I just noticed that too. I tried going to the actual url of one and it said it's "private".
We may be finding hidden videos soon.
Also, WTF here's what I've been doing for the last half hour:

At first I thought I understood but perhaps I don't.
Am I looking within your pages for mentions of these things?

Mass Effect?

Urdnot Wrex and Commander Shepard are two of the main characters in the video game Mass Effect which is what led me to that reply. Haven't heard anything back yet. Cripes.

HOLY CRAP.

Got this a few min ago:

Earlier, I tried entering every possible Mass Effect related phrase I could think of...everything except simply

http://hatshoe.org/masseffect2.html

F A C E P A L M .

So that's where we're at.
My first thoughts are that the majority of the pages are journal entries about his dreams during his ascent to lucidity. That also might be where he's trapped. In a state between sleep and awake. Or just sleep. Which could also explain why he's "gone" for so long. Maybe he's trapped in sleep for weeks at a time and can only answer us during his few conscious hours.
It also makes "the watchful" super scary.
If we consider "mark" and the picture he sent a player way back, that means they may be able to do something to him in the dream world that affects him in the physical world.
Or the "group" he was a part of marked him...like some kind of cult.
I don't know.
I just know that we're getting real backstory and things are tying together.
This is fucking awesome.

The Awesomeness Continues

Thank you.

I'm guessing that many of the pages are journal entries describing dreams you had in your quest for full lucidity.
Is that where you're trapped? In a state between sleep and awake? Or are you still asleep?
Where do we go from here?

I appreciate the "Not Goya's" bit as I'm sure I would have spent hours entering the name of every etching in the 80 plate series.
There's a Dr. Who book by the same name, but there's also a fps survival horror PC game called Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason. Considering the first clue...

http://hatshoe.org/cryostasis.html

Awesome.
Just awesome.

Hmm...okay. So here's where I'm at.
After finding cryostasis, I sent an email basically asking where to go next.
I felt like that was weird, like I was just saying "more secrets, please", so I sent another email with my guess.

I wrote:
Vessel = Cryostasis
Prospector = Mass Effect 2

Proximal = Duke Nukem Forever?

In case this seems random, here was my thinking.
Since vessel and prospector were about pc games and the "instructions" are in the source code of proximal (which also says "not this one yet, both of the others though), I figured proximal was the last one and also a video game. Since there's no story, I thought of the lines literally and tried to connect them to some game. In my head it went like this:
"You are the proximal optimum" = Duke (a duke is the highest rank under king and direct successor)
"Your dominance is assured" = Nukem (drop a nuclear bomb and you pretty much win)
"Forever." = Forever.
This seems like a stretch but it was the only way I could equate the lines to a game. The "not this one yet" would have a double meaning as the game hasn't been released yet.
So this is what I got back a few hours ago.

HS wrote:
To say the same thing
In different words
Or to sing it

So that's a little vague. I don't know if he's saying I'm completely wrong. Or if it relates to proximal. Or if the answer is another pc game. Or if the answer is a synonym for both a song and saying something in different words.
The only thing I could think of is the fact that "Notes" is missing from the index. Taking notes would be saying the same thing in different words and notes are also sung, so that makes a certain amount of sense...but I have no idea what to do with it.
I sent him an email asking as much.
Anyone have any ideas?

proximal
song

i've got a hunch he's telling us 'proximal' is a song. i've been mulling it a while to (as usual) no productive result. his hat's taste is eclectic right? from 'bird is the word' to 'rio' to klaus nomi to 'rock lobster' to what else?
you are (or is it "i am") [has anyone else noticed some weird personal pronoun usage (i/we) in recent entries [particularly me2 and cryostasis]] the proximal optimum. next nearest closest best top "winner".
("you're the top, you're the coliseum" "we are the champions" "next act waiting in the wings" "even better than the real thing" "you're the next big thing") your dominance is assured ("keep on figthing" "never gonna stop") forever ("never gonna stop") blah . . . blah . . . blah

yeah, i don't recognize that song . . .

}a reading from the book of vessel{
just looking around the whole thing for useless nothing

I'm sure it's not intentional (it never seems to be) but here's "yourethebest.jpg" with b/c adjusted.

The only thing I can make out is "had passed" at the end which, after a quick glance through the pages, doesn't line up with any entry we have right now.

As far as I can tell, it isn't indentations from writing on another piece of paper on top, it's an actual image but blurred. Sneak peak, I guess.

The "yourethebest.html" solve is just too fantastic! High fives all around!

It's in yourethebest as well. I'm guessing it's referring to the group of people involved in lucid dreaming with the page sender. or the old multiple personality thing.

So, what I'm getting out of these three pages are that lucid dreaming was somehow important in recovering memories and lessons after traveling through something (the recipe?) to avoid possible dangers like the person showing up at his old residence.

The plot thickens!

dark adapted eye
you're the best (not daniella dax?)

in order to preserve night vision (in the field as a sentry or as an amateur astronomer out observing) i have had recourse to the use of red flashlights. something to do with rods and cones in the retinae. i'd guess it takes a good 20 to 30 minutes without any bright or white lights for your eyes to get 'dark adapted'. something about the wavelength of red light does not disrupt this dark adaptation. "this is the only way i can see right now" from "you're the best" in reference to the red letter screen.

does he reside in darkness? would bright light disrupt his dark adapted eye?

Moratorium
gently

In response to HS's inactivity I sent him this e-mail on the 23rd of March:

Quote:
Dear Hatshoe,

Hope all is well with you brother. From the wearerofthehat shutdown, to the 'break-up' tweet, you've got me wondering. Blink your eyes. One for yes. Two for no. Is the project hatshoe still active?

It's been quite an interesting endeavor; in many ways as we've gathered 'round recounting tales, I have felt as if I were in some way present to the opening of something new. The playing has continuously revealed more about the player than the story's character(s). Maybe you're just pacing yourself for some long scheduled plot developments or maybe the current player group are not in resonance with your current expressions --who knows. I just want to commend you on your project.

I guess this is kind of 'meta' or 'out of game' but if you want to chat about it or take a break or change it or leave it the same and wait for your schedule or players with different angles --whatever, I know at least a few of the current players who would support your moves (but still, it might be nice to know what's going on.)

Thanks. --N. (Knucklehead)

His reply of the 24th:

Quote:
Some bad things have happened
We'll adventure again soon, friend
Thank you for your kind words

Not certain whether the "bad things" were in game or out of game, I am leaning towards the most gentle of approaches, and hoping that when he sees fit he'll find some way to cue us that the time is right to adventure again.
