You should give it a go. I was in the same position, with some of my friends talking about how good it was, but I'm not really into anime. Regular animation, hell yes, I'm a cartoon junkie, but a lot of anime is just too formula driven. But when I started watching Death Note, I found it to be addictive like woah. It's pretty impressive, I must say.

Hah, It's quite alright! I'm enjoying this immensely.
I also have to second TheAtroxious, Death Note is absolutely brilliant. It's one of the few animes I can watch.
