Ok, ok. As this is technically my first ARG I've actively participated in, I'll chalk my misunderstanding up to inexperience.

I'll be neutral in this whole PM vs players issue from now on.

Apologies if I've offended anyone.

I'll still be playing to see how this turns out, however.

Got here via a google and took me a sec to recognize what a PM is, but it is kind of amusing to me seeing a debate about the sales acumen of a game that has done nothing other than try to sell one t-shirt that had a clue on it (as far as we know, g-d knows what these people actually may be selling) on a forum that has an ad for t-shirts on it. Ideally, aren't these people trying to provide entertainment? What if the game really is a social experiment? If that was its design from the beginning, is that so wrong? I'm entertained - @ least until Lost starts back up...

Oh don't be neutral, your opinion is very valid. Just because one or two people disagree with it, does not make it any less valid.

But basically it's true, this forum made angry the PM and he has done the same thing you've done. Now you're crying foul because its you in the picture, not someone else. Hypocritical really because all the players seem to think their immune from the GM/PM.

Meh, I'm just done arguing. People are gonna believe what they want, and I'll just let that be. For now Twisted Evil

This is a nice change of tune. We've had two sides, a logical argument, and it hasn't devolved into mutual hatefests. Razz

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Sorry if that came off as pretentious or something, I'm rather pissed about other things right now, too. Don't mind me. Really tired right now. Probably incoherent.

EDIT: As I've stated before, I'm of the stance that we all messed up here. Not sure who pushed who over the edge (we made the PM go crazy or the PM made us go crazy), but, yeah.

Disagree. I've been personally attacked by CB for, really, no reason. All I've done is try to calm things down so people can discuss things rationally without having a verbal slapfight.

All this added to the fact that I was insulted by someone based on an "us vs. them" attitude, when I explicitly stated that I couldn't really care whether this is the PM's fault or the Player's fault and that both sides have valid arguments.

@CB
Addressing your post line by line would be largely pointless. You flew off the handle at Nighthawk for giving a fairly accurate and dispassionate account of what has happened so far. He has been polite to you even after making 4chanesque personal attacks against him and other members of this community, of which he is a respected member. You singled him out even though he has remained in game through things that have caused other people to leave the game with a bitter taste in their mouths. What you are doing is not critique. You came out with your very first post on the matter with guns blazing including completely uncalled for statements about his career, intelligence, and personal worth. If you want to critique someone you can do that without acting in the inexcusable manner that you have.

As far as what you said about UF trying to dictate rules to the ARG community: you said the PM(s) of this game probably didn't know this community existed, but that is totally false. The fact of the matter is, unless I am mistaken, they contacted members of this community to bring initial attention to the game, and if that is true, it largely invalidates the rest of what you had to say on the matter. Your infantile diatribes are not to be confused with critiquing people. Please stop personally attacking people who have been many hundreds of times more helpful on this ARG than you, yourself, have.

I scoff loudly and with much harumphing at the ridiculous notion that Unfiction is attempting to control any game.

And then I wrote a whole lot more which I just erased, because really, the first sentence pretty much says it all for me.

So, here's some other text:

This place has been around a long time, through a lot of hard work and love. Dunno why people keep conveniently ignoring that in their quest to provide Teh Perfect Zinger to their thread-nemeses or whatever, but it's pretty clear that the internet is serious business. The yang could use a little bit of yin, however. A dash. A splash. BAM! Kick it up a notch, even.

Just, you know, there's a lot of people here who put a lot of effort into keeping this place running. They work politely, reasonably, with sincerity, and very very often so quietly that you don't even know they're there. We're all players and audience and potential superheroes of other universes, yeah?

Thanks for reading.

According to this: http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/6182/1250940990221.png, the whole thing is merely Patrick's PR action as he tries to make himself a name. But I guess he made it only worse.

I noticed this post seemed largely ignored, so I looked. Came across this:

http://www.qbn.com/public_choice/134256/

May not be looking in the right place, but I don't see the actual post that's captured in the png file, but it seems to somewhat verify its authenticity. There are a few other things to dig through there that may be of interest, mainly "homeostatic" asking what kind of flash is permitted on Facebook on May 10, 09.

http://www.qbn.com/topics/591765/

So, do we take this to (possibly, assuming this is the project referenced there,) mean that The Junsui Project is indeed merely a portfolio piece for Marckesano and nothing more? It would seem to explain why the PM seems to feel so free to do some questionable things, sabotage his own game, and generally not follow any kind of "rules" a player would expect from an ARG, if he's not actually answering to anyone trying to promote a product or movie, etc.

Thoughts?

I have the same feeling about it (the whole project as an art project or portfolio).

And - people, feel free to lynch and massacre me here - in this case I would like it.
I mean, I like anarchic art and subversivity. Think back to the days of Dadaists in the 1920ties: they offended the audience with non-standart exhibitions, they wanted to kick a* of audience in artistical meaning. And audience was actually about to destroy their exhibitions and to kick a* of these artists in the literally meaning.

I don't know, but I had sometimes the similiar feelings in our meta discussion, even if I didn't want to choice one party.

i get the distinct feeling that this was all planned from the beginning to get support for the MoT side.

the junsui posting people's name & info on forums caused enough of an uproar that there's now a select group of people that vehemently want to take down the Junsui, and just in time the MoT facebook shows up Smile

MoT, remember, is a small group of powerful/wealthy people.

so in MoT vs Junsui, who will have more power?
a small group of people who control a large amount of power, or a large group of people with more diffuse power between individuals?

I don't even care anymore. I just want to see this thing end or at least be able to participate. Or if not that then at least an announcement that the game is over since JJ seems to have stopped all contact on FB. I can't even get in touch with the captains I was talking to.

I'm rapidly beginning to agree with the camp of people who are digging the direction this game is going.

I think kadomony is exactly right about MoT being the culmination of the drama from the past couple of days. I think it's pretty obvious at this point that this game is designed to blur the lines between IG and OOG - indeed, it did come across as sloppy at first. Probably could have been done better too. Do we have any absolute proof that the guy who's information was posted on 4chan is not a part of the game?

I think that that there's a certain meta element to this game that DOES have rules - for example, every participant in the game thus far has been interacted with as their actual person. In this game, our characters are

Some people don't like the 'clique-y' way that information is being revealed. To a certain degree I agree with this. However - we've already talked about how this ARG seems to be dividing people into sides. The Junsui have already been quite clear about their 'alliances', but now that MoT has begun to develop more, it looks like there is now a clique for people who were rejected by the Jinsui. It's highly possible that more 'sides' are going to open up to fill these gaps so that everyone has a role to play.

Just my random theories on where this might go. I think that this game deserves one more chance. I'm beginning to suspect that everything is in fact going according to plan (on the PM's part). I've never really participated in an ARG before but I've followed some on UF before, like I Love Bees and This is my Milwaukee. this one is intrigueing me enough to get involved though Smile
