[Day One] Sargasso Planet So labfly tweeted a link to http://sargassoplanetfan.com
Apparently there's a viral that's begun for NBC's new series coming up called Day One.
People have received packages in the mail, and the character's got a website, fictional figures, all that jazz...

And apparently Adamski's lost Sargasso Planet figurines were even on sale at Comic Con . d'oh! ($147,000 worth, but still...)

Re: [Day One] Sargasso Planet Ha, I'm trying to make what we're seeing in this game so far jive with that preview for the show. That alone should keep me following for awhile.

Okay, I'll bite. I'm in. For both ARG and show. Any show with Xander Berkeley and Carly Pope: Win.

the Zazzle store he tweets about
He says, some of his products have been removed. I guess by "some" he means "all of them"?
Interesting image at the top there.
Edit@thebruce: I suspect it's a user contribution, since it's stored in the contributions directory. I don't know if that increases the chances for it to mean something.

yes indeedy. The filename is 'mantle.png'.
It may just be a zazzle template with no meaning, or it could be a custom template.

As far as I can tell, Zach (and his gf(?) Bonnie) is a character on the show..
spoiler for BTS info...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The source for http://www.sargassoplanetfan.com/ shows that the site is coming from http://web.mac.com/chaodai/ which turns out to belong to Javier Grillo-Marxauch, who is a co-producer on Day One and a graphic novel and television writer, and who was involved in The Lost Experience.
EDIT:
just for completeness, similar BTS info...

The "Me" page on sargassoplanetfan.com links to NaNoWriMo. When I follow that link, though, the page title and URL bar "stay behind" as "Greetings Sargassoids!" and http://sargassoplanetfan.com/ respectively.
Also, I can't find Alan S. Corey as an author on the NaNoWriMo site (I tried it with the weirdness-through-link in case I would thereby see a subtly altered version). I've tried searching on 'alan', 'corey', and 'sargas', and I haven't seen any promising entries.
('alan' yields too many entries, so I filtered by SF authors because he says he writes speculative fiction.)

First, the url and title don't change because the sargassoplanetfan site is loaded in a framset - open the nanowrimo link in a new window (also it is only a link to the main page)
Alan S. Corey to me feels like a pen name. Anagram? Another related name possibly to be made from it?
His email is enabrantain@ - Enabran Tain was the head of the Obsidian Order in ST:DS9 / link
No hits for Enabran either, or the chaodai name where the fan site is located.

Found something interesting on the Day One website -
Quote:
Digital Features
• Interactive video wall - a feed room to view, share and post Day One stories and streams
• Survivors video blog in the form of user-submitted video that helps populate the video wall and could be featured on air
I'm I reading that right? Players can play along and may be featured on the air?

ALANSCOREY yields too many suggestive results to be conclusive: alone scary, coy arsenal, only Caesar, sole canary (warning of an information leak, perhaps? a "canary trap"?), Sara Ceylon, Sara Conley, lacy senora, nary solace, Carey Sloane, Carson Yale.
Enabran Tain just gives me "inert banana", and Chaodai is "chao aid" (where chao is the singular of chaos). :/
So yeah.

Calcios...hehe, I like that.
The artwork on the Sargasso video game cover looks like a scene from the trailer, when these pillars of whatever (seaweed?) have shot out of the ground.
This whole thing appears like a parable, if you read the story page. The aliens is us and the sentient race in larvae phase might be what we need to discover in order to help us fight off the "Insectillians".
Sargasso is derived from sargassum , which is seaweed. Who knows, maybe it is seaweed from space, we are being seeded with by the equivalent of the Insectillians.
Drifting off a little...
If the parable holds, we would have to befriend the weed. If that's what the "larvae" is. Now, how does that sound like to you?

Do you think the Sargasso Planet canon is based on reality, then? I had the impression we were dealing more with a corporate conspiracy and crimes against art than with visitors from another world.

I assume that the game is connected to the show Day One. I don't think that Sargasso Planet within the universe is based on what happens in Day One. Because that hasn't happened, yet. But I guess it's foreshadowing. And if Zack being a fan is important on the show, he might draw the comparison by himself at some point.
I know nothing about that show so far, but judging from the trailer it looks like aliens - or perhaps a "terrestrian" group - are shooting something into the ground that spreads out from there. The description of the show is extremely vague on this. And I should mention, I watched the trailer without sound.
Edit: Haha! And I didn't read the article thebruce posted or I could have avoided the "speculation". I guess my thought process is right on with the one who wrote the article. We might both just be crazy, though.
But I like his version more, with the seaweed being the environment for more space creatures.

So I was bored and searching around and came across a reference to Sargasso Planet on the Middleman LJ blog: http://themiddleblog.livejournal.com/

here's one cult show we forgot to reference on "the middleman" - maybe in our next incarnation!
http://www.sargassoplanetfan.com
(i couldn't help but notice something very odd about the "R" in "Ruben Guberman")
If you go to the Intro page of sargassoplanetfan, you'll find the name "Rueben[sic] Guberman".
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Click on the "R" in Rueben and you're taken to an easter egg page that includes a fan video of the Sargasso Planet titles..

The Middleman Connection Dante just a heads up as to the link The Middleman was created by Javier Grillo-Marxuach (pronounced HA-vee-air GREE-yoh MARX-watch) He is also working on Day One.
As a huge Middle Fan I do entreat anyone and everyone to get the DVDs for The Middleman
