exoriare.com

Anyone get anywhere beyond the second page of http://exoriare.com?
The .js file has a bit of binary that I can't make heads or tails of. Apparently the password to get to page 3 is 16 characters long?

to get to page 2
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the symbols are the alphabet A at top left going top to bottom then left to right, spell out "QUO" to proceed

Perhaps we'll just have to wait for the 'sightings'-counter to reach the activation treshold? Confused Although that's going to last a LÓNG time... Sad

Location: Where the cheese is free.

The flashing Morse code on the left is also "QUO".

EDIT: That was page 1. But you were already on the sightings page.

Is everyone else getting coordinates in a residential street in Walnut Creek, California.
Or is this site guessing IP location to generate those.

Assuming the count increments by one second for each sighting, I show a little over 25 hours to go on the Activation Threshold.

The coordinates on my screen are in the Netherlands (where I live), so they are IP-based.

The sightings-counter goes up even when you are not online (as long, I guess, as you have cookies enabled), so it might be enough to return to the site a day or so later.

Just to give you a little heads up, Exoriare is a game that is in the works and if this is an ARG/puzzle, I doubt it will be a very big one. Some of the keywords on the website: "exoriare, teaser, games, game development, game developer, computer games"

I've done a thorough file check on everything available and there are two places where you must stop and wait for a timer or hits.

http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/exoriare/

In the /-/ folder is a bunch of random puzzle stuff I have gone through and the /exoriare.com/ folder contains all of the files on the website so far that are accessible.

You start off with the first page / index which is a minor puzzle.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The password is QUO and you can determine that by either the image on the left which is morse code for QUO or you can determine it from the QUO which is highlighted above the box in the word QUODAM.

After that page you come to a map of the world which has a bunch of dots of the peoples locations who have been visiting the website. Your location is based on your IP which is set in an XML script and then it sets a cookie - http://exoriare.com/scripts/exoriare/page2.php?query=location&firstlogin=true

On this page you are stopped by this script - http://exoriare.com/scripts/exoriare/page2.php?query=total . It is counting the amount of hits until it sets complete. Although the number probably has significant meaning, I am not sure what it is.

There is some speculation that 122112 is 12/21/2012, December 12, 2012 which is known as a couple different things such as "the end of time" or "a dawn of a new age" because it is the end of the mayan calendar.

Some more information here or here or you can just google 12/21/12

Once the timer is up a button should appear on the right which will take you to the next part. There is no "puzzle" to this part, it's just a "YUO GIEV HITS"; they're barking for more advertisement before they give out their teaser.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This will open up a link to the next page and set off a countdown (which has already been set off! ewps ~_~)

If you want to skip this part you can follow the spoiler.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Put this in your URL bar: javascript:g_pageSwap.setActivePage( 2 );

Now you come to a radar which has a bunch of cool stuff on it. Although you are stopped again by the timer at the top which is from http://exoriare.com/scripts/exoriare/page3.php?query=total and you will see:

<startDistance>100000000</startDistance>
<curDistance>91476120</curDistance>
<timeLeft>187709</timeLeft>

187709 (seconds) / 60 = 3128 (minutes) / 60 = 52 (hours)

There are still some neat things on this page though.

---------

On the radar there is a blip.gif which location is determined based on this script http://exoriare.com/scripts/exoriare/page3.php?query=total . The formula being 100 - (100 * (g_curDist / g_startDist)); which returns a number which is used as a percentage. Once the time is up the blip.gif will be at the center and will reveal the next part - the "final puzzle". You can get to this final puzzle without that but it requires a code returned from the page3.php which is not up yet.

---------

The bottom right transmission gif leads you to http://www.exoriare.com/o93j7tjh.html which on the left reads Leonid Position. The image is broken into two parts, I believe, because they both equal 410x410 which creates an image like http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/exoriare/-/both.jpg .

Also if you look at the original image on the left map you can see two little white dots at the top and the bottom which match up perfectly with the vertical grid line assuming you cut 410x410 to the right of the map if you start exactly at the the horizontal grid line (skip the black spacing inbetween the two). If you do this, you get the right text perfectly at the top right of the map and you have an even 410x410 image with the map, grid lines, and text at the top right.

You can see the seperated and put together images here - http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/exoriare/-/leonid_position.html . I'm not sure what the right text means it comes up as gibberish in their font

The left text:

L
E
O
N
I
D

P
O
S
I
T
I
O
N

The right text:

B D
H F

F B
J H
J J
J E
H F
G E

My speculation at this point would be based on the Leonid portion and the fact that this is a grid map and there is "position" involved. The first thing that comes to mind is that Leonid is a type of meteor shower. So maybe it is possible that we are being given a position for where the Leonid is going to happen on December 21, 2012 and wipe us all out, thus starting a new era of Dinosaurs.

I could live with a Dinosaur game.

---------

On the top left there is a really random and seemingly useful http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/exoriare/exoriare.com/images/radar_03.gif which is actually a set of text looped in a gif. It is 4 frames per set of text which I broke up the frames in this folder - http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/exoriare/-/radar_03/ . Here is all of them blown up and inverted easier to read - http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/exoriare/-/radar03set.jpg .

It ends up reading:

A A I J
D D
A A D A
A A G B
A A I C
A C A I

---------

On the top right if you click on the image that repeats 00 to 09 you get two input boxes that will let you input two codes. Both boxes have a character limit set to 9 but you cannot do anything with these until the timer is up.

---------

On the middle right there is a dots.gif image which by itself is nothing - http://www.exoriare.com/images/dot.gif - but the javascript is setup to make it blink so you can determine morse code that way or read the javascript and figure it out.

[binary removed] you can view it here: http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/exoriare/-/morse_code.txt

Translates to EXORIARE ALIQUIS NOSTRISEX OSSIBUS ULTOR +

Which is latin for "May someone arise from my bones as an avenger"

This is a quote which comes from an extremely old writing called The Aeneid which you can find more information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeneid.

After the count down

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The final image is determined by another password page which is 16 characters and uses the alphabet. You can display this page by putting this javascript in your URL bar: javascript:showElem( g_passwordElem );

Which goes to http://exoriare.com/scripts/exoriare/page3.php?answer=asdf and if it returns true, it'll have an image path and image file name in the xml as well. Don't even bother bruteforcing because that's lame and 16^26 would take more then 50~ hours to complete.

This function displays what happens when it returns true.

f ( defined( result.imagepath ) && defined( result.imageurl ) )
{
var image = createImageAbsolute( 250, 127, result.imagepath );
image.style.zIndex = 5;
image.style.border = "0px";
var aElem = document.createElement( "a" );
aElem.target = "_blank";
aElem.href = result.imageurl;
aElem.appendChild( image );
g_pageSwap.getPageRootElem( 2 ).appendChild( aElem );
hideFinalPuzzle();
hideElem( g_radarElem );
g_radarAnim.hideAnimation();
}

It is basically going to remove everything on the page and replace it with an image and imageurl which goes to a target="_blank" which means it can lead to more viral marketing or the new website.

WE SHALL FIND OUT IN 50 HOURS!

p.s. i'm bored :~(

Rumours abound that this is a new videogame company made up of ex-Relic developers (Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, The Outfit)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(Enter QUO to get inside, looks like it needs another 100,000 hits or so to activate whatever it's hiding).

Shacknews has info on the press snipet that was sent out.

More info at the Relic forums as well.

Press Release: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/47165

The company appears to be named Smoking Gun Games because the company website is currently blank and is registered by the same people, who were both people who worked on Company of Heroes.

Also if anyone is looking for some puzzles, look up at my spoiler post and there are two parts which I don't know if are dead ends or not, but there are some letters which I believe have more meaning.

I didn't really follow all of that scripty stuff in the spoiler above. Today I noticed that the counter has exceeded its goal, so i clicked on the hotspot in the lower right, and it took me to a new page.

http://www.exoriare.com/o93j7tjh.html

I "deciphered" the left column, using the given alphabet from the front page. I suspect that the right column is treating letters as numbers, giving us a new lat/long location, possibly related to the image.

I know, this one is pretty old, but I've just read over at boingboing.net about Douglas Rushkoff and his new ARG, based on the same domain:
http://exoriare.com/

The contents are different from that are discussed here. These are really nice written comics (I've to read it, haven't enough time right now).

What do you think?

Here is a link to the article btw.
