[TRAILHEAD/VIRAL] You Are The Experiment

I'm sorry if this is already a topic but I got a link to this from the "The Box" movie site http://youaretheexperiment.com/ as well there is a pictureof a x-rayed foot on the box website as well. Just wanted to know if you could get anything from this.

/edit: moved to proper thread. -ndemeter

/edit2: and unmerged back to its own topic to avoid confusion. Game on! -ndemeter

I hate to be a bother but I was posting is actually connected to a real movie coming out called "The Box" starring Cameron Diaz not about a short film some guy made I think this is completely unrelated.

Yeah, she's right. It'd be cool if it could get it's own topic. Smile ..The site looks really interesting. Can't wait to hear what others make of it.

Gotcha. It's been a matter of debate for the WITB fans since the IMDB entry so that's why I merged it.

The Box movie is an adaptation of the old Twilight Zone episode and I would tend to agree that it has nothing to do with this. I would also venture to guess that it's more viral than an ARG.

I'll unmerge to avoid confusion. Smile

The site leads to this: http://thebox-movie.warnerbros.com/media/content/hrem.pdf

as well as the z-ray foot image (like you mentioned), images of a brain activity scan and various clips/pics from the film.

I'm not seeing how the premise of the movie relates to the Mars experiments at all. Going to look into the Matheson story it was based on to see what I can find. Smile

For myself I hope the ending is not the same as the TV episode. It was not that exciting honestly and only offered the "Gotcha" endings that we were used to with the TZ/OL shows. I just don't think it would work the same in a movie.

The Wiki article says:

"Some filming took place on the Milton Academy campus, and a large indoor set was built inside a former Lucent Technologies building in North Andover to recreate a NASA laboratory. The production crew also journeyed to NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., to shoot a number of scenes for the film. Richard Kelly's father had worked at NASA Langley in the 1970s and 80s. Many background extras were reused in different scenes, and people with period correct 60s and 70s cars were encouraged to participate"

My guess is that the video footage on the http://youaretheexperiment.com/ page is of this NASA stuff w/ the extras and period cars. It probably features minimally in the movie, but they are "not wasting it" and using it for the viral/ARG.

If you look at the PDF in the 2nd link, http://thebox-movie.warnerbros.com/media/content/hrem.pdf, it looks as if it contains some "high tech" schematics. The 3rd video states, "Enclosed design schematics discovered by NASA executive personnel are not sanctioned by Mars project." Also, in the trailer, James Marsden's character is seen wearing a NASA lab coat and getting fired/laid off.

My guess is this viral/ARG is providing an "in-depth" history to the "the button." This is similar to a lot of other viral/ARG, like the Lost ones providing tons of historical information ancillary to the show.

In the PDF, is refers to a Na0H+Hcl barrier. This seems to be referring to salt water. From Wiki:

"Sodium hydroxide is completely ionic, containing sodium cations and hydroxide anions. The hydroxide anion makes sodium hydroxide a strong base which reacts with acids to form water and the corresponding salts, e.g., with hydrochloric acid, sodium chloride is formed:

NaOH + HCl --> NaCl + H2O"

Sodium chloride and hydrochloric acid yields salt and water (if I understand the chemistry correctly).

In the trailer, at 1:53, it looks like someone is falling into a bedroom along w/ a large amount of water; this could be the aforementioned water barrier. Also, the Water Coffin Triptych from the PDF can be seen in the trailer at 1:51. Both scenes are only present for a single second, so they are both hard to catch.

Just something to consider. If a person was placed in NaOH + HCl the chemical reaction would produce enough energy to burn the skin. The resulting salt water would definitely make the wounds hurt more considering the ratio of H20 to NaCl is 1:1. Maybe the water coffins are a torture device that will link inot the film.

This could also explain the Two Face-esque appearance of Frank Langella.

Also noticed:

On the website there's a voice over that says, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Which is Arthur C Clarke's 3rd Law of Prediction: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarke%27s_three_laws
