Yolk's on me...

By googling the 'Last Statue The cost of Admission is your Mind',
and hitting the "cache" mode, more weird stuff about this whatever
it is.

I remember Jayne Dennis from the Children's Tylenol commercial.

Or maybe it was Jane McGonigal--how soon we forget...

Laughing So the Pynchonopolis blog lies there since April with nothing but one link posted and then today suddenly comes to life. So hello PM's or authors or whoever!

There is some puzzley looking stuff:

Quote:

THE LAST STATUE ch. 2 (outline)

THE FORTUNE

CHESED

ASTEROPE/MERAK

JUPITER

TIN

KEY: A#

DECAN: VIOLET

PATH: NORTH-FORK WEST

"JUPITER GIVES WISDOM TO THOSE HE WOULD LOSE"

Some throwing down the gauntlet stuff:

You might have done the "El Centro", junior.

You might have even done the "Ong's Hat", newbie.

But I'll bet you never did the "Kenosha", kid…

(Kenosha kid is a reference to Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow)

And some map clues (I don't know how to search online via longitude and latitude)

"Give me the map…"

Mopani desert

93′ west longitude

232 LC

2 for Tuesday

"digital fates flash past fast"

"this is The Girl"

silencio!

No Hay Banda is a line from David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, and suggests there may be no real underlying structure or plot to all of this.

And this is posted twice:

Quote:

40 pills that will rock your world

Sarah Hannah: "Don't talk to me of loss, I bury pills in applesauce"

Hannah Wit: "I want to be eaten by worms"

Hannah Schneider: "Happiness is a hound-dog in the sun"

The full version of the last quote is: "Happiness is a hound dog in the sun. We aren't on Earth to be happy, but to experience incredible things." a quote from this book:

http://www.calamityphysics.com/main.htm

What we have is something complex and interesting, but no puzzles to solve and no more communication via emails. This line from a review of that book on Amazon describes my current feelings about Last Statue:

Quote:
But hunkering down for 514 pages of frantic literary exhibitionism turns into a weary business for the reader, who after much patient effort deserves to feel something stronger than appreciation for a lot of clever name-dropping and a rush of metaphors.

All hunt and no game, so far.

So Pessl's book has a plotline about trying to prove a suicide was not suicide. Her next book, says wiki:
Quote:

Pessl's second novel, Night Film, a "psychological literary thriller[...]about a New York filmmaker looking into an apparent suicide", will be published by Random House in Fall 2010.[4]

Sarah Hannah was a poet who committed suicide in May, 2007.
(I give up on embedding the next link) http://www.naturalburial.coop/2007/12/14/its-easy-being-green-when-youre-dead/
Hannah Wit died also in 2007 but not sure from what, but also in her early forties and she did say the line about being eaten by worms.

This also clearly references the suicide of Theresa Duncan, which topic nearly derailed the I'm Sorry arg.

So I wonder if the new postings are simply more of the same, clever riffing on dark topics with no overall plan or purpose (no hay banda). I think I may be the one who is sorry for bringing this up in the first place.

Edit: Hannah Wit was a suicide as well...did not read the whole article linked above.

From ch 2 of the Last Statue

"...coming out of the South end of Blackstone, take the forking
path toward Sulpher Springs...follow Quicksilver Ridge Creek on
the way out to the salt-flats, way down in Furnace Canyon...take the peacock trail out past the Cinnabar Ranch up on Red Crown Hill...
should bring you right into White Rock, where you need to look up
Leo Green at the Red Lion--he'll take you to Ruth the Gleaner and
Sally Manders who will in turn introduce you to Joachim & Boaz--
pillers of the community..."

black stones
sulpher
quicksilver
salt
furnaces
peacocks
cinnebar
red crowns
white rocks
green & red lions

are all alchemistic terms--ARG seems kind of simplistic
in this context doncha think?

Or like it is trying too hard?

Using alchemical symbols, surely this is not the first arg to do this? Did you ever read the Merlin Mystery by Jonathan Gunson? It contained a mystery to solve via pictures and text. (Beautiful illustrations). The whole thing was based on color, zodiac and alchemical symbols.
But you may be right.

played out already?

This page I think is the page alphonse was mentioning. The comments are long and almost indecipherable in places, as if this had been going on quite awhile already. Did we just miss it? Did it get resolved?

The two sets of "clues" don't completely match up. Here is from kidkenoma:

Quote:
THE FORTUNE

CHESED

ASTEROPE/MERAK

JUPITER

TIN

KEY: A#

DECAN: VIOLET

PATH: NORTH-FORK WEST

"JUPITER GIVES WISDOM TO THOSE HE WOULD LOSE"

and here is from the Untermuyer page:

Quote:
THE LAST STATUE by V. CINCO

THE BURBAGE

BINA

SATURN

LEAD

KEY-A

PATH:NORTH FORK EAST

HEXAGON COORDINATE: LCHTDJDHCMR

DECAN: GREEN

"SILENCE GOES FASTER BACKWARD" JEAN XXIII

"I have built a labyrinth…" -Ts'ui Pen

"Oulipians: rats who build the labyrinth from which they plan to escape" -Raymond Queneau

"History is a nightmare from which I am tryng to awake." -James Joyce

"This is not a game…" – Jeanine Salla

"Everything in the world exists to be in a book." -Stephan Mallarme

"This is not a novel." -James Wood

"Everything you know is wrong…" -Ts'ui Pen

Both start with a title and then both mention one of the Sephiroth on the tree of life (this is from Kaballah, but hopefully not of the Madonna variety). Then we have a planet and an element, but I don't know if those elements are related to the particular sephiroth or not. Then a musical key. Both also have a direction (like north fork west) and that could be meaning to navigate on the tree of life. But only one has the "Hexagon coordinate". They both have a "Decan" color. I looked up Decan and it is something to do with astrology with each sign being divided into three decans of ten days each but there is no color associated with that. Made me think of quarks, for some reason, though.

then you have the quotes. Jeaninne Sala is famous for being a character in the arg for AI ("the Beast"). Ts'ui Pen is a character in the novel "The Garden of Forking Paths" by Borges and so that also might explain the path lines above.

But what good are directions in a maze if you don't even know where the maze is? Also, the lack of Hexagon coordinates in one of these makes me wonder if these really represent consistent clues in a puzzle or just some argish sounding stuff.

So I found the full text of Liber 777 by Aleister Crowley and it is basically listings of all sorts of correspondences between places on the Tree of Life and planets, elements, colors, gods, and just about anything else you could imagine. I don't have any idea if these correspondences are unique to Crowley or sort of accepted by occult practitioners in general, but some of the correspondences listed on our two web pages can be found there.

Generally speaking, there are ten sephirah (I was saying sephiroths for the plural but I am getting educated here) and 22 paths among them. Easier to understand with pictures, so you can look at the pdf linked above.

So the Tree of Life itself might be the maze, but that is as far as I can figure out.

Hello, Steganonsaurus Rex!

I'm pleased to see The Last Statue receiving some attention, although I'm not convinced that it's an alternate reality game of the kind that is normally played in this kind of forum.

The first five chapters (so far) of TLS are a lightly fictionalized account of the intersection of occult and cultural and political forces in post WWII America. If you aren't familiar with this subject (and I certainly was not!) may I suggest some background reading:

The Ultimate Evil by Maury Terry
The Family by Ed Sanders
Unholy Alliance by Peter Levenda
Sinister Forces: The Manson Secret by Peter Levenda
Inside Laurel Canyon web series by Dave McGowan (http://www.davesweb.cnchost.com/)

It is unfortunate that a lot of work already done on The Last Statue in the comments section of the "dead blog" aforementioned has been lost or is hard to access.

But I agree completely with this assessment: TLS--and all of its appendages and forked paths--is a "densely packed labyrinth designed to change the world." It's philosophic depth of reference is remarkable (if you're impressed by that kind of thing).

Pretty lofty ambitions!

Were you involved before? Do you know who is behind it or if there are any other connected sites? Is it still going somewhere?

And if it is not an ARG, how do you "play" it, or is it simply about the story itself?

Any insights appreciated. Very Happy

Hmm, every time a new person posts, the Pynchonopolis blog updates.

So we have a very short one titled "Precognition":

Quote:
ELEGANT VARIATION: ALL SANITY ABANDON YE WHO ENTER HERE

And then another puzzley one called Last Statue Chapter 3 (outline) (does this mean the liber 777 Kaballah thing is a "hit"?)

Quote:
THE RED BULL

GEVURA

CELAAENO/PHECDA

MARS

IRON

KEY-C

DECAN: RED

PATH: SOUTH FORK-WEST

"A SINGLE GLASS OF WATER LIGHTS THE WORLD"
–JEAN XXIII

I am having real issues with the forum right now...the columns getting messed up, unable to scroll correctly. Sorry.

so anyway what I was trying to say is that obviously each of these "outlines" corresponds with the chapters. I don't see how they match up but that is what the posts are implying.

Hi, Steggy (may I call you Steggy?):

Was I involved before? Well, I found it through the "dead blog", and found it fascinating (still do), and posted a lot of comments there.

Do I know who's behind it? I wish! Very Happy

How do you "play" it? "this is not a game" is the best I can muster.

Yeah, it's like the forum is cursed! I didn't mean to submit so abruptly...

What I mean by "this is not a game" is that I don't think the author's point is to have those who wish to interact with TLS, etc. follow from a point A to a point B and so forth until a big reveal.

Where, if you don't mind my asking, is the name "Theresa Duncan" on either "kidkenoma" or "untermuyer pages?

Am I like dim, or just underinformed?
