Hatshoe is a hoax.

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1054595&st=0&start=0

Forum moderators are deleting all the hatshoe posts and locking topics and have stated that it wouldn't be the work of a Bethesda employee.

Looks like it was just a hoax.

Hi all newcomers, welcome. Just to clear something up, the thought that this was a Bethesda employee never crossed our minds. It's, as far as we know a game. There is more to this than just Elder Scrolls. Please bear this in mind and try to read through the wiki and the pages here at unfiction to get a grasp of what's going on as we need everyone sharp if they're going to help.

I don't mean to sound rude, I just think it's best if we try to keep some order in the chaos that is hatshoe.

I had a short discussion with him via e-mail about the thread-closings:
Me:
Quote:
They aren't allowing discussion of you or your website over at the elder scrolls forums. I guess this means it was all an elaborate prank, eh?

Him:
Quote:
That is one possible perception, indeed.

Me:
Quote:
I'm just dissapointed, is all. We're all anticipating the announcement of TES V, and now our hopes have been dashed.
Any idea when Bethesda WILL announce TESV though?

Him
Quote:
Lift up your hearts.
All will come right.

I also realise that just because it has nothing to do with TESV, doesn't mean it was his intention to lead us all on. We just looked into it too much.
I'll still be following this, though. just to see where it goes.

Uh.. okay? We never thought it was a Bethesda employee or whatever, lol. It's just an ARG, not a hidden announcement for TESV.

I never thought Hatshoe had anything to do With Elder Scrolls, it just wouldn't make sense if it did. I mean, nothing that is in Hatshoe would have a place in the Elder Scrolls universe. Lined paper, scanners, ball-point pens, movies, cameras, high heel shoes, sleeping pills, gas stations, among many other things. I always thought the Elder Scrolls references are just because Hatshoe is a fan of video games, particularly RPGs. He mentions things like movies too, so I got this image of him as a fan of games, films, and the like.

Where does Bethesda come into this at all? Did people on their forums think it was a viral for The Elder Scrolls V? Just because it has nothing to do with Bethesda doesn't make it a "hoax", because none of us over here thought it had anything directly to do with TESV (well, I can't speak for all of us, but I think that was the general opinion).

I will admit "From the Bethesda Forums"'s post made my heart plummet when I saw it until I realized the mix-up... too bad we can't have them edit their post so potential new players don't misread it and miss out on Hatshoe entirely.

I think at this point we can consider Hatshoe a "mini-ARG" of some sorts. I'm confident it's not viral advertising of any sort.

And I'd like to invite everyone to the new chat room I made for us Hatshoe players...

Hatshoe Chatroom

I'll probably be lurking in it constantly so drop in whenever you like. It will probably be easier to discuss clues and hints and swap theories in chat. Bookmark it for easy finding? =P

Let me know if the link isn't working.

Um, yeah, I know. I never said you or anyone else here did. I'm talking about the me and the people at the bethesda forums. We jumped the gun.

We were suspicious for a number of reasons. Hatshoe kept on mentioning the elder scrolls and specific games in the elder scrolls (Daggerfall, Morrowind). He also mentioned Cthulhu. The developers of TES and Fallout3 are big fans of Cthulhu, and they put little allusions to him in their games. Bethesda also published the game Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

There were some other things, but all of the posts have been deleted.

pretty much.

It obviously isn't a "hoax". Hatshoe never made any attempts to deceive us. We (the TES forummers) deceived ourselves into believing what we wanted to believe.

So, I was reading through the twowithout page and the last paragraph hit me like a brick. The recipe is for a device that will free you from being stuck on a linear path through time or "rid the body of all temporal restrictions" but in the last paragraph he says that if you come back to the "that place" (i assume he means that place in time) that you won't be able to integrate with yourself. Pretty scary.

But what hit me was that I think that he actually did this experiment and found it to be true first hand and now he's stuck somewhere outside of the linear reality of time as we know it and it's up to us to help him get back.

I could be shooting completely into the dark with this one, but I have a feeling that this could be the clue we've been waiting for.

Wow

I've been spending too much time on unmoderated forums. It never occurred to me someone would be fascist enough to delete all mention of something so innocuous because it was using a few precious kilobytes of their bandwidth - let alone Bethesda, funky publishers of the Elder Scrolls. Or claim Hatshoe was obscene, when their most recent game involved blowing people's heads off in slow motion

Seriously, Bethesda. You guys used to be cool.

I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, or if it means anything, but I've noticed that some (but not all) of the most recent pages have a very subtle but quite visible mark in the upper left. Just thought I'd mention it; probably not meaningful.

Wow take a weekend off and bam Bethesda gets all in your stuff. Very Happy

Thanks for the wiki Jaeger and the chat room set up Vicarious.

First there is a new tweet:

Where did he mention that?

And then there is this food for thought...Hatshoe's comment about Jaeger being closest when just a few days ago he felt Lisa was closest. So is this his generic response or is there something Lisa and Jaeger did/have in common or has changed?

I do find it interesing that there is a similar quest and that more than one person noticed it in Elder Scrolls to the Carl thing. I wonder if the ES experts might recognize any other similar quests to the pages like in grave, unlock door, castles or any of them for that matter?

The only thing that I recall even remotely sounding like Grave (sans guns and van and that sort of thing) is the quest, Unfriendly Competition where a shop owner is greatly undercutting the rest of the merchants in his prices, and is later revealed that he was (unknowingly) buying items from a man who actually retrieved the items from graves. Eventually you have to kill the man, Agarmir, and a friend of his.

This is Agarmir: http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/4/48/OB-npc-Agarmir.jpg

Does he look like Cobain? Not really at all. :S

As for door unlock.. well, you can't chop people's heads off in the game without a mod, and I don't think there's a quest where you have someone arrested and need to kill guards, so it's probably a different game.

Also, Castles is obviously a post about Medieval II: Total War. I e-mailed him about it and he pretty much confirmed, though not in so many words.

I can't remember if this was mentioned or not, but at the bottom, on the left, of favourite things - there is a number 3

Oh, wow, nice find. I had to squint to even see that.
Could that be a reference to "the third of four"....?

Any other pages that have numbers on them? We should double-check.
