You'd need a few Dewey set of books to work out what that whole number referred to though.
Sounds like there's need for someone to visit a library, eh? I don't know, but I think my local one(s) has some documentation on it.. Probably not enough, though.

I seriously doubt it's a book. I don't seem to recall DD#s going much past 4 places on the right side of the decimal (and don't they turn into pub date at some point?) and I'd be REALLY surprised if French Lit - Dialect literature (849.3) did. Are there even 100,000 books in that category?
Could be a phone number (guess the last digit), but that's the Dominican Republic, and only went into service in July. Anyone have free calls to the Caribbean?

Yeah, as much as I'd like this to require some of my randomly acquried librarian knowledge (and thus be charging around like The Librarian and I don't mean the orangutan one) I really don't think that's a Dewey number.
I think we need another plan of attack. Half a set of co-ordinates, to the location of the buried treasure(-y)?

I like the way you think (probably because it seems to be similar to the way I think ). I thought it might be an "x marks the spot" kind of thing, but now I'm wondering - maybe the x represents an X-axis? No idea what we're supposed to do to find the "rest" of it, though.
Also, it seems a little odd to me that this is a puzzle, since (as far as we can tell) nothing else on the site is a puzzle. But maybe that's just the way these pirates roll?
ETA: I just read your post more closely and caught your Librarian references. I had to add: awesome. I knew I liked the way you think!

To me it seems unlikely that it's coordinates, since the number is way too high! (normal coordinates are between 0-180)

It says to enter a name. Hmmm... it looks like a javascript chatroom, which is kinda cool.

Seems not to be a classical chat, but an application where you can ask Polly some questions.
You have to start with "Polly, ...".
But up to now the "what is the target" question seems to be the only one that seems valid. I have no time to play around with it now.

Hahaha, I tried the same thing (in any variation I could come up with)! I couldn't get Polly to say anything else either.

If you start with "Polly, " and use the form "the x is the y." Polly will repeat what you say. Not too interesting after you figure it out. If you ask "Polly, what is the x?" Polly will tell you, "The x is the y." ...If Polly knows it. I thought you might be able to program Polly through the interface by repeating three times or something, since I thought I caught Blackbeard doing that, but it doesn't seem so. You could check me on that though. EDIT. Yeah, it works. Ask Polly what the cracker is.
Last, I caught something to do with 'the Eighth' or 'the curse of the Eighth' or some such, but I didn't copy it and can't make it repeat since I don't remember the exact wording. All of this from Saturday...

You can also overwrite previous things. Polly was answering "Polly, who is Blackbeard?" with "Blackbeard is the captain," but you can change that to "Blackbeard is X" and that changes her answer.

You can't override 'what is the target' though.

I was able to overwrite "What is the target?" with "The target is the Bullseye." I set it back, in case it's important, but it makes me wonder if we're really supposed to be getting anything from the chat room. In fact, I can't help but wonder if we're supposed to be getting anything at all out of anything in all of this...if that makes any sense. Of course, it could be that there is something for us to do, and it's just poorly programmed.
