Look. I've told all of you several times that I'm no hero. I'm not brave, and I'm not strong, and I'm really not sure why Melvin wanted me to fill in for him.

So I chickened out the other day when Earl came to visit. Earl, I'm sorry. You were so open with your support for the GU, and I panicked. I slammed the door on your face. You didn't deserve that, but it's just part of who I am: an utter coward.

I gave you something, though, Earl. An ID card that I stole from the Administer of Grotian Labor in Purity Towers. That may be of help to some of you because, with the proper information, it may assist you in finding useful information about Grotians. It has a login ID that I hope you noticed, Earl. Maybe that deed is enough to serve Melvin properly. Maybe I'll be free of my need to "lead" you now.

But there's a nagging in my heart that says I have to see this through. There's also a terror in my soul that says I should shut off the computer and cut off communications with all of you right now.

You're good people with a just cause. And Melvin is someone I cared about. He trusted me.

For now, I have to pretend to be excited about the day's events. Let's keep putting out the information that Melvin wanted shared, but remember: we have to keep a positive image for Grotians if we want to be taken seriously. Don't do anything rash.

I will try to be useful when I can. Forgive me for being what I am.

There is a leak here. It's spraying all over everything, if you know what I mean.

I found out when I went by the 12th floor this morning. It's all sectioned off. Ropes across the area, security all over each unit, guards at the entrances, the whole thing. They were looking for me.

There is only one problem: I do not live on the 12th floor. When meeting with Earl, I chose to use an empty unit on a floor I don't occupy. Good thing I did, because someone among us knows quite a lot and talks much too much.

Here's another problem: general feeling for the GU in the Proscription Zone is terrible ever since this weekend. We have a very negative image.

I can't stand up and lead our forces to victory like the king so many of you keep saying I am. I just can't do things like that.

But I can advise you on this. Improve your image. Improve our image. Let's be positive. Be a beacon of hope instead of a message of gloom and doom. This will get us more helpful attention than anything else right now.

While you are working on being productive members of society, however, do not forget that we must locate the sword. Someone took it in our name and has made us out to be thieves. Who knows what is being planned at this very moment...

We're a step ahead of them now. I chose wisely. You have provided me with information that is invaluable, and we are getting closer every day to putting a stop to the Grotian Underground.

Keep in mind that this dangerous group has stolen our most prized Proscript relic, the Sword of Flames. It is imperative that we locate this important piece of our Party's history before it is used for evil.

Based on your intelligence, I have sent teams to search the 12th floor of Purity Towers, but they have found nothing. It appears our Levi Waltershield is more crafty than we originally gave him credit for being. For now, allow him to continue to lead his people. Gather information from his directives and let him lead us right into his lair.

Regarding the soap delivery boy Earl DeRosa, several of you have suggested that we should arrest him because of his documented involvement in the Grotian Underground. Trust me in this: we want him right where he is. Someone with such limited intelligence is almost as useful as the smartest of spies. We should contact his friend Randy Porknut and recruit him to our forces as soon as possible.

It should be known that my best intelligence gatherers and Party supporters will be guaranteed placement in the luxurious Purity Towers later this week. If you have not yet sent in your applications, I hope that you will soon.

I will be in contact with you as often as I can be.

THE ENTIRE WEEKEND. ALL NIGHT AND ALL DAY. FROM THE MOMENT PRESIDENT JAMESON ANNOUNCED THAT THE SWORD OF FLAMES HAD BEEN STOLEN UNTIL EARLY MONDAY MORNING. THAT'S HOW LONG THEY KEPT ME. USING THEIR "ADVANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES."

I MUST HAVE LISTENED TO MY STUPID AUDIO SPOT PLAYING A THOUSAND TIMES IN THAT COLD ROOM. YOU KNOW HOW YOU FEEL AWKWARD WHEN YOU HEAR YOUR OWN VOICE? IMAGINE THAT FEELING, ONLY YOUR VOICE IS SAYING THINGS THAT ARE NEARLY TREASONOUS, AND YOU'RE IN A ROOM FILLED WITH AUTHORITIES, AND YOU HAVEN'T SLEPT IN TWO DAYS.

THAT'S WHERE I WAS THIS WEEKEND.

THEY GOT ARCHIE REBEL, TOO, BUT LET HIM GO SHORTLY AFTERWARD, WHILE I WAS FORCED TO SPEND THE NIGHT TWICE, ANSWERING QUESTIONS THROUGHOUT EVEN THE LATEST HOURS. THE EGOTISTICAL ACTOR WAS WORTHLESS TO THEM, BUT NOT THE NERDY BIOGRAPHER, FOR SOME REASON. MY VOICE RECORDING WAS MORE DIRECT, MORE SINCERE. HIS WAS SELF-OBSESSIVE AND MEANINGLESS. THEY SAW NO USE FOR HIM.

THIS WEEKEND MARKS ONE AND ONLY TIME I'LL EVER OFFICIALLY WISH I WAS ARCHIE REBEL.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ASKED HIM. BUT IN MY INTERROGATION ROOM, THEY WANTED TO KNOW WHERE LEVI WALTERSHIELD WAS, WHERE THE SWORD OF FLAMES WAS, WHO WAS A MEMBER OF THE GROTIAN UNDERGROUND, WHAT I KNEW ABOUT THE RESISTANCE, AND WHAT THEIR PLANS INCLUDED.

THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD GIVE THEM, AND EVENTUALLY – FINALLY – THEY HAD TO ACCEPT THAT. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW QUICKLY IT MUST HAVE BECOME CLEAR THAT ARCHIE REBEL WASN'T A SOURCE OF ANY USEFUL INTELLIGENCE.

BUT I WASN'T LET GO AS A FREE PERSON. NOT COMPLETELY. I USED TO BE A FREELANCE BIOGRAPHER WHO WROTE MAINLY FOR THE PARTY. NOW I WRITE FOR THE PARTY ONLY, AT THEIR COMMAND. IN ORDER TO PROVE MY ALLEGIANCE PUBLICLY, I HAVE TO PUBLISH SEVERAL ARTICLES ABOUT THE PERFECT, PURE, PLEASANT, PEACEFUL, POPULAR PEOPLE'S PROSCRIPT PARTY. I HAVE TO DO THIS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WILL DO IF I REFUSE.

I DON'T CONDONE THEFT, AND I HOPE I DO NOT KNOW THE PERSON WHO TOOK THE SWORD OF FLAMES. STEALING IS WRONG, EVEN IF YOU ARE STEALING FROM SOMEONE YOU OPPOSE. BUT I'VE SEEN SOME TACTICS AND SOME PERSONALITIES IN THE PAST FEW DAYS THAT HAVE TURNED ME COLD. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THE GROTIANS SEE WHEN WE'RE NOT LOOKING.

Very convoluted (and I think, broken) cipher

Method:

Vigenere using the key "key" to discover the key "purity"
The only way I could get meaning from it was to add additional letters to certain of the lines to make it rotate correctly through the ciphertext.

Have been trying to get information on where Edward Jameson is buried so I asked LOTI for assistance. He said:

"I don't believe there are any digitized records. It's all in the library. No way I can go there and ask for stuff about Edward Jameson without raising an alarm."

Also asked him to check out the fountain, and he replied, "I'll tell you if I see anything. It's a pretty normal fountain, though."

They're on to you. You HAVE TO be careful. They're not going to arrest you, they want you where you are. But that doesn't mean they won't try to get information out of you later. AND I think they're going to target Randy aswell. Like, turn him over to their side and try and use him against us AND you. I don't know what we can do about that. I'd love to think we could tell him and he'd see the light, but he seems pretty Pro-Party at the moment. I only hope they don't hurt him or anything. I wouldn't put it past them.

WE DIDN'T STEAL THAT SWORD Earl. It's not like ANY of us. All we want to do is make life better for the Grotians. Stealing and hurting people is no way to do that!

I don't know what to do. I've put you in danger. This is all my fault. If I hadn't brought this up you and Randy would be safe and everything would have been fine.

I know this because the Grotian Underground was working to help her escape. We failed.

The third truth you must know is that the Grotian Underground is and should always be a peaceful resistance to the Party's policies. No man involved in the formation or leadership of the group has ever advocated anything else. I have been a fearful and timid leader. Melvin, whose mailing lists I'm using now, was strong, honorable, and dedicated to peace.

The final, most important truth is this: unless we find a common ground on which to stand against him, the President, in his crusade, will kill many more Grotians and certainly consume the free will of an entire people. It is not unreasonable to think that Proscripts who are not sufficiently supportive will suffer, as well.

I understand that some of the people reading this will never join our cause, but I would not deny anyone the chance do what is right. And so, for that reason, I am changing the way the Grotian Undergound operates. The restricted flow of information and the culture of paranoia that I created have cost innocent lives. You will all hear from me now.

Our plan is simple. We will liberate as many Grotians from the Proscription Zone as possible.

If you still want to help us, reply in support.

If you want us to leave you alone, so be it. Reply to that effect.

 		So then, it seems that the Vanguard and the Grotian Underground *must* work together. Jameson is the enemy, not the Proscripts as a whole but the leader who is not only harming the Grotians but making the entire Party look bad. Well guys and girls, think we can all put everything aside and see this to a happy ending for all? Or will we all keep fighting about everything and not get anything accomplished?

 		I think as long as we're all on our best behaviour and mindful of eachother, we'll be sweet! I just want to know how we're going to go about liberating these Grotians! I mean, where will they go? Last time I checked their home land was still charcoal :s

 		I am sure LOTI has a plan, there has to be some place he has sent them. I am willing to be on my best behavior if everyone else is. So then, let us rally all our troups and free the Grotians from Jameson's crazy ass!
