Change of the page to the server stacks pic and the song, Uninvited.

Also went back and looked at the Tokyo/Web map. The "How It's Used" section seems to add some insight into the "Sun Mine Map" we have and imho, reinforces some of y'all's thoughts on it.

Kewl find, fernandocarulli. Looks like "37°" in my source code. And 37 degrees Celsius = 98.6 Fahrenheit (normal body temp.)

Okay, so I sent Craig an email basically requesting his permission to be friends with Shanna, because his intervention was getting so ridiculously out of control, I decided to try something equally ridiculous!

But he finally responded:

Quote:
Courtney,
Your e-mail caught me off guard and initially made me very angry. But then I slowly began to realize that I have been so focused on my projects that I had lost sight of my daughter. You are right and I am changing everything. I sold a majority share of my work to Fred, and Shanna and I are leaving. As you know, all is worth nothing if I lose the last couple of years that I have with her - as I lost the last couple that I had with Liz. You have helped me immeasurably and I am indebted. Shanna wishes for us to create a travel "blog" - although I am loathe of such things - I will let you know if we do.
Most sincerely,
*C

Soooo... anyone seen any references to a blog lately? Interesting that he's decided to drop his life's work for his daughter--something just as important, but interesting nonetheless.

Has anyone taken a really good look at Shanna's profile pic on Twitter? Is it just me, or does she appear ... suspended? Like she dunked her head into a bucket of water and someone took a picture - or.... that there is a lack of gravity..?

I would say she's sitting before some kind of sink in a bathroom or in a bathtube ...

I agree with that in terms of what the background looks like - but notice the sunglasses on her head? It also looks like she's holding her breath.. I dunno - maybe I'm making something out of nothing. Quite frankly CR's response has my head spinning and I'm still trying to "wrap my grape around it" Laughing

I actually think it looks like a wig, zoom in on the top center, looks like the real hair is cut to the nub.

The picture could have been a clue. Maybe it was a doctor's office or lab.

Huh... Well, if Craig is dropping all of his work to spend time with his daughter, does that mean that the course of time has been changed? Does Craig no longer have a hand in the creation of IRIS?

Yeah, that's what I took from that. Funny that she never mentioned it, but I guess if I had a terminal disease, I probably wouldn't talk about it to complete strangers on the internet that I just met.

Wait, if CR drops the project to spend with his daughter - that would ultimately mean Iris is never built - which would explain as to why Iris isn't sending emails any more (at least so far as I'm aware).

As to CR spending more time with his daughter "the last few years" - I didn't read that as Shanna being terminally ill -but more I read it as he found out something terrible is going to happen in the next few years, that would finally put an explanation as to why we are mining the sun, etc...

highly plausible, however that does not account for the reference to wasting his last few years away with his wife. i believe his wife to be tantamountly important. how did she die? is it related to shanna? is it related to iris?

i believe we could both be correct in this case. whatever killed his wife is killing shanna, and it is somewhat related to the global catasrophy of which he has just learned. conjecture!

I tried dropping an email to Iris, trying to get some more info about Station 15's status and so forth, well now - instead of the obvious fake "bounce" back from the mail servers, I got a genuine "Google couldn't deliver this message as the email address doesn't exist" or something like that. But I've seen returned emails through Gmail before - and this is it. I think that Iris's account is off. I think that may have just lent some credence to my theory..

honestly, i think another of my theories is the most likely:

bricker is a fan of manifest destiny. i have alwahs think he is ad libbing the story as it goes alone, sort of a biproduct of our conversation. in essence he loosely structures a story and allows our speculation to guide it.

if this is a true ARG then the pre-game, which we are in, is a perfect opportunity to engage in this sort of behavour.

I was thinking the same thing as you were Wulf, but I thought that he said that he had already built the computer with fluid memory (i.e: the toaster that downloaded the internet). Wasn't that IRIS? If so, she already exists, but Craig is no longer caring for her. Perhaps she is discovered by someone else, or maybe she's been pawned on someone else. Or maybe I've got my facts mixed up (most likely).

I agree with Syn as well: From my read-through and short participation in I'm Sorry, it definitely seemed to me that the story was evolving. It wasn't being laid out for the players; the players were shaping the alternate reality. Perhaps IRIS was not meant to go down, but now she has, and so the game will compensate for that. Exciting!

As for me, I don't believe that she's really gone. I think whatever time link that was allowing us to communicate with a computer from the future has closed, and that's why her email is gone. I wouldn't be surprised to see her pop up again later.

Change of picture to the yellow space station walk and back to Creedence.

The code this time has 22' so maybe the 37 degrees was longitude and latitude.

37 degrees 22 minutes oddly enough is only 2 degrees latitude from where I am in Bakersfield, California at 35 o 22'

And after some research if it is latitude and on Earth it would be smack dab in the middle of Sierra National Forest (of course it is a long line).

From a purely in-game perspective, I have a few other ideas about why we might have stopped hearing from IRIS...some of them are a little space-time paradox-y, though. Smile

1) I got the impression that Craig was genuinely surprised that IRIS was somehow sending messages through time. It could be that calling his attention (and Fred's) to this "feature" caused them to program related bits differently, thus resulting in IRIS not being able to do that. Then, voila, no more IRIS for us.

2) If one prefers a parallel time-stream theory, maybe IRIS will be shut down in the "real" ARG when it starts - either by evildoers or by us - and that has "happened" in the future - so no more IRIS for us.

3) IRIS had some pretty obvious affection for Craig and Shanna. Maybe she's mad at him for leaving her.

4) Maybe Fred just figured out how to shut her down.

Alternatively, it could be IRIS has nothing at all to do directly with the main ARG, and the Sunshine Mine is a nearer future than we previously believed...and all of this is just a way to introduce the main themes of the ARG subtly.

Change of pic to the lightning over a city (tesla looking) and the music is the repeat of Metallica.

New in the code is: 20.38"

Put it all together and you get 37 degrees 22 minutes and 20.38 seconds.

Added: That equals this number in latitude 36.37238333333333 and a negative 37 degrees ,etc. just makes that same number negative.
