proudcockatrice @thirdrealm You have named November second as the date of the apocalypse. It is also the Day of the Dead in many places. Relevant?

thirdrealm @proudcockatrice It is relevant, indirectly, yet directly. In name and in essence,it is almost the thing.

thirdrealm When scrying it is useful to remember that there are things that upon casual examination look alike but upon closer scrutiny they are not.

I'm guessing that last one is referring to the fact that it doesn't look like the picture has changed on the front page, but I could be talking out my ass. I also haven't checked that proposition in the last hour.
For anyone who's following me on Twitter, all my ARG stuff's been moved to proudcockatrice. I was weirding out my RL friends on penbrydd.

So did the candle led us to something?
And what has changed? maybe I am blind, but I do not see a difference?

We haven't done anything with the candle yet, and I don't think anything has changed since he got rid of the bowls on the front page.
I think we need to figure out what's going on with that mac file. There's some gibberish if you convert it to a text file, along with what appears to be a marker saying the file or zip archive is tagged with the "com.apple.quarantine" extension, but I don't know if removing that will do anything. I'd try, but I don't have access to a Leopard running mac.
Also, do we know of any destegging programs that can be used on .gifs?

Still trying to figure out what's changed. Somebody with more kung-fu than me want to try destegging that image, and seeing if it's got anything? I'm going to check the old sound against the new sound, visually, and see if it turns anything up.
[=EDIT=] D'oh. Ninja'd.
[=EDIT 2=] Checked out the sounds. They're identical. Proof attached.

Now the picture of the front page links also to a King+in+Yellow.gif.zip file. This time it contains King+in+Yellow2.gif which is not a gif similar like the file we found before. Even though it has the same size it seems like it is slightly different.
Edit: I attach both (don't be disappointed to see nothing. Just right click and save as...)
Edit2: right clicking does not work so I renamed them into .txt

I'm not sure were you're finding that yellow2.gif. I've downloaded both zip files again, and they look like they have the same files to me.

if you click on the image on the frontpage (not on the book page) than you get this zip.
Seems like they are png files. Even though ACDsee fails in opening them IfranView does open them. Both show the king in yellow. Since the file(s) are much bigger there should be something else hidden there.

Fascinating. You have identified something that will read those images as PNGs? I tried them as PNG, and didn't find a damn thing that would open either one. Am thinking the PM was unaware of this problem...

Not necessarily png files. IfranView also opens the file with the .gif extension. It says: Compression: Other
And it takes some time to load it. Strange.
Nevertheless both files are slightly difference on the Hex dump.
EDIT: Some information from Twitter (oldest post on the bottom)

thirdrealm @AUZ505 Yes
AUZ505 @thirdrealm will the candle lead us to something or somewhere?

Sorry wrong. Both - the frontpage and the book - now link to the bigger zip file with the strange gif inside.
And the slightly different one could be found here (just in case some people missed this): http://thirdrealm.org/img/

I have just had the single most horrifying idea. I need to figure out how to run a diff in hex. 1. it tells us the difference between the big files, and 2, we can use it to filter out the image data, by comparing it to the smaller file.
Yes, I'm out of my goddamn mind. Thank you for noticing. I'm not even completely certain this is possible.
