I fully support the avant-garde. I'll never rag on anybody for trying to push the envelope. What I think we've learned here is an age-old lesson about games that modern game designers call the "difficulty curve". If you're going to have a puzzle like a painting hiding in a real-world hotel room, IMHO you should do a couple of things: first, hint slowly and methodically at the nature of the puzzle. Second, start out really simple. Start out with some really, really easy clues that require travelling into the real world, to get us used to the idea. IRIS could have sent a message like an exact street address, along with specific instructions as to what we'd find there. Something unequivocal and obvious, just to get us on board. The "tutorial level", if you will.

I posted something similar in the Hatshoe thread; the problems with the games were/are similar in that the difficulty didn't curve, it fell right off a cliff, leading only to frustration on the part of the players and (likely even more so) the PMs.

That said, I always admire people that shoot for the moon and miss; I really am looking forward to Mr. Bricker (whoever he is) continuing this game, it has a lot of potential.

Some Meta and Some IG

A day or so ago I noticed a tweet or twit or whatever the hell you call them from one Mr. Brian Bricker. It only had a link to a twitpic. I went back and both the Tweet and the image were no longer there. My phone saved the image witch I have attached below. Also in the blog The name of the concierge from Hotel Za Za was crossed out with the message "never mind he has moved on"

Also BB has changed his blog...

http://brianbricker.blogspot.com/

[/META]
After seeing the image and the first change in the blog I decide to contact the writer. (Sounds familiar doesn't it?)

My name is Mike Schwinn. I am associated with a Mr Craig Rogers and his daughter Shanna. I am afraid something has happened to them. I believe the answer lies in Craig's computer project (IRIS). He locked his computer with an access code and it will not reboot without it. I know this might be a long shot, but his daughter was a fan of your work. Has he contacted you or left any information with you? Any information at all might help.
Thank you

Mr. Schwinn,

Craig Rogers and his sweet daughter approached me at a book signing a number of months back. I found him to be fascinating and we spoke at length about technology and the psychology of horror. He provided me with a number written on a 3x5 card and said that at some point in the next 12 months somebody would contact me for the number and that both he and Shanna's lives depended on me providing it. As you can imagine, I encounter people of all sorts as I travel but something about that man struck me as genuine and serious. I have kept that card until today, apparently just for you Mike. The number on the card is: 67944666411263. I hope that they are safe.

/sigh...you know, having read much of I'm Sorry, there was a small part of me that kept whispering "maybe Bricker's just ****ing with us"...I almost said something, but I still hadn't decided if I liked the idea that I might be being "Bricked"...

Just for kicks, I sent that along to IRIS. Even though the game's over for now, I want to see if something happens.

Before coming to the forums tonight, I stopped by the webpage and was surprised to find it still up. So I checked the source expecting to find game over or tryback in 6 months but nothing. I thought that was odd but...

Great picture, really makes its point.

So since I said it I guess I am ready to jump, just waiting to hear how high.

However I did get bounce on my email to Iris

My email to IRis bounced, too.

To quote my husband (upon hearing of the photo that had replaced the Bricker blog post): "What's that, Bricker? You want us to beat you with a bat?" Laughing

It would sure be nice to know whether this was actually over or not (i.e., it would be great if IRis didn't bouce)...haha...

I stand 100% behind all previous comments, too. Smile

Sunshinemine.com is now blank with Bill wither's "Aint No Sunshine"

Quote:
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
It's not warm when she's away.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long anytime she goes away.

Wonder this time where she's gone,
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away.

And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know

Hey, I ought to leave the young thing alone,
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone, only darkness everyday.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone,
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away.

Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.

This plus the blog entry plus the fact that sunshinemine15.com has faded to black leads me inexorably to the obvious conclusion that iris is "gone" and the game is over for now...

Cheers

That, or putting in the authorization moved the game to some "next phase"...or crashed IRis...or.... agghhh...

I can't say that I'm not confused, but the fact that Bricker put up a clue bat (in more than one sense) after his announcement that the game was over makes me think that we're back.

Or, perhaps "Ron" is trying to screw with Bricker again, haha...
