Lex's ARGfest code - year 2

Well, if you were at ARGfest last year, you might remember there was a code written on the backs of some of my business cards. Turns out it was a much bigger success than I'd anticipated, and I'd feel bad not doing the same again this year.

However, this year I'm going to be much more up-front about it. It's not a trailhead this time, just a code. More importantly, the code will be a lot longer than 17 letters, which means two things:
  • A lot more people will get to be involved
  • A lot more cards will have to be collected up Razz

Anyway, in the weeks leading up to ARGfest, I'll be posting one code a week for you to crack. All I'll tell you is that the code is entirely consistent. It's probably a lot simpler than the previous code, too.

Here's code number one. Have fun!

Yay, puzzle time. Here's some observations from me.

Firstly, I count 33 unique symbols there, so that's plain simple sub out. Each symbol has 2 features to it, shape and colour. There's 6 different shapes (0, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 sides) and 8 different colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, white and black). The groupings of symbols also look very word-like, so each symbol will likely get replaced by a letter, somehow.

Now to mull on this for a while and see what comes up.

I'm trying to click and swap some of the crystals but it's not working. How am I supposed to get three in a row and make them go away then?

Ha, with a bit more prodding I got it. I'll separate the thought process I went through from the solution for fun as well.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I was first of all working under the assumption that it was probably a polyalphabetic substitution and decided to try and throw some cribs at it. I first thought I had something when I saw you could fit 'AGENT LEX' on the 4th/5th line, but that soon fell to pieces trying to find a word that fit 'E--G'.

I then thought to try out 'THE' for the first words on the 4th and 6th lines, which gave some nice looking arrangements elsewhere, like a '--TH' on the first line. The problem was where to go from there, because there were no certain words to make. So this is where I made a bit of a guess in logic behind it that totally worked out for me.

I assumed there would be some pattern to how the letters were assigned and looking at the first 'THE' you could see the 'E' was a white triangle and the 'H' was a yellow triangle. You have 2 letters between them (FG) in the alphabet, so I thought that could fit nicely if you they were triangles coloured Red and Orange, to order the colours in the rainbow order. Extending this logic all over it all fell into place pretty quickly.

The actual decode is in the spoiler below, in case anyone wants to try at it themselves.

Decode:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
LETS START WITH
SOMETHING
SIMPLE

THE QUICK BROWN
FOX JUMPS OVER
THE LAZY DOG
---

Once I saw the word 'QUICK' that bottom bit was like a kick to the head :P
I do prefer "The five boxing wizards jumped quickly" though.

As to the exact logic behind how the symbols were assigned to letters, I'm not quite sure. However, the colour order is always Black, White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink and the different shapes were assigned to bits of the looping alphabet as follows (With the colour of the shape for each letter following the order I just mentioned):

zabcdefg -Circle
hijklmno -Diamond
pqrstuvw
xyzabcde -Octogon
fghijklm
nopqrstu -Hexagon
vwxyzabc
defghijk -Triangle
lmnopqrs
tuvwxyza -Pentagon (diamond shape)
bcdefghi
jklmnopq
rstuvwxy

Look forward to the next one.

Well, crud. I didn't think it'd get solved with that one little ciphertext. Damn you, "the"!

That said, there is one more detail to work out about how shapes are assigned to those... well, you know what I mean if you saw the spoiler. You have everything you need to figure it in that spoiler box, mind.

I'll admit, I got a bit disheartened.

That said, I've just finished off drawing up the brand spanking new code on the business cards. On this one I'm not even gonna post anything here in advance!

Hey, so I guess I'm the first one with a business card to post?

Here's the situation as I know it: There are 42 cards, they are numbered and they have London underground stations on the back.

Mine was 03 and had Wapping on it.

I'll get a rough list from Lex of who he handed out cards to and try to get as many as I can on here.

Mine is #25 with Green Park written on it in what looks like a tan colored marker. Above and below "Green Park" is a thick blue line with a tan colored circle in the center. Maybe the there is a "Blue Line" route for the London underground.

Code:
______O______

    Green

     Park

______O______
