 Useful Tools
Some tools to make your hallucinine life a little less crazy.

I threw together a quick decoder/encoder script for Uno's number code.

How funny.. I also had created a PowerShell script to do the same thing! Very Happy

 WebCheckv1.ps1

Ok all,

http://amanojyaku.info/scripts/webcheck1

Here is a link to an article on my blog, where I posted my WebCheck script. Its a little PowerShell script to check a list of webpages for any changes. Script uses MD5 Hashes to compare the pages.

You will need the PowerShell v1 or higher console loaded on your machine. Sorry Mac users, but I do not think that there is a PS alternative for you. (Windows Only) Shocked

I am currently working on a version 2 of the script to use a SQLite DB instead of a text file. Very Happy

Mmdoogie gave me and Lionheart instructions for Amanoj's script so I will post them here.

Quote:
[16:46] <waitress2> hi doogie Smile
[16:46] <waitress2> do you understand how to use amanoj's script?
[16:47] <mmdoogie> i think so, but I haven't tried it
[16:47] <waitress2> where do you plug the script in at?
[16:47] <mmdoogie> first do you have windows powershell installed?
[16:47] <waitress2> no
[16:47] <waitress2> so it won't work/
[16:47] <waitress2> ?
[16:48] <mmdoogie> yeah, windows powershell is the program that runs the script
[16:48] <mmdoogie> http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/management/powershell/download.mspx
[16:48] <waitress2> is it free?
[16:48] <mmdoogie> yes
16:48] <waitress2> cool
[16:49] <waitress2> free is my price
[16:50] <mmdoogie> so you install that, put the code in a file called WebCheck.ps1, also download the websites.txt file from amanoj's page
[16:50] <waitress2> cool
[16:50] <waitress2> i will try it this weekend
[16:50] <mmdoogie> then you have to open a terminal window, cd to the directory its in, and run it as WebCheck.ps1 -sites website.txt
[16:51] <waitress2> hmm a terminal window?
[16:51] <waitress2> is that part of the shell program?
[16:51] <Munki> DOOGLE
[16:51] <mmdoogie> no, just part of windows... windowskey-r, type cmd and hit enter
[16:51] <waitress2> k
[16:52] <waitress2> wow i didn't know windows did so much
[16:52] <mmdoogie> then if you put it on your desktop, type: cd desktop
[16:52] <waitress2> k

[18:41] <Lionheart> Do you have any idea how to use the website powershell thingy that that dude posted?
[18:41] <mmdoogie> hehe yeah
[18:42] <mmdoogie> I explained it to waitress earlier, just a sec
[18:43] <mmdoogie> mmdoogie: first do you have windows powershell installed?
[18:43] <mmdoogie> mmdoogie: yeah, windows powershell is the program that runs the script
[18:43] <mmdoogie> mmdoogie: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/management/powershell/download.mspx
[18:43] <mmdoogie> mmdoogie: so you install that, put the code in a file called WebCheck.ps1, also download the websites.txt file from amanoj's page
[18:43] <mmdoogie> mmdoogie: then you have to open a terminal window, cd to the directory its in, and run it as WebCheck.ps1 -sites website.txt
[18:43] <mmdoogie> mmdoogie: no, just part of windows... windowskey-r, type cmd and hit enter
[18:43] <mmdoogie> mmdoogie: then if you put it on your desktop, type: cd desktop
[18:46] <Lionheart> Wow.
[18:46] <Lionheart> Anyway you can explain that in idiot terms?
[18:47] <mmdoogie> download and install the windows powershell software
[18:47] <Lionheart> I have powershell downlaoded and installed.
[18:47] <mmdoogie> download webcheck.ps1 and websites.txt from amanoj's site
[18:47] <Lionheart> alright hang on'
[18:47] <Munki> WHEEEEEEEEEEE
[18:48] <mmdoogie> stick them in a folder on your desktop
[18:48] <mmdoogie> open the windows powershell
[18:49] <mmdoogie> type: cd desktop/whatever-folder-naem
[18:49] <mmdoogie> then type WebCheck.ps1 -sites website.txt
[18:58] <Lionheart> when i webcheck.psl it says that it not a recognized cmledt or function
[18:58] <mmdoogie> its a number one in ps1
[18:59] <Lionheart> saying the same thing.
[18:59] <mmdoogie> did the cd command say anything?
[18:59] <mmdoogie> type dir and see if it lists the webcheck file
[18:59] <Lionheart> yeah that part worked i think.
[19:00] <Lionheart> ok hang on
[19:00] <Lionheart> it does
[19:01] <mmdoogie> try .\WebCheck.ps1 -sites website.txt
[19:01] <mmdoogie> been a while since i used powershell
[19:02] <Lionheart> is there a space in between any of that?
[19:02] <mmdoogie> between 1 and -sites; and also between sites and website.txt
[19:02] <mmdoogie> only two spaces
[19:03] <Lionheart> what! it says that the execution of scripts is disabled on my system.
[19:03] <mmdoogie> ah
[19:04] <mmdoogie> you need to run set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned
[19:05] <Lionheart> sigh access to the registry key denied or something.
[19:06] <mmdoogie> vista?
[19:06] <Lionheart> yea
[19:06] <mmdoogie> right-click the powershell icon from the start menu and hit run as administrator
[19:06] <mmdoogie> then run the set-Exec... command again
[19:06] <Lionheart> alright
[19:07] <mmdoogie> also, right-click on the .ps1 file you downloaded hit properties, then click the unblock button
[19:11] <Lionheart> now that i am signed in as admin it is saying that the file doesnt exist when i try cd desktop/filename
[19:15] <mmdoogie> oh, all you have to do as admin is the set-execution thingy
[19:15] <mmdoogie> then close it and reopen like normal
[19:15] <Lionheart> oh ok
[19:16] * Munki (chatzillaSPLATchat-solu-D1D6DEA5.hsd1.tx.comcast.net) Quit ( Ping timeout )
[19:16] <mmdoogie> lol this is so not easy to explain
[19:17] <Lionheart> sorry man. Works now though so thanks.
[19:17] <mmdoogie> awesome
[19:18] <mmdoogie> oh and if it says it finds something, it'll make a websites-new.txt file... so you have to delete websites.txt and rename websites-new.txt to websites.txt; otherwise it'll tell you about the change every time it runs
[19:22] <Lionheart> awesome man thanks. So does this thing update itself or what?
[19:22] <mmdoogie> what do you mean?
[19:23] <Lionheart> if adam changes a page, will this thing show that?
[19:23] <mmdoogie> if a page changes, it will tell you which page changed
[19:23] <Lionheart> interesting
[19:23] * Lionheart|Confused is now known as Lionheart|Better
[19:23] <mmdoogie> but you have to run it each time you want it to look

 Oops!

Aparently my little script has caused some confusion, eh? Very Happy

Sorry, not a true programmer. Just a IT Manager who uses PowerShell to automate a lot of things.

In my opinion, if it takes me longer than 5 min to do something, and I do it more than once... I usually put together a script to make my life easier. Who knew that some of my sloppy code would be so popular? Shocked

Thanks mmdoogie & waitress2! You guys are awesome!

I was shocked that mmdoogie figured out the websites-new.txt thing... then I remembered that he is actually a developer IRL! Kudos to mmdoogie! Very Happy

Shoot me a message or hit me up on ICQ if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Amanoj

voice mail to internet
youmail.com

It seems like using youmail.com would allow you to access and share your voicemail from online. Just thought I'd post it here.
Oh, and it's FREE....
