Vegas Plans - from Diandra's POV

Normally I wouldn't get so personal on the public board, but I think I need to clear the air here.

My parents were having one of those major anniversaries that end in "0", and I thought I would be a good daughter and let them renew their vows in Vegas. This was supposed to happen the last week of February/first week of March. I checked into everything and was ready to put the deposit down on their ceremony at the Venetian Grand Canal when they decided to go to Costa Rica instead. So, I told everyone that originally knew I was going to LV that I wouldn't be there. (Steve, Kona and SpaceBass were planning to meet me on my trip.)

SB still wanted to go to LV, and he planned to go at the end of April. Well, he asked me to try and get there, and the next thing I know, the ARGfestocon took on a life of its own. More and more people made plans to join SB, and then Martha's event was put on the schedule. I finally made plans to come out.

Once I reserved my plane tickets, I started asking people what else they were doing while in LV. It seemed no one had any real solid plans they cared to include me in, other than the Saturday night event. I proposed a brunch, but the people I informally surveyed balked at the price, and at least one of them led me to believe there was some kind of breakfast meeting some would be attending on Sunday morning.

Let me explain that I am in LV quite often. I have certain places I frequent when I am there. One of them is the brunch I usually go to on Sunday mornings. I would go by myself if no one else cared to. It's just what I do in Vegas on Sunday mornings. The place suggests reservations two weeks in advance. I found one other person that wanted to go, and made reservations for two. If I didn't ask you, it was because I realized that the consensus was not in favor of the event, and I let it drop as far as trying to include everyone.

I also didn't know much about the Saturday night event, but I do know that Las Vegas Blvd is a mess on Sat nights, so I thought I would get a limo and not have to be bothered driving the strip in traffic. I intended to do this on my own because I sensed that finances were a concern for the majority when I suggested the expensive brunch. Then Cabalagent and Danman + his dad decided to come to the Fest. I thought it would be fun to have them with me (since it seemed other people had their own agendas as no one tried to make plans with me and I'd been turned down for the buffet) and do something a minor could do after the event. Cabal said he'd split the car cost with me, and we decided to go to the Star Trek Experience and take Dan + his dad. I opened it up to the rest of the attendees to see if anyone had interest for that.

Unbeknownst to me, a group of you had been chatting in UF today about getting a limo. One of those people was Dan, and I mention this because I thought he was coming in the car which Cabal and I already have reserved. I just want to say that I was not asked to chip in on that limo, so there is no confusion about this being the "group" limo that you all planned on your own. You are, however, welcome to join us if you wish and we will take those that care to come to Star Trek as long as we have room. After that, we will return you to the Hard Rock. If you guys do get a group limo, it would be great if we took both cars there, but if you all have other plans, that is fine, too.

Another thing I usually do in Vegas is go to my spa there. Chatting with Kona, I found out that she works there, so I decided on Saturday to work out, attend a new exercise class she told me about, have lunch there, and catch a ride with Kona to the event. I later found out that she was one of the people talking about the group limo, so now I understand her confusion about me catching a ride to the event with her. If she gets a group limo to go to the Hard Rock, I can easily find a ride to the event. If you're into the spa, talk to Kona. (I highly recommend the facility.) If anyone else will be there or around the Venetian for lunch Saturday, please post here to see if we can get together.

I have Friday free so far. Saturday the spa, our event, and Star Trek. Sunday Brunch. Free Sunday afternoon.

(I made my own plans from Sunday night on as I thought most of you would be returning home by then.)

I have no idea what the rest of you have planned for Fri-Sat-Sun, but I thought it would be great if we posted our schedules and ideas in one place. I originally felt very left out of everyone's plans, so I began to make my own. When I began sharing those plans, I realized that others are feeling left out as well. It's apparently causing confusion and hard feelings. I don't want that to interfere with our trip, so I decided to get personal here with my plans with the hopes that others would do the same.

Oops, my bad Razz... I wasnt too involved in this convo, and was half away, and I thought we were talking about the same limo Razz... Anyway, yes, I'm still planning to hop the limo with Dia and Cabal on saturday, as long as it's cool with you two.

Other than saturday night's event, I have almost nothing planned, and I agree we should get as much planned here as possible. It's a long trip for me, and while I dont wanna bore dad, I also don't wanna spend much time wandering vegas aimlessly Smile Let me know what you guys are thinking...

-Danny

PS: Spacebass, you really need to add a smilie for the Razz guy... Smile

I'm in town midday Friday thru Monday morning.

So far all I have is Saturday nite with Martha, and then late tix to "O" (oops my bad now I realize I can't do the Star Trek thing with everyone)(crud). Perhaps you'll be back at Hard Rock late enough I can hook up again...

What's the spa link? I can do something Saturday day as well, altho an exercise class is NOT my idea of a vacation activity . . . Facials and massages are good, tho.

I'm also always up for a good brunch. Count me in, Diandra, if they'll let you expand the reservation.

So I have Friday evening open and all day Sunday after brunch, where I was going to improvise, get some sun, gamble, find an excellent restaurant or two. Never having been to Vegas, I am content not to load up on activities while I get a feel for the place.

As noted elsewhere, I rented a car so I can transport a few folks. Staying at the Tuscany.

For anyone interested:

On most weekends I work at Canyon Ranch SpaClub; my Saturday shift is 10a-4p. If I have no clients, I can often take one of the exercise classes. Diandra and I are planning to do a class called "School Days" at 2p. Depending on how busy it is, we will be having an early lunch together in the cafe.

I can't get anyone any discounts for Spa services on a weekend (but you can get Friends/Family rate if you are here on Monday). I can get you a free workout passport (use of the gym, the classes, the locker rooms, etc). Just have to let me know who, and when you will get here so I can be at the front desk when you check-in (normally the passport is $30).

I also was planning on at least one meal in one of the better restaurants in town since I have heard so much about them. I'd love to join with anyone who cares to in finding somewhere special to eat Friday evening. Diandra and Kona have offered several suggestions already and my handy tour book lists several more. Some possiblities might be the Tower at the Stratosphere, Spago, and le Cirque. However, I'm open to anything.

I'm passing on the brunch only because I rarely have an appetite early in the day and so it seems like a bit of a waste for me. Maybe someone would like to hit one of the other brunches with me on Sunday. I have a ticket for the 7:30 performance of "O" on Sunday, so I'm stuck with either a late dinner or something earlier but close to the Bellagio. I'd love to have company for that dinner also.

So I'm reviewing my ticket to "O" and I find it's FRIDAY evening (late show).

I'm up for a nice dinner Sunday, mott. Steve and kona, is Spago just trendy or is the food actually good?

IMHO, trendy.

What kind of a meal were you looking for? How much do you want to spend? Wolfgang Pucks Cafe in the middle of the MGM casino floor has been good food for me. The Palms (steak & seafood) inside Caesar's Forum was excellent. For Asian flare, I really like Little Budda in The Palms hotel/casino.

So, you're up for Saturday night shindigs also?! May the force be with you.
