You're saying that your Perl commands worked? Is there anyway you can send another string to try and get it back up? Or maybe download any information we could use?

Hahah! I think you may have set a record! Fastest unintentional, premature end to an ARG that hasn't even officially started yet!

Wow, that's quite a title, we'll have to come up with an abbreviation to fit on the trophy.. R.I.P.

There's a lot of names being thrown around and not much info about them.

-Shanna's "Chris"
-Craig's "Valentina (Vita)"

And now we have a guy named Rashid who works for Microsoft.

We need more info.

Sounds very familiar. I mean, back in I'm Sorry, how many times did we hear Arlen Rage's name being thrown around before we really figured out who he was?

Patience, young padawan. d: First things first: we need to fix this relationship with Craig...

First things first, why do we think that the relationship is broken? I think it's fine, and simply needs a bit of time. it's how guys work things out.

take care

Also forgot to mention this: I sent a email to "randomaddressferqjfi@sunshinemine15.com", on a hunch, and sure enough, they seem have a catch-all aliaser kinda thing going on, where any emails you send to the sunshinemine15 domain redirect. I think.
Anyways I didn't get a bounceback email from the address.

Man, I disappear for a few hours, and everything goes to hell... haha, kidding. Razz

Anyway, I would assume that if there was something wrong with IRIS, Craig would say something about it. Although, now that I think about it, if he was telling the truth and IRIS really is a system that hasn't been created yet, maybe not.

Anyway, if IRIS really is shut down, she wouldn't be able to continue accepting commands, would she? She'd have to be manually powered back on, right? I know absolutely nothing about remote commands, but I would assume that if it's off, someone needs to press the power button.

Though I must say, I did laugh out loud when I read IRIS's response to the command. I love all of the jumbled syntax that she spits out! Laughing

Yeah, she would need to be manually powered on if she was completely shut down...I had hope she hadn't yet because of this line:

But I guess shes completely shut down. Sad I wonder if there is a code in that long string of numbers...

Anyways:
<META>I shouldnt have been able to remotely shut her down anyway, not without root access...not to mention my code was completely out of context and not completely correct. I put alot more work into the code to turn her back on and try to download any relevant files, but it just bounced back Laughing Sad </META>

So IRIS reacts to dirty-hacked Perl code, eh? Well, good to know our man Craig ain't using heavy and big proprietary code or weird stuff no-one knows. Or maybe the PM is just being a little "nice" with us, and make her accept whatever kind of readable code we submit.

Now, if she really is totally shut down, it could still be possible to bring her back up, if we are lucky with her configuration. There's something called "WoL" -- "Wake on LAN/Activity". Basic and old BIOS function for powering on a computer when it receives network connects. Don't know if it'll help here, though.

My first thought to the bounce message from IRIS, was that the "[message18874.98.15]" part was an IP address, but it looks unrelated to me. What's a "regional OIT"? Confused

I suggest that if Craig cheers up some, tell him you managed to make her accept some Perl code (or maybe exclude that; he might get an outburst d: ), that she's shut off, and that we need/want her back on.

Office of Information Technology?
Office of Industrial Technologies?
Office of Instructional Technology?

or this is going to turn out to be the disaster we'll have to save them from. until now they were all going about their days ignoring the little information leak and the malfunctioning sauce packet dispenser. then we shut down their life support. Twisted Evil Very Happy

That's a good thought, one that I had considered. I realize my reply to him was pretty harsh, but this is an ARG and we're all playing characters of ourselfs. Fortunately/Not that's how mine reacts to perceived attacks. But I did leave it open for him to re-establsih contact with us, once he has calmed down a bit.

As far as Iris goes, I've started to get the impression there are either times of th day that she wil accept communication, she truly denying for reeasons of her own. Depending on the content of the email. But I haved't been able to catch exact times that it worked, and times that it hasn't. I know I'm going to hate myself for this Reference, but - it's like Stargate. Where once the Stargate is open, it allows radioo communication back and forth. When it's close.... not so much...?
