I can't imagine that someone would spend $65K and go through all of this just for a resume blurb.

...as an investment for future business? I would if I had that money to burn if it netted me more money in terms of real customers in the future.

Considering what most companies spend on traditional advertising, that's pretty cheap considering the reach they attained. Of course, even though they reached millions they won't retain as much as traditional advertising, but marketing people don't like to talk about that... Wink

For what it's worth, this came from Basil Valentine:

Quote:
Subject: Amusing.

It is intriguing that despite a month of inactivity by both sides of the conflict, freelance operatives for Men of Taste are still around and have not disbanded, arguing about the finer irrelevant details of what and how things should be. It is even more hilarious that one rather frumpy Mr F*** (edited) has yet to put his time into more creative personal endeavors, or at least more time to the service of breaking the Junsui.

It is true that people's suspense can only be kept so long before they give out hope, but at this point I can assure you after we are done with PM much more will be revealed.

.
As I said in the FB, is not much about if this is gonna keep on or not, for sure I'll keep in tune to know what happens, but the little care shown for this ARG, even with the high amount of money spent, frustrates me. I know now that if this get interesting is just out of commercial objective, not that the PM feels a connection with the game.

Yeah, I know, naive, everybody guessed it was commercial, but... *shrugs*

I'm off to play World of Goo or Machinarium.

The message from Basil Valentine is still intriguing all the same. At least it's a little something to show that there's some activity.

alfa-tsentr.ru expired.
I think this is pretty obvious, the PM is not planning on continuing the ARG.

Well, I've followed that game since September, and I saw some YouTube vídeos about the Junko Junsui, the Wiki about Junko, the Twitter, the Facebook of The Junsui, even the Shirts page! And this page too!
And I saw that (this thread) the day that this thread is made.
Sorry for my English, I'm Spanish. Wink

shineisei.jp expires 12/31. Most of the other domains seem to be set to expire in June, which makes sense since they were created this year.

I'm going to assume that MoT, since it has been proven to be a real company in the past, will continued to be renewed as such and not part of this game.

I have to shave the cheese before I get to the good part.

Arguably: * SPOILERS *

Patrick has once again updated his LinkedIn and added the project to his portfolio:

http://homeostatic.net/portfolio/

Quote:
Synopsis:

Part of the "teaser" for the online interactive drama, She Stirs, this fictional advertising campaign by a Japanese biotech company gets hijacked while the viewer is half way through. This sets the stage for a much larger mystery wherein the line between fiction and reality gets increasingly blurred. Within the first month of its launch, over 1 million visitors discovered this site and its embedded clues…

Further down the page he mentions "Fake Google", and refers to it as part of an "ENHANCED reality game"...

Quote:
Visiting what appears to be the normal Google search page, users enter a secret search term, "alfa tsentr" which opens up a supposedly live surveillance feed of a girl being held in solitary confinement. This component of the She Stirs "teaser" drew a remarkable 5+ million views in the first four weeks after launch and inspired over 200 fan videos on Youtube. This achievement is particularly impressive when one considers that the the content was produced and hosted within a budget of only $4,000 USD.

And further down the page there is some VERY spoilerish stuff for the upcoming project...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Alfa-Tsentr Martydom

Synopsis:

The Alfa-Tsentr Martyrdom is a piece done for the upcoming interactive drama, She Stirs. The concept was to create a generative flash animation where an onscreen character moves and reacts in real-time, according to how the user manipulates a surveillance camera. For the shoot, I envisioned a three camera system whereby action would be shot simultaneously from three different cameras: (1) A wide angle lens SLR from a top corner; (2) a telephoto lens SLR from the rear; and (3) and an HD video camera from multiple angles. The result is a non linear vignette that animates and renders similar to a 3-D video game.

That last one actually sounds rather cool.
