Oh, yeah, ruins of a civilization...
Don't know how we'd be able to tie that in, though... especially considering that they fixed the "Delos" problem...

The names of the levels (except Portico) are these Greek islands just south of Athens. The name of this group of islands is Cyclades. However, not all levels belong in this group, and some are missing from it, and it's out of sequence. Here is how Cyclades should be:

what did he say 'Portico' meant? :)
Good work...

Well, I already read it here somewhere that it wasn't a real Greek word, so I didn't ask him about it; but he mentioned it anyway (in fact, that was the first thing he said) - it's a non-word. I didn't ask him to guess what it could mean.

A porch or walkway with a roof supported by columns, often leading to the entrance of a building

also, "portico" means porch in Italian.

It's a covered entrance way (like a porch). I think that's just part of the surface structure.

I think our version is organized alphabetically, instead of geographically. Looks like Mykonos, Naxos, and Santorini are the missing islands, and Amargos, Kithnos, Milos, Serifos, and Syros are added. So are they from a different island chain?
[edit]oh yeah, and i'm sure everyone remembers, but here it is just in case: mykonos is where the aquapolis is being built[/edit]

You know, I just googled "portico" - apparently it's a common architectural element, very present in temples, etc.; not at all sure why he didn't know it - maybe I misunderstood him???

I guess so. Well, I know the Aquapolis itself is on the island of Mykonos. I have no idea why they chose the islands they chose. The other islands - I'm not sure if they form a chain, or are just scattered in the sea... also, not sure if that's relevant...

This is funny... now I googled "cyclades", and depending on the site, I get the group defined from as little as less than 10 islands to as many as 220. Question Question

Guys, we're asking the wrong questions: there was a security/hull breach, one which the AI was supposed to pick up, chew up, and spit out while juggling three penguins, sending an SMS and making coffee (espresso, not the instant stuff).

The AI failed, and someone manually overrode the situation... so who and how?

The AI kept sending the bulkheadclose requests, as I guess it is supposed to do, but kept getting a bulkhead error on number 7. Someone manually overrode the system (which to me is reassuring, because it means the machine isn't in control just yet) but logically, the only way that could've happened was if someone went out there and shut the thing themself.

And also, fair enough a bit of corporate spin-doctoring, but for Metacortex to come out and claim the whole thing to be a success stretches the imagination: there was at least one person, probably more (supervisor, support team and the technician who ended up shutting the door) who were aware that the system didn't work.

Ooooh, the sinisternessness. Its so... sinister... Cool

It occurs to me that the delay between the disaster occurring and the reporting of the event could be the time they spent disappearing the folks involved.

Unlikely, maybe? I dunno.

greek words

key to the incident status screens:
-----------------------------------------------

Διafράγµata = Diaphragms (as in valves)

Ανοικtός = open

Κλeίste = closed

--------------------------

Κaνονικός = normal

Προeιdοpοίηsη = warning/caution

Πυρκaγιά = fire

Πληµµύρa = flood

Αpό tη γρaµµή = offline

-----------------------------

(i'm relying on browsers that support unicode to display those greek characters.)
