New e-mail from Darcy!

Just got this from Darcy. I'm sure you did too:

Quote:
So, I went to the British Museum like you suggested. I found the room
with the Sutton Hoo helmet in, and a load of other stuff related to
the discovery there too, like a big cauldron. But what I couldn't find
was any sort of clue as to where we should go next. There was nothing
out of the ordinary, nothing at all.

I stayed and looked around for about an hour, covered room 41 from one
end to the other completely, but still didn't find anything at all.

Eventually, I gave up and headed back to the hotel. When I got there I
logged on to my email to send you all an email to let you know what
had happened, and I got this...

We know that you have been attempting to sabotage the trail.

We know that you have the stone.

Return the Lapis Tempestas to us, and we will let Flynn go.

Do not mess with us, Miss Collingwood. We are not the sort to trifle.

Five

... I don't know what to make of it, not at all! What is a lapis
tempestas? Why do they think I have it? And who are the numerologica
corporation?! Oh Flynn, I don't know what to do... should I tell
Charlene now that he's missing? I feel completely over my head in this
whole thing.

Please, tell me what you think I should do. I'm so confused!

A quick googling on the names in the e-mail isn't bringing up much and I don't have much time to delve into it until later, but I thought I'd post here.

lapis is latin for stone. tempestas is latin for storm. we are looking for the storm stone.

however, there is nothing relating to a 'storm stone' at sutton hoo. there is however the famous 'whetstone', which some speculate is a sceptre of sorts. nothing like it has ever been found before. there are little faces carved at each end and it's capped by a bronze ring with a small deer on top.

interesting to note that this whetstone is considered one of the 3 'symbols of power' in the Sutton Hoo ship burial, and that most sceptres are kept in the Royal Crown Jewels.

here's the real interesting part; there is a norse mythological connection between the thunder god, Thor, and the 'whetstone'.whether or not this refers to the Sutton Hoo whetstone is yet to be researched; however one can't deny the connection betwee the Thunder God and his Stone. the stone of storms??

can't find anything on the numerologica corporation, and i can't find anything specific about the cauldron she refers to.

i got ancy and emailed Darcy. we'll see if it yields anything.

Quote:
Darcy,

Most likely this person and their corporation is referring to the Sutton Hoo whetstone. This artifact has been considered a sceptre of sorts and is priceless. In fact I believe it is stored with the Royal Family Jewels. I may be wrong.

Lapis Temestas is latin for "stone of storms". There is a Norse mythological connection between Thor, the thunder god, and a whetstone. Makes sense to me.

Why this person is under the impression you have it is beyond my comprehension. The fact remains, however, that they have Flynn and seem to be quite serious.

We need information. I can't find anything about the Numerologica Corporation, but that may come later. What do you think?

In the meantime we need to determine where this whetstone is and whether it's missing. Perhaps we can pick up the trail there.

Does this sound like a good plan?

There is also the 'Thor Stone', or 'Standing Stone', in Oxfordshire.

Double Agent?

Is here someone who wants to try to get in contact with this coorporation stating he wants to help, or something like this, just to get their trust? I am not the best in such things. So maybe someone else could try to play a "double agent".

Five,

I am one of many. We seek the stone and have compromised it's captor - there may be success for us where there is only failure for you.

Perhaps the sharing of information is in order.

The cauldron is a bronze cauldron with an 11.5ft hanging chain which was part of the find at Sutton Hoo. The sceptre/whetstone should have beeen in R41 of the british museum.

the whetstone incidentally is reported to be linked to the cult of Odin hence the thor connection

HI. Had taken AUZ's tip and just caught up when y'all got the *heebie jeebie* Numerologica email.

Wondering if the Lapis Tempestas might be the object represented in the "lt.jpg" and emailed Darcy mentioning that.
Exciting stuff. Cool

Not sure if it's relevant or not - but Pietersite is known as The Tempest Stone.....

tempest stone would probably be more accurate than a loose latin translation to storm stone and even looser connection to Thor.

i don't see anything that shows pietersite to be a treasured item... i also think it's a generic label; ie. there isn't "a" pietersite.

is that correct?

I took someone's advice and decided to come clean with Charlene; you
can see my post on the blog. I also had a suggestion that the Lapis
Tempestas might be the thing there was a picture of in those memory
stick files... that kind of makes sense too, don't you think?

I wonder why it's called that anyway...

I'm going to do some research of my own. Maybe Charlene will know
something about the Numerologica group...

so there's something else we're missing.

and from numerologica:

Quote:
Numerologica Five

You cannot be One. There is only one One.

Of what do you claim to be one?

We know where the stone is. You cannot possibly have compromised her; we have her under constant watch.

Tell me now what you think you know. Do not upset Numerologica. You will regret it.

Dialogue opened. I responded:

Quote:
I am one, not One, and I am one of Many.

Do you have her under constant watch? I wonder how it is you are not aware of us.

We know what the Lapis Tempestas means to us. What does it mean to you?

just rereading some of the thread. looks like we got caught up with the bus puzzle and never really found any meaning behind the paintings.

one thing is definitely obvious, especially given the meanings of the heiroglyphs; the storm/weather theme is consistent.

maybe this lapis tempestas is something used to control/predict weather.

Hey, been lurking...

Anyway, this five person seems to be pretty certain that he's got everything figured out and locked down. So, I would suggest trying to introduce doubt into his thought process. He figures that Numerologica has everything under control because they have Flynn and they think Darcy has the Stone, so they're watching her like a hawk.

I would probably say something like:

Five,

As I stated, I am one of many... From our servaillance of the operation, we have not yet been able to ascertain the actual location of the stone, but have confirmed that it is not with the target in question. She does not have possession, but can be useful in finding it. Our operatives are in a position of trust with the target. If you share information with us, we can use this to our mutual advantage to manipulate her into finding what we seek.
_____________

I'm figuring, a message like this (somewhat), could take some heat off of Darcy, get us in with Numerologica, and possibly buy us both time and information if we're lucky.

Just a thought Wink
