(hi. will be lurking/playing this as time permits.)

this is probably obvious by now, but it wasn't explicitly spelled out and I did miss it on the first read through. IRIS stands for IpswichRogersIntellectSystem14.087.11build5. so, AI.

also, was the Reg-Sea-Whatever lots of numbers email a reply to something? if yes, could you please copypasta the original email?

I must've missed that one as well. Where'd you figure out what Iris stood for? We'd kind of assumed we were dealing with a computer/AI - but I didn't know Iris stood for anything.

And in other news, I received a new email from Iris this evening -

The email was in reply to one I sent yesterday to Iris, a few things were changed like the Subject, as well as part of my original message was missing:

Force manual reboot - reload only necessary operating instructions/services/procedures. Disable all other non-essential programs.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but it's definitely new information. It looks to be part of a log/journal(?) someone was keeping. At first with the reference to the constant sun, I thought it was referring to the far north (Alaska), where they have 6months of constant sun, and 6months of constant dark (or something like that). But I'm not aware of anything South where the constantly shines.. anyone else?

New picture...looks like server stacks, further reinforcing the AI idea.

I sent an email to irisSPLATsunshinemine15.com and got this in reply:

Doesn't sound like a typical auto-response. That's the address that you guys are using to communicate with her, right? I think maybe Iris doesn't like me... Sad

It might have something to do with WHAT you said.

I think everyone should post their original messages, in case we're looking for keywords or something.

I'm going to guess we're dealing with a literal sunshine mine. as in solar energy or solar something else in space. aand if Iris's every communication comes from her own database, which I'm also guessing is the case, then Valentina might be someone from there (the same someone with the journal, maybe?).

Well, the text in my message was
ironnikki wrote:
I hear that you're calling for help. What can we do to help you?"
The subject line was "Help". Unless somebody gets something else after Alex and I got our responses, I would think that this means that Iris is down. Although it is definitely worth noting that I received this reply less than 5 minutes after I sent the email. In light of that, it probably was an autoresponse, but probably not a mail delivery failure one.

I had considered the same thing, but what put me off of it, has been the reference to the real Sunshine Mine in Idaho. Of course, that might not have any relevance here - except to share names.

The more I think on it though, the more it makes sense. As I've kinda got the feeling so far this has an "eco" bent to it. "...World lays in waste due to mankind's destructive nature, now reduced to having to "harvest" energy from the sun for a power source..." /shrug.

Okay, so I decided to try Iris myself, since I haven't sent her anything yet. See if I would get a different response...

... which I sorta did.

The autoBOUNCE from Iris came about fifteen minutes after I had sent it, but then I got an email from this "Shanna Bell"... apparently Iris had forwarded my email?

Okay, I get it now... the email that was sent to this Shanna person was supposed to look like it never went through a third party (even though it did).

Anyway, continued emails with Shanna:

I sent wrote:

Funny, I think I sent this email to an Iris. Did she forward it to you?

she replied wrote:
No, this came directly to my email. Wait this is Chris isn't it! UR funny!

So uh... should I just play along? :B

Huh... that's rather odd...

Yeah, I guess just kinda keep going with that. I mean, it wouldn't make much sense for Iris to just spew whatever we send her to random addresses, right?
