Portal Through Time

Okay, this is a quickie, as I am swamped... But as a BtVS diehard, thought I'd add this in case anyone missed it;

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Portal Through Time
Author Alice Henderson
Copyright 2006, Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 978-1-4169-1918-6

Synopsis;
Buffy thought she killed The Master, but in Sunnydale things have a way of coming back. One of The Master's accolades is trying to alter the past by creating a time portal to turn back time and undo The Masters death. By changing the past, the future also changes. This puts some of the most exceptional historic Vampire Slayer's lives at risk. Xander Harris, Willow Rosenberg, Buffy Summers and Rupert Giles go back through the portal to save the lives of the past Slayers, and to try to prevent The Master from living past his first attempt at coming to earth, and starting teh earthquake that traps him under Sunnydale.

Side story, in case it matters (some of this I'm fuzzy on now):
Angel (as Angelus the Evil) was the first in the Buffy-verse to successfully try to bring back The Master (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Master_%28Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer%29). He was working with Drusilla and Spike (William the Bloody) at the time. Angelus dug up the ritual to summon him back into this world, because The Master was trapped in a portal between the demon realm and earth.

Spike went to Buffy for help to stop Angelus from raising The Master, because a) Angelus was getting too chummy with Spike's girl, Drusilla and b) Spike likes chaos, but doesn't like changes to his status quo.

Potential Theory:
There is obviously something going in with this book, or the ideas in this book, for it to be so prominently displayed in the "evidence" for Shanna and Craig's death. The subject of portals in time, going backwards to save someone and that when you change the past, you change the present are obvious. Somehow though, I think names and situations may also be relevant, but I haven't gone through all 30+ pages in this thread to know how they might fit. BTW - the fictional city of Sunnydale is usually placed near Silicon Valley in California, which while not San Jose is just about adjacent to where San Jose is located. Usually SUNNYVALE, CA = the city of Sunnydale, CA located in the Buffyverse.

Edit for: couple of clarity points added.

I didn't forget -- nothing else is working, and as we've seen, IRis can, and will, interpret things differently than we do. It's worth a shot, at the very least, though I doubt it will work.

That's not what I meant -- I meant IRis may have misinterpreted our query, or that we may have misinterpreted her answer. It doesn't seem likely, looking back at the query, but in the interest of completeness...

ALSO, I feel as though we should really be looking into how to submit that code to the Tesla Tower Battery...

There is also a lot of interesting info in that email: Nikolai Verve is a Driller on Platform 15, which has suffered damage due to a Cat 5 flare.
I'm not sure what a Cat 5 flare refers to...perhaps a solar flare? As we know, Cat 5 hurricanes are the most dangerous, so it would be logical to assume that a Cat 5 Flare would also be the most dangerous, and there has been talk about how some people are worried that a solar flare, in conjunction with a CME burst from the sun, could kill a lot of people...( http://www.articlesbase.com/environment-articles/solar-flares-347611.html is a bit of a sensational take on the issue, but I saw something about it on the discovery channel...)

I received an authoirzation failed email in response to the code sent to Tiffany. BTW, the Buffy ISBN didn't work either.

Maybe we should try having Iris forward the message to Des Moines. Maybe if we ask real nice in "code speak".

Anyway, here's the response again:

ETA: I think IRis just told me she's not going to accept any more of my questions, lol Smile

-------- Original Message --------

RETURN ALL = Information related to "Authorization"

Forgot to respond to this! Sorry.

First off, I don't know that means that a telephone number couldn't be part of the authorization code, I think it just means that the authorization code in of itself is not exclusively a telephone number, in the same way that my response meant there could be elements of a telephone number contained within the code.

Second - that doesn't look to me like IRis wont be accepting any more of your questions, first we have this:
Code:
//manualtempoverride

Which appears to stand for a Manual Temporary Override, causing any queries related to the Authorization to be automatically denied:
Code:
//**Automatic.Denial.Of.All.Queries.Referencing."Authorization" = true**

causing the system to reboot.

Hopefully you didn't kill a bunch of innocents, like i did earlier on! ;]

Anyways, this seems like it could have something to do with the threshold trigger I activated a bit ago (I swear IRis hates me):
Quote:

Partial.Query.Accepted
Assigned:relay99283
PROCESSING. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

EXERPT: IRis CenturionOS Operations Manual / Help Files
Threshold.Trigger
Threshold triggers are commonly used as perimeter settings in your IRis security suite. As Queries or Code entries near the maximum number allowed, IRis will activate the Threshold.Trigger sequence which will do two things:
(1) Automatically alert the IRis Security Department on planet, and
(2) Begin locking down the system peripherals in anticipation of an attempted intrusion.

//autosend//

Hopefully this doesn't mean that any and all authorization queries, including passcodes, are automatically denied. That looks like one possible translation though.

Okay this is weird.

I tried this:

Quote:
IRIS.Language = Plain Text

To see if we could just address her in English rather than this pseudo-MySQL we've been using.

Got this in return:
Quote:
//error//Logic//error//

So just to see if I could get an answer without using this pseudo-code, I sent IRis this:
Quote:
May I call you Elizabeth?

Got this back just now:

It would appear so...try sending commands to it, see what happens. Just something simple of course, don't want to shut it down again and kill off anyone left alive on there, do we?

If it is though, i'd say the programmers have left a major design flaw in there. Y'know, call it Elizabeth, have full access to the systems command prompt. Think i'll try doing the same myself. Wink

EDIT:

Sent an email off, got one back

Well I tried sending a simple "file list" command, just to see something that could give us some advantage.

Just got straight up denied.

Then I tried to access the Help file, but I think I forgot the syntax.

And then just now, I got this back:

ошибка is Russian for "Error"

Got a response back last night (Just after i'd gone to sleep...typical Razz). Whoever i'm in contact with through Iris doesn't know who they are, or where they are. Just asked what they see around them, hopefully that will give us some clues.
