He wanted him out of the picture.
Was the other person also at the circus?
Yes.
Was the other person also a dwarf?
Yes.
Was the other person jealous in some way?
Yes.
Would the other person have benefited from the incapication of the dwarf?
Yes.
If he would have benefited, would it have been financially?
Yes.
Did the other person saw (i.e. cut) more than one thing?
No.
Good job!
which could mean that the other dwarf wanted the other persons job in the circus so talked him into killing himself but just as a act and the sawdust could have cut him open and he bled to death and the other dwarf took his job
just a thought
....how would sawdust cut him open? It's just powdery.
The sawdust could have been somewhat sharp and cut his neck open or something

So Dwarf Evil wanted Dwarf Good out of the picture as he was jealous and would benefit financially....
Was Dwarf Good a bigger draw at the circus than Dwarf Evil?
Did Dwarf Good have some special talent that Dwarf Evil didn't have?
Was Dwarf Good more interesting to look at than Dwarf Evil in some way?
Was Dwarf Evil also blind?
Just to double-check, if Dwarf Good wasn't blind would he also still be alive today? Is the only reason he didn't see the sawdust because he was blind?

Were wooden stilts involved?
Was there a white (blind man's) cane involved?
Did both midgets work at the circus as performing artists?

Did evil dwarf saw through the good dwarf's cane?
Was the good dwarf more interesting to look at because of a deformity?
Was he blind because he'd lost, or been born without, his eyes?

He's blind. That's enough.

Was the good dwarf's deformity something other than his dwarfishness?
Or was he just smaller than the evil dwarf and hence more interesting?
Was the good dwarf's cane the only thing the evil dwarf sawed?
By sawing the cane was the evil dwarf trying to trick the good dwarf in some way?
After the sawing did the good dwarf believe he had lost his "extra interest" over the evil dwarf and hence would no longer be the star dwarf? Was it this that led him to kill himself?

Did he walk into something as the cane wasnt long enough?
Did he trip as a result of not seeing an object? (feeling it with the cane)
Is it all irrelivant as simply the fact that if he could see the sawdust he could see, and therefore wouldnt want to die as he could see how popular he was?

This reminds me of the elevator conundrum:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a short person needs to use a cane to push the higher buttons on an elevator panel --
we could extrapolate from that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
-- suppose he couldn't see the buttons and just used his cane to push the correct floor, and just assumed out of habit that his cane was reaching the correct spot; a sawed-off cane would put him in the wrong place, and danger might ensue.
The problem with this theory, to me, is that anyone who uses a cane would feel that it was shorter the moment it touches the ground; he wouldn't need to *see* sawdust to be forewarned.

I think it was Occam who used his razor to whittle on the cane of the handicapped, blind dwarf.

No, but you are asking two questions.
Did he trip as a result of not seeing an object? (feeling it with the cane)
No.

Well, the original clue is he would be alive if he had found the sawdust.
