For what it's worth, I also received that same email. I can't believe I totally forgot about this starting in 2010. Now I gotta sift through 30 pages of stuff. @_@ IT'S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT.

P.S. Mentions of Houston and Bakersfield? I feel like someone's stalking me. >O

That's definitely a room key envelope, the kind that hotel's give you when you check in.

The room number is 1413, there's no closing line.

Wait....we're gonna have a drop THIS early in the game?

Maybe the cell phone + room key in the last pic ( where did that come from? ) is a hint -- a 10 digit hotel phone number + a four digit room number/extension would be 14 digits?

ETA: My email to iris just bounced, too.

ETA2: Oh, I see the pic now. Embarassed

Obviously if it truly was just a 14-digit code in base 10 the odds of guessing it would be 10^14. 14! is the number of different ways of combining the digits from 1 to 14. So, a few possibilities: one, Iris made a mistake. Given how intelligent Iris appears to be, that seems unlikely in the extreme. Two, Iris (or someone) is intentionally throwing us off the path or means something different or is just confused. This also seems unlikely since she's shown little predilection for lying, and although she does spit out random things they usually seem to be correct. Three, the code is just an *ordering*: there are 14 elements and the authorization code is just the order of those elements. In other words, the numbers 1 through 14 in some order.

Alex discovered earlier that we are looking for only numbers, so no letters or special characters. If we were to find 14 unique numbers, some of them would be two digit numbers (10-14). Each of these numbers has two characters, which I would assume would screw up the character count, so I'm thinking that a mistake was made somewhere.

This is, of course, assuming that the count is based on characters, and not strings. If that's not the case, then the puzzle gets much more complicated. In other words, I have contributed pretty much nothing with this post, haha Razz Can someone think of a way to ask Iris in code-speak whether she's looking for integers or strings? I guess we'll have to wait until her email is back up, though...

EDIT: Looking at the sunshinemine15 site, I noticed a few things in the source. I'm not very good with HTML, but from what I read, it looks like there's a flash movie defined somewhere in the page. Also, I think the image at the bottom is titled "shanna.jpg". Maybe Shanna's still around too? Can someone who was talking to her before try emailing her?

What do you mean with "ask Iris in code-speak whether she's looking for integers or strings" ? Since she's only after numbers/digits, there's no difference that I can see? The length was determined to be 14 characters, I reckon.

The "Flash movie" is what is used for playing the background music for the website. The picture has already been commented.

If you have anything you want me to email her with, that I can comprehend, I'll be glad to Smile

Sorry, haha I wasn't really sure how to put that. What I meant was that obviously we are supposed to supply Iris with 14 numbers. She seemed to hint before that the number of possible answers was 14!, which suggests that each entry needs to be unique. There are not 14 unique integers with only one digit, which means that each element must contain more than a single digit. But, if each element is meant to hold only a single digit, then they can't all be unique, and the number of possible responses is not 14!, but 10^14, as has been stated previously. This suggests that either Iris made a mistake or we interpreted something incorrectly.

I guess what I'm wanting to ask Iris is if she's looking for a single digit in each element, or possibly several. I was originally assuming that each element would be a single digit, but now I'm not so sure.

As for the source, yeah, you're right about the music. My computer's muted, so I completely forgot about the music being played, haha Embarassed I meant that the picture was labeled "Shanna." I guess I was the slow one who didn't pick up that that was her until I saw the name, haha sorry!

My gut feeling says its not that complicated, we "just" need some number we saw somewhere already ... Sadly Iris accept any queries anymore, at least yesterday, so I'll try another one like

Authorization query = code contains date true/false

or something like that ... Smile

EDIT: Still no response, just autobounce, grrr

Yes, she was his wife. She died some years ago; apparently she fell for the same terminal illness as the one that got Shanna.

Seems IRis is having one of her downtime periods. The time gap doesn't seem to be totally failsafe. Which isn't really all that weird, seeing as it's incidental (to my knowledge anyways).

I didn't know H1N1 was prevalent "several years ago".

Struck me too as I was writing that. Yet it is what I recall from Craig's emails.

It's certainly not hard to die from the flu (which is all H1N1 is) if not properly treated, or if sick from something else, or if very old or very young. It would be extremely unusual for an otherwise-healthy teenager to die from it while receiving treatment. As for the several years ago thing, I guess it hinges on semantics, but its generally accepted that H1N1 broke onto the scene early 2009. So this is either a mistake, an exaggeration, or some sort of time-related oddity (which there seems to be plenty of to go around). Or it could just be that he meant "the flu in general".
