than four months to make any sense. I only rant about it because I spent my time reading this stuff and expecting something interesting to happen.

If it helps, I almost believe that Logan is real and totally nuts. [edit] Actually, I'll cave and say that if I got the second notebook in the mail, I'd be mildly freaked out to read it.

By the way, I'm now totally confused as to what's what. I thought Logan was sending notes, now someone has another journal? The handwriting seems to match, but the content is just as vague as before. He obviously doesn't want anyone's help.

The notes Logan was sending were pages out of the notebook he sent to BH. The writing on the back of V in BH's notebook clearly matches up to the impressions I have on the back of the note I received (IV).

The first notebook was largely filler/red herrings, but contained several actual clues (The phone number and 11:11), I suspect this notebook will be the same.

With the nine worlds thing (Norse myth cosmology), and possibly the falling off a tree story and flight picture (both seem to reference stories that exist about Išunn), the Norse myth thing started with the appearance of Yggdrasil in Matt/Logan's notebook (added by Logan) is going to continue.

But who is Slender Man in reference to Norse myths? I thought he spent his time kidnapping little kids and terrorizing people in the woods.

I got that the pages were from the notebook now, but I'm left wondering why BH got the rest.

I don't think he's meant to match up to any specific being, although he could certainly slot in as an unnamed jotun.

OOG: Because there's something in the notebook we need to know, and he got it because he would be the last person to get mail from the PM based on delivery time.

IG: I have no idea why Logan picked him. Let's go with "because he's awesome."
