Surely enough cant be a game, ARGs have to have websites. Even with something as elaborate as this, is perhaps best to ignore.

That's not a steadfast rule, but I admit I have yet to see one that doesn't.

Maybe I'm wrong...
But I'm wondering if we shouldn't punch-up the Wikipedia entry for "Alternate Reality Game".

Mainly the part that reads,
Quote:
ARGs generally use multimedia, such as telephones, email and mail but rely on the Internet as the central binding medium.

In my lil' pea-brain, I don't want to accept that an ARG MUST have an "internet" component.

If the intent of that part of the Wikipedia description was to denote that the collaboration occurs on the internet, I can kinda see that (Okay, not really, but I want to be open minded.).

I looked through the letters again to see if there was anything interesting. The only thing I could find was that the photo misspells Cypress, Texas as "Cyprus", like the island. No noteworthy Google results for "Cyprus angels". "Cyprus aliens" gave me this, but I really have to doubt that is game related. I would have just written it off as a mistake, but something about the fact the there are zero Google its for anyone else misspelling it that way kind of have it stuck in my brain?

EDIT: Actually I just tried "Cyprus TX" and got a Mortgage company and some sort of holistic living website using that spelling. But still, worth keeping in mind maybe.

Since there is definitely a reality without internet, why shouldn't there be an alternate reality without internet Wink

If its a game I'd be in, if not, then you should keep digging and encouraging the manic ravings of a conspiracy theorist... because its fun.

Just noting there have been ARGs that have been told almost exclusively through letters before. Namely, The Committee for the Sedulous Amalgamation. There was also an interactive story a few years ago that relied on the post.

Now that I'm recovering from the fit of laughter...

I agree wholeheartedly that I'd much rather there be a website or at least an email address for this - I'm not entirely unconvinced there won't be one. That said, technically (provided this is a game and not just some psycho conspiracy theorist) the internet is still a component - this all started because he found my contact info online and now I was expected to "spread the word" so to speak. It's just not necessarily the primary method of furthering the story (at least not yet anyway).

Forgive me if I am wrong. I have only had a chance to follow along with a a few ARG's through completion and my impressions was always that this was one of the major ways to start these, of course it could be some lunatic in Texas but honestly does that not make 2 of the 4 pictures more exciting? Shocked At any rate i still think i will keep my eye on this one.

I would also like to see this evolve into a website at the very least. If this indeed is an ARG then mail could only be a first step.

I am curious, does anyone agree with the so far simple explanation of the the two pictures, that being the glory hole / dam and the "alien" / squid autopsy?

This is very intriguing, count me in definitely!

It's interesting how he seems to believe the dissection of the squid is the dissection of this 'creature' (which does look like some bony, floaty hand.)
But then, like plugs said, does this make squids angels? o.O or even singing, musical squid angels?

I will be keeping an eye on this thread from now on...

Interesting. Interesting indeed.

I would regard this as an ARG. The start originated from posting contact information here, for once. Moreover, the continous mention of ARGs could be meant to hint at this. The original squid picture hints even more at it being an organised ARG, even though it does destroy the game feeling a little.

Now, for those of us who have read Philip Pullman's book series "His Dark Materials" (or whichever was the last word), the thought of 'angels' being earthly explainable isn't new.

I'll keep watching this, but ain't mailing him from over the Pond.

One thing I would suggest is scans of the letters. There may be something in formatting that gets lost in translation. On a side note, can anyone explain the particular 404 @ theorder.org? Server error in application Temple of Evil? Probably nothing, but not a nothing I've encountered...lol, so am interested in it's meaning.

Interestingly enough, I tried that site too lol. I then tried templeofevil.com, same error. I don't think either sites are related to this, though, but they could be.
