Reporting in from Mountain View, but without success.

It was funny: I passed two other Shell gas stations on my way to the first of four designated locations (also all Shell stations), then passed yet another Shell on my way home via a different route.

None of my four locations had payphones, but they all did have the gas pumps with the built-in TV screen. They each had a slide show running with info about the service station itself (e.g., their 5-cent discount card, the fresh brew at The Coffee Zone, etc.) and most of the screens would occasionally interrupt with video advertising, mostly for TV shows on CBS. I started to make a list, but realized that they were in a random order.

One pump's TV screen was frozen on that common Windows Error Report screen, saying that 'mmos.exe' experienced a problem, and to "Please tell <Report Destination Name> about this."

Oh, and I did try talking with some attendants. At one, I mentioned Soren Ulfert, and at the other I dropped the IHC name, but in both cases i got confused looks. Mostly I was worried that they thought I was a terrorist scoping out the station, with my little notepad and intense study of every sticker on every wall.

I think I did spend at least 15 minutes at each location, but perhaps i'll try a 5th location tomorrow and stay the whole time.

so what I am putting together now it is no PHones will be used. But at my Shell Gas station. shortly after 8am the movie trailer and the info played for about I am guessing 20 minutes non stopped. So that is what we must be looking for. Just check the tv's and wait, it might be once an hour or so for the info to show.

Roswell GA was a FAIL

Spent about an hour there, first by the phone, then inside, then noticed the TV's on the pumps and watched them for awhile. The same series of shows cycled through 3 times over about 20 minutes so I finally gave up and left. After not getting a call on the phone and the attendants not having a clue the TV's seemed the best bet, and a cool idea, but nothing about 2012 or the IHC. There was both video (commercials) and text (news and information tidbits) but I didn't see anything show in either place the 3 times I watched it all play. For those that had success, was it a video or text? I was there from about 10:45 to 11:45 so the time was fine. The company was http://www.pumptoptvlocal.com/

My hope at this point is that all of the messages today and tomorrow just point to the Los Angeles location on the 5th. We may get another location on Monday and Tuesday for the 7th.

I'm debating trying again on Sunday. I can't count on this gas station to have the correct ad tomorrow, and the other gas stations are a much further drive. Hopefully someone else on the East Coast had better luck.

Looks like it is a comic book store, similar to what the Theorist experienced...

it was a movie trailer, and a column on the left side of the screen had the info, adress, date, time and password. Try again tomorrow, just be there right at 3pm.

Hit two of the mv shells. And finally got the info and the preview! The one station was having trouble with the screens but it came up.

I wonder if there will be more than one location given- I can check again on monday and prob. tomorrow too.

how are there that many sites in minneapolis, but not a sinlge one in salt lake city?!?!?!?! I mean come on, I am one of the candidates and i dont even get a single document drop site
oh well utah gets shunned again in an arg

Here is the reason: they are using an advertising network which reaches gas station pumps only within specific regions:
http://www.pumptoptvlocal.com/themes/1.0/images/network_map.jpg

(but that map might be out of date, or they are also using a different ad network to reach Minneapolis, hmmm)

(edit to add) -- other possible providers?
http://www.gsamedia.com/markets.html
http://www.octanemediagroup.com/markets01.htm <-- covers Minneapolis but also has cities that were ignored.

Thanks, I would have noticed that so it either never played, or had only played in the early morning. Unfortunately I have other obligations at 3pm tomorrow... I'll have to play it by ear and see if I can make it before 6pm.

I'm surprised we aren't hearing more from the East Coast.

yeah- no other information. I hope that there are other locations for 10/5- I'm in Ca, but Hollywood blvd is a bit far.

Seems odd to have so many info drop points, but to only have one rally up place.

That would be because, while I live in New York, I actually live in the *other* new york. The one that stretches 500 miles away. You know, that big state that happens to have the same name as the city?

fFun fFact: Elan Lee went to school in my home town. Isn't that fFascinating?

Anyway. I hate seeing the "gosh-darnnit, nothing in my area!" posts, and I bet you do, too. So instead, something constructive: I think possibly what is happening here is we have a short message at a hundred locations, leading us to a different location, which in turn will lead to a 4th location, perhaps a 5th, a 6th ... Well, maybe. That sounds fFun Smile

you think thats bad, at you have them in your state. There is nothing in OKlahoma. as usual. Got this massive list and its only five cities. How about 50 cities with one drop each? *sigh*
I am beginning to think, i will be screwed again.

The reason you aren't hearing more from the east coast is because the system was broken this morning and we didn't get to SEE the video.
It is unfortunate, and my understanding that it is not the PM team's fault, however it did happen. After 3 1/2 hours at the gas station, a little birdie told me things were borked and they were trying their damndest to get it to work for a while, it was JUST starting to work for some of the other markets, but still not mine- so I went home, satisfied that i did the right things and it was all beyond my {or the PM team's} controll.

Do you think we'll get some cool stuff? If so, I'm sadly located nowhere near ANY of these drop points. If anyone is able to possible get some items from some of these drops and doesn't want em, PM me and I'll send that person my shipping address. I rarely get much swag, so I'm more than willing to be hooked up with some extra stuff.

P.S. If anyone has some unwanted T-Shirts or stuff from the Flynn Lives event from San Diego Comic-Con, The Dark Knight viral, or any other recent movie, book, or video game-related viral, pm me and I'll glad to have em!

I had no luck at one of the Minneapolis locations. It was at a Holiday gas station and it had the little televisions but all they showed was a series of ads for stuff in the store. However, I noticed that sometimes the screens showed other things, stuff where the picture actually moved, but it only came up when people were pumping gas. So maybe there's different ads when there's gas flowing? That's a theory. I'm going to go back tomorrow, see if there's anything then.
