For the location, I did a bunch of research on the clues earlier and posted on the forums on the NING over there so in the interest of being efficient I'm just going to copy and paste. Very Happy

Quote:
Since the revealed symbols have numbers next to them I don't think that we're going to be crossing these off, since using them as a key seems to make a longitude and latitude. If you notice on the left side towards the bottom the circle with an arc over it is a "." and appears only twice, once on the left and once on the right, third from the bottom and fourth from the bottom respectively, in longitude/latitude format. This, combined with the fact that it's supposed to lead us somewhere seems like its on the right track.

Using the substitutions given already as well as the number from the teddy bear, it looks like it gives us (reading bottom to top, left then right):

2 _ . 5 _ 2 _ _ _
- _ 1 . 2 3 _ _ 2 1

I was playing with the numbers a little more and really the only way that the point could be anywhere other than in the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico is to have the most common symbol be 8.

Assuming that, that leaves the point in Orlando, giving an updated longitude/latitude of:

28.5828 _ 8
-81.23 _ _ 21

Further assuming symbols don't repeat themselves, that means the symbol on the cork is either 4 6 7 9 0, and the mystery symbol is also 4 6 7 9 0. That leaves 40 combinations altogether. I'm going to be looking each of these up for a while but if the key on the cork can be found that'll make things a ton easier.

Tony Stevens then informed me that the cork could be 0 (red outline around the symbol)

Quote:
Good call, Tony. If we were to assume that the cork is indeed 0, that leaves us with:

28.5828 _ 8
-81.23 _ 021
(Where _ can be 4 6 7 9)

which is a list of locations on a suburban neighborhood called "Riva Ridge Trail".

Most of the variations would end up somewhere on the street itself with only a few variations on people's lawns. 28.582848,-81.234021 does, however, point almost directly at the house at the end of the street.

This was before the pictures so perhaps the house is incorrect but the neighborhood does look kind of like the pictures.

Given who is behind this, my guess is that that is somewhere on or near the Univ. of Central Florida campus...

^ I would agree with that.

And notice how he says, "Happy trails." Those paths most definitely look like bike/recreation trails.

Just recieved this photo from Harvey Firestone:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Burke,

My name is Harvey Firestone, and I represented Evelyn Crane. I've had issues finding a working method for getting these pictures out to the people she specified. I was also busy setting up my new office out of my apartment when I was forced to relocate to my sister's garage. I'm sorry about how late these are, and hopefully this will be the end of my involvement with my client's business.

I've sent 6 different pictures out, I have no idea what they're for, or what they indicate. Quite frankly I'd rather not know so I can move on with my life.

Happy Trails,

Harvey Firestone

I don't really understand what is going on in this game anymore -- there are too many characters to keep track of and I can't tell who is IG and OOG -- but apparently some objects were dug up at that location in the pictures and they included a note from Evelyn:
Quote:
"If you've found this, then it means my faith in my fans was well placed. This item is of vital importance, and will be required by my associate to locate the instrument through which we will fulfill my long desired dream.

407-965-2757

This is the phone number of Mr. Terrence Holmes, I trust that he will be interested in assisting you. Please reach out to him and tell him what you've found. If he requires further proof, tell him that this object belonged to one Maynard Greaves. That should earn his interest, if not trust."

So last night some people met with Terrence Holmes and they ended up having a seance but Mr. Holmes had a heart attack or something:

And no one really knows what happened.

It is indeed dizzying in it's scope and incredibly difficult to find any new developments or things of interest. I partly attribute that to the Ning site, which I find very hard to use and a poor "main door" to the ARG.

My interest is waning because I have not received anything of interest (in letter, package, or e-mail form) even though I have tried to contact various people.

My main gripe here, is that the devs were thinking locally and inviting globally. I really don't feel a part of the story, at all, despite attempts at interaction. Marble Hornets is more interactive than this, for me, and we're not even dead sure that's actually an ARG, rather than some guy's creepy film project. I'm bloody *lurking* that one, and I've got more game.

The sign-up process should also have closed, as soon as the game actually began, as this is the sort of thing it's very hard to step into, once it's already going. It's themed and time-dependent, and we're just not getting enough data, out here in the boonies. (Or, should I say, out here in the 'not the six people who got stuff in the mail'.)

Awesome idea, poorly executed.

Am personally enjoying every aspect of this including the latest Weekly Scandal Youtube Video report from the Seance.

Another email from Melissa Lawson:
Quote:
Time: October 29, 2009 from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
Location: Apopka, FL
Organized By: Melissa Lawson

Event Description:
The seance last night resulted in some very useful information. Mr. Holmes was able to channel Maynard Greaves, the auctioneer who sold The Dark Chapter from The Palace vaults.

Apparently a an original copy of this film still exists, and it is located somewhere in Apopka, FL. He also said that Thursday at 7:30PM is the best time to get the reel.

Mr. Holmes collapsed before he could communicate the full address, but Meredith Crane has promised more information as soon as he wakes up.

Stay on your toes and keep Thursday evening open if you can. Maybe we'll finally be able to watch this classic movie again.

So yes, they are still keeping this *very* local...

There's an Update article at The Weekly Scandal with two new Seance videos. Also, an email arrived from my contact at Silver Crypt Studios which supports both Holmes' claims and Meredith's good character.

Betty Walker wrote:
Dear Chelsea,

I am so sorry, we seem to have gotten behind in our emails. The old Studio has certainly seen better days, and to be frank we are mostly a staff of at-home volunteers these days. I have very high hopes that we will be able to turn things around and build a new start for Silver Crypt Studios when we locate The Dark Chapter.

To answer your questions about who I am - well, today this address is being looked after by me, Betty Walker. Occasionally Mr. Staxon answers the emails instead, so we just thought it was best to remain nondescript.

Your newspaper, The Weekly Scandal, has been asking questions about Mr. Greaves as well. I don't personally care for that David Bishop, but you have been so nice and so supportive that I do trust you. From what I have been able to find, Mr. Greaves was very eager to leave The Palace Theater. He claimed that the movies occasionally came to life, and he was terrified especially of the projection room. Of course I don't believe any of these old ghost stories, but Evelyn was always much more superstitious than I am.

As a Weekly Scandal staff member, do you have any idea what happened to Mr. Holmes after the seance on Sunday? I am so worried, and frustrated that suspicion is being shifted to Meredith. She was such a sweet girl and I can't imagine she did anything wrong.

Am also hoping that there are "real time" updates on Thursday and Friday at least via Twitter and Twitpics. Geek

I agree. I was jazzed when, during the sign-up process, they asked "Are you willing to go to live events," and "Are you willing to receive things in the mail?" Little did I know that all live events would be in Florida (I'm on the opposite coast!), and the only think I'd get in the mail was an Evelyn Crane postcard from Silver Crypt Studios that has little to do with anything.

I kinda assumed that when I realized that it's an ARG based around promoting a Florida-based theme park. In general since live events are hit and miss (nobody cares for Sacramento except EE (edit: and IHC apparently)! :p) I am more interested in the story and the interaction aspect. As long as those flow we're good. Smile

New Weekly Scandal Video showing the aftermath of the fans' sucessful "borrowing" of The Dark Chapter film reel. "callummarsh " provided real time twitpic updates & will do the same at today's Memorial. All quite exciting and funny imo. Laughing

So apparently I will get something (eventually...)

Should be interesting to see!

Quote:
Hi everyone; apologies for keeping you in the wings on the results of this community event. I was waiting on Duncan to get back from his travels to finally choose a winner. He's spent the last two weeks chasing leads from a Canadian film distributor that possibly knew the whereabouts of some original copies of our earliest films. However, no luck this time. I am sure Duncan will keep the hunt alive nevertheless.

So, after a great meeting with him this evening, Duncan has chosen a winner.

*Drum Roll*

Duncan has chosen .... Everyone! You read correctly, everyone wins! Normally Duncan would feel obligated to choose a winner, but he explains, that the event was community based and that everyone should receive something from Silver Crypt Studio as appreciation.

So, if you've reading this and you participated in the this event, be sure to confirm you address with me at edwardstaxonSPLATgmail.com to receive your prize.

Warning, it may take us a few weeks to get these all out, but be sure your efforts will be acknowledged.

I don't understand what this game is doing. Has this now just become a web video series? Are we supposed to be interacting with these folks? What was the point of giving us all these random characters? Why am I only finding out about things like the callummarsh vids and pictures and events after the fact? Bleh.
