 Unforum Rebuild Status
Status updates on the forums rebuild after the 9/19 hacking incident

As you may know from the UF Status Page, the server that handles web requests for the forum was hacked yesterday and used to launch a flood of spam that overwhelmed our host's network. We've had to wipe the box and reload from scratch, and have installed a clean version of the latest update to the forums software, along with a few new mods that add some long-desired additions.

I'll be working as hard as I can over the next few days to replace as much of the added features we're now missing. Please note that as of this writing, none of the custom BBCode mods are in place and thus the Spoiler tags, along with others, are not working. Please do not edit old posts to remove the unworking tags.

All posts should be preserved, but unfortunately we lost the actual files attachments stored on the server that were uploaded in the last few weeks, so you'll see a lot of empty attach boxes in recent posts. If you still have original files, feel free to edit your posts to re-add them or ask a mod or admin for help.

Update September 21

The forums seem functional enough so we're about to open them back up. BBCode tags work again, so disregard that warning. Please post bugfix requests and usage questions here. There are quite a few new features and some reorganization of the layout and preferences controls, so poke around a bit. Smile

Please note that we have upgraded our base forums software, and this makes it more difficult to re-add some of our old familiar modifications and features. We thank you for your patience and continued support while we replace these.

Thank you very much to all the people who have been working tirelessly to get the forums back up and running. Particular thanks to SpaceBass and Spuds, but additional thanks to all those who also helped behind the scenes.

I'll echo that thanks!!!

Hopefully, those that brought the forums down will burn in the "special hell", yet it looks like you rebuilt them better than before.

Hey there, great to have it all back, was lost without the resource while it was down (and was worried that the threads etc would have been hosed).

I was wondering if/when RSS/Atom feeds would be available again, as I used them quite a bit to check for new/updated threads. No rush, just that they are quite useful.

I have two questions.

But fFirst, kudos. As a system admin fFor a social network of my own, I know the stresses involved in getting your neighborhood back up and running can be perilous to heartbreaking. Well done all round.

My questions are thus:
1) Are the RSS fFeeds not working? They seem to be gone, which makes me sad. May I request that they be put near something like the top of some kind of priority list? I tend to live and die by the RSS fFeeds, preferring to use uF based on the existence of them. No rss is a bit like no oxygen, fFor me.

2) Are the addresses of all the individual threads and fForums now different? I think they are, and it makes a kind of sense. Like the fForum previosuly identified as #18 is now no longer the 18th one made; that makes sense. I guess I'm just making sure it's not my imagination (and pointing it out to anyone else who might not notice, I guess) -- the implication of which is that anywhere any links to specific things on the fFora have been made would need to be changed to reflect a new location. fFor example, Mind Candy have linked to uF's PXC thread. That link will need to change. And sooo many others. Unless I'm mistaken.

Once again: Massive amounts of thanks to spacebass and everyone else at the unfiction hive. You guys make life worth living Smile (no joke!!)
