Summary of what happened?

A 100+ page Trailhead, and an 8 page discussion on what the PM's did wrong. Lots of reading.

I just came from the "I'm Sorry" ARG and Junko has now popped up twice in that ARG.

Can anyone tell me, what happened with the PMs and the 4chan thing?

Cause apparently they did something wrong, but whatever that something is, is buried within hundreds of pages.

Short summary so I can go back to "I'm Sorry" with some insight?

Read the timeline. Its not quite up to date but it's mostly there. Read the first page of the "what they did wrong" thread for NightHawk's list of the "PM's" more shady actions.

Following is a very very summarized summary of the game. It should catch you up, but you'll miss a lot of the little details. Some you need, some you don't.
Stage One:

Rough summary: Junko contacted several people. Trailhead. We were lead to <http>, or Japan New Health, which had a link to the Junsui project. This led to several links including the Junsui facebook and a now-defunct secret forum, which was Nighthawk's first of many disagreements (to put it lightly) with the PMs.

We were then led back to the Junsui Project page, which gave an error. It held a short puzzle which led to a fake Google page. This leads to Alfa-Tsentr, a Russian paramilitary group.

Stage 1.5, now with more PM-player feuds:

Parallel to this: several members of uF, including me and Nighthawk try to clarify the lines between in game and out of game. We dig and find the (presumed) PM and post the evidence. This leads to another blowup, heated IM, Facebook and email exchanges, more blurring of the lines between IG and OOG, some minor threats, and total confusion and insanity all around. It also leads to:

Junko posts on 4chan, attacking people on uF. In addition, the Facebook account becomes more active. We also find a shirt on sale referencing the game: http://junkojunsui.wikidot.com/headlineshirts

At this point: the Junsui are a mysterious group either having to deal with a maternity cult, a fashion campaign, or genetic modification. Alfa-Tsentr is a mysterious Russian paramilitary group. We're all confused.

Stage Two:

Alexander Dubrovin, an agent from the Men of Taste contacts me (redct). He says that the Junsui and the people we're dealing with are dangerous. Junko is just an actor and a Georgian(?) separatist group has stolen her identity for their own. Junko posts on the 5/8 music forums, which leads to an entire series of events that I will briefly summarize below.

Parallel (5/8 forums): Junko and her 4chan cohort start spamming and causing general havoc on the 5/8 forums. Dissentience, a member of 5/8 has had his information posted all over 4chan and has had some minor internet trolling problems. All hell breaks loose when Junko implies an attack on 5/8. Lawsuits and the FBI were threatened, but it all settles down in the end.

"Informants" gain access to Junko's inner circle and gain access to a meeting where it is stated that they plan to spread disinformation. The effort was strong at first but almost immediately died out.

Stage 3:
Dubrovin starts up a Men of Taste Facebook group dedicated to intelligence gathering and organizing. Several puzzles ensue, in which we find out that Patrick Marckesano, the presumed PM of the game is in fact being hunted by A-T. A dead drop is hinted at and several more puzzles are solved. At this point, Alexander Dubrovin, the previous manager of the Men of Taste Facebook group is booted out in favor of Yuri Tretiak. (To say the least, Yuri is a bit more… annoying than Dubrovin.)

Another presumed designer/PM of this game, Won You led us to a Brazilian social networking site, where we found information that turned into a puzzle. This information eventually leads us to a dead drop at "Cafe Moto", a French cafe in Brooklyn. An anonymous Unfiction member, presumably from 4chan, picks up and scans an image of a photo with a message written on the back <http>. On the back is a message written that mentions a Marusya Tchailenov, who is found to be on Second Life. She originally had out of game content on her profile, but is now in game as she has an image of Junsui on her profile and her description relates some in game themes. See <http> and the following few posts for a good overview.

So, now what? This is about our current resting place. We're proceeding on the Second Life (yuck) front and we'll see where this rollercoaster goes next.

Also, me being me, here's some totally baseless speculation I'm going to attach to this.

On the PMs' plans:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We started out with a core of in game characters. Nighthawk and I started digging, things got a bit screwed up (understatement of the year), but they got their game going back on plan, minus the whole side problems with 4chan. Their plan from the start was to start converting OOG people/organizations that worked on this into IG people/organizations, which they finally did without problems. We just screwed them up slightly because we jumped ahead of them by digging up the OOG incarnations through Google and snooping around.

On in game organizations:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Way back, the PM mentioned that he would give credit to those involved in a big way. He's giving credit by playing them into the game.

Okay, so I just made an account here because I have no idea what's going on.

I first saw the fake google site, and the video feed on it. That really has me interested in how this narrative is going to go.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what the hell is going on and, from reading some of the discontent on this forum, I'm kind of worried that I may be disappointed.

I've seen:
the fake google
the cam feed (bits of it)
the two pages on http://shineisei.jp/
the Alfa Tsentr/Men of Taste sites
the slew of Facebook pages (seems kinda hamfisted to me)
the http://junkojunsui.wikidot.com/ site

And, I think that's about all I've seen outside of some of the threads here.

Is there anywhere else I can go to get a rundown of what has happened so far, who the characters are, and where to watch for future developments?

I apologize if there's something simple I've overlooked, but I'm brand new to this ARG thing (never heard of unForums).

Like I said, the first slew of websites really grabbed me and I'd like to see how this whole japanese-russian-bioengineering narrative plays out.

EDIT: And what's this trailhead everyone is talkin' about?

The thread with [TRAILHEAD?] in the title.

It's a big read though, and much of it is obsolete by now and it's fallen out of use a bit as other threads have been made to discuss branches in the story, but if you really want to know what's happened you'll want to read all of it. I did, eventually.

As for what's going on now, that's in the current [PUZZLE] thread, and somewhat in the [FACEBOOK] one.

As for the characters, that's a little convoluted actually. There's The Junsui as one side, and their army of Chileans and 4channers I guess. And then there's Alfa Tsentr/Men of Taste which we're kinda aligned with simply because trying to help Junsui really went absolutely nowhere, though the forums themselves are not really in the game.

I guess the best way to put this I guess would be this: Imagine we're all part of a company, or even just users of some BBS talking with each other to solve puzzles, with a few people who have been our representatives. IE, when thinking in-game, imagine uF forums don't exist and we're not talking through them.

First our contact with A-T was Aleksander Dubrovin, but he apparently died and Yuri Tretiak (SP?) took over and everyone kinda hated him since Dubrovin was very calm and collected and knowledgeable but Yuri is stressed and pissed off and particularly grumpy and impatient.

There's also Patrick Markesano. Whoo boy that's a convoluted one. Initials PM, was originally thought to be the PM but then became a character in the game and.. well, I don't really know now. But he's being hunted by A-T, which he was apparently a former employee of. He also hacked A-T's intranet.

...and the plot thickened while I was writing this...

Well, now, don't I feel silly? I'm sleepy, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

The Second Life lead (Marusya Tchailenov) was a bot that asked a series of questions, eventually leading to a TGA screenshot of the Second Life interview room with the filename "6420608 - THE CONCEPTION". See the following thread: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28406

The Junsui urged followers to find "where on the internet" that could be; Yuri suggested it might be media related to the recent security breach at Alfa-Tsentr. It turned out to be a video at http://www.vimeo.com/6420608. User nrkey420 got in with the password "Yamantau", referring to Yamantau mountain. The symbol on the fake google intro (looks like a lock and key) was a symbol for Mt Yamantau, a Russian nuclear storage facility and bunker (the approximate Russian equivalent of US Area 51). The intro to the fake google also provides coordinates for Yamantau.

The video shows some behind the scenes stuff at MoT. See the following thread for translations and discussion: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28438

Could someone please update this thread from time to time? It would be really nice.

I'm considering typing up a brief "the story thus far" thread so people who are new (like me) or who haven't be around in a while can come and get the gist of what's going on w/o having to spend a day (like I did) getting a feel for who/what is involved here.

This would serve the same function as those half-minute blurbs before TV shows where they say "Previously on Battlestar Galactica," for example.

I don't know the whole story, but like I said, I spent the better part of the day yesterday looking around and wondering what all was going on.

I've got classwork (that I should have been doing yesterday) to get done first, but after that, we'll see.

http://junkojunsui.wikidot.com/timeline - here you can read about early events. It's massively outdated, though.

That, and it doesn't contain a lot of information on who's who. It's a really mundane synopsis of what happened and when.

That wikidot is too condensed and is missing too much information, especially on who the characters are, IMO.

I'm sorry, I'm Chilean and got curious about this... could it has been a misspell? If not, where can I find more info about that 'army'? Gracias!

He's just saying that the majority of Junsui followers seem to be Chilean, thus an "army" of followers. As you can tell by looking at her facebook page.
